Jazz at Timberwolves picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 122, Jazz 115

Moneyline

PASS.

Minnesota has been hot lately, and the spread is a better play here than the (-130) moneyline. Similarly, Utah is 8-16 on the road this season, so it is not worthy of a play on the moneyline either.

Against the spread

BET TIMBERWOLVES -2.5 (-105).

Utah started off the season as 1 of the hottest teams in the league but is 4-4 ATS in its last 8. It is just 2-3 straight up over its last 5.

Minnesota is 5-2 ATS over its last 7 and has won 6 of its last 7. The Wolves are solid on both ends of the court, also ranking 6th in opponents’ FG percentage (46.3%).

With Markkanen, the Jazz’s leading scorer, questionable mixed with their struggles recently, back TIMBERWOLVES -2.5 (-105).

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 234.5 (-105).

The Jazz are 26-20 O/U this season and have gone Over in 5 of their last 6 games. They have allowed 118 or more points in 3 of their last 4 as well. Utah ranks 12th in pace, so it may want to up the tempo.

Minnesota has gone Over in 2 of its last 3 and 3 of its last 5. The Wolves rank 7th in pace, so both teams should want this to be a quick-moving game.

Considering that and recent trends, back the OVER 234.5 (-105).

Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The new-look Utah Jazz (1-0) visit the Minnesota Timberwolves (1-0) Friday. Tip-off from Target Center is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Jazz vs. Timberwolves odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Jazz come into this game after picking up a big 123-102 win in their season opener vs. the Denver Nuggets as 6.5-point underdogs Wednesday. Many people expected the Jazz to be a bottom 5 team in the Western Conference, but they are looking to prove that they can contend for the playoffs even after trading away C Rudy Gobert and G Donovan Mitchell. Gobert was traded to the Timberwolves in the offseason in a deal that returned a number of role players and four 1st-round draft picks to the Jazz.

G Collin Sexton, acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Mitchell deal, was the leading scorer for the Jazz Wednesday with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting in 21 minutes off the bench. F Lauri Markkanen, also acquired in the Mitchell deal, looked strong in that outing as well. He totaled 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists on 6-of-12 shooting in a team-high 33 mins.

The Timberwolves are looking to start their season 2-0 after acquiring the 3-time DPOY Gober. After being bounced out of the playoffs in the 1st round by Memphis last year the Timberwolves are hoping that Gobert is the piece that they have been missing. He looked very solid in his debut with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting and 16 rebounds in 34 minutes Wednesday in a 115-108 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He and all-star C Karl-Anthony Towns make a talented duo in the paint, with rising star G Anthony Edwards and former All Star G D’Angelo Russell operating as a talented backcourt. Neither Towns nor Edwards had a great game vs. the Thunder and will look to bounce back Friday.

Jazz at Timberwolves picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 104, Jazz 101

Moneyline

AVOID.

The Timberwolves should win this game with the star power they have, but I do not believe in them being this heavily favored. Especially after neither Towns nor Edwards looked good in their first game.

The Jazz surprised a lot of people with their blowout win vs. the Nuggets, and don’t be shocked when they put up a fight in this one as well. The moneyline here is far too risky for me to advise you to bet on this game for either team.

Against the spread

BET JAZZ +7.5 (-108)

This is your best bet in this one. The spread being this high here shocks me. After blowing out a Nuggets team that many see as contenders to win the Western Conference, I expected much tighter odds Friday.

The Jazz are a scrappy team with a lot of talented, young players and G Mike Conley and F Rudy Gay add some veteran expertise. A highly talented offensive backcourt with Conley and G Jordan Clarkson can score some serious points, especially with Sexton and G Malik Beasley off the bench. This is one of the deeper backcourts in all of basketball and look for them to pose some challenges for a Minnesota team with little to no perimeter defense.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 226.5 (-110)

This bet is fairly risky. With neither of these teams having much perimeter defense and with both having highly talented offensive guards, expect both teams to score in the triple digits. Both teams have solid paint defenses, but you can still expect the forwards and centers in this game to play major roles.

Tread lightly here because if the stars get rolling early for both teams I could easily see this game surpassing the Over. Look for Towns and Gobert to shine in this matchup and expect a back-and-forth matchup down the stretch.

The Over/Under here will rely heavily on if the stars are able to shine.

Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (24-25) host the Utah Jazz (30-20) Sunday at Target Center for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Jazz vs. Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Timberwolves return home after a 1-2 road trip. They are coming off back-to-back losses at Golden State (124-115 Thursday) and at Phoenix (134-124 Friday).

Utah has lost six of its past seven games – going 1-5-1 against the spread (ATS) – including four straight with the most recent being a 119-109 loss at Memphis Friday.

This will be the fourth and final regular-season meeting between the two teams. The Jazz won the first three with a 1-1-1 ATS record.

Jazz at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 121, Jazz 111

Money line

BET TIMBERWOLVES (+100) for 1.25 units because this is a terrible matchup for the Jazz with Gobert out of the lineup. Utah is 1-7 in games Gobert misses, and T-Wolves C Karl-Anthony Towns is one of the best big men in the NBA.

KAT ranks in the top 20 of PER and effective field-goal shooting (eFG%). Gobert was awesome in the first three Jazz-Timberwolves meetings this season, averaging 15.7 points and 14.3 rebounds per game with a plus-28 net rating.

Utah’s defense falls off dramatically when Gobert isn’t in the game. He grades in the 97th percentile of bigs in adjusted on/off defensive rating, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Utah allows 10 fewer points per 100 possessions when Gobert is on the floor but 5 more points per 100 possessions when backup C Hassan Whiteside is on the floor.

Gobert’s absence will allow easier access to the bucket for T-Wolves second-year SF Anthony Edwards, who’s one of the best athletes and penetrators in the Association.

Utah opponents are shooting 4.0% worse at the rim when Gobert is in the game and 2.2% better when Whiteside is in, per CTG. Edwards should have no problem scoring.

BET 1.25 units on the TIMBERWOLVES (+100).

Against the spread

PASS. I’m confident enough to just bet Minnesota SU.

Over/Under

BET OVER 226.5 (-107) for a three-fourths unit only because I like the Minnesota sides more than the total in this game.

However, the T-Wolves are second in adjusted-offensive rating in January and the Jazz are 25th in adjusted defensive rating.

Also, Utah is one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the NBA and Minnesota is 19th in defensive eFG%.

The T-Wolves play at the fourth-fastest pace in the league and the Jazz play a higher frequency of transition basketball when Gobert is off the floor.

BET OVER 226.5 (-107).

Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (11-13) welcome the Utah Jazz (16-7) Wednesday at the Target Center for an 8 p.m. ET game. Below, we look at the Jazz vs. Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Utah enters on a four-game winning streak with victories over the New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Jazz are 12-11 ATS and 12-11 O/U with the second-best net rating.

The T-Wolves are riding a three-game losing skid with defeats coming at the hands of the Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks. Minnesota is 11-13 ATS and 10-14 O/U with the 14th-best net rating.

Surprisingly, the T-Wolves beat the Jazz in all three meetings last regular season despite Utah finishing with the best overall record in the NBA. The Under cashed in all three contests.

Jazz at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 113, Utah 110

Money line

Slight “LEAN” to the TIMBERWOLVES (+225) because it’s such a chunky payout and I “like” Minnesota plus the points in this spot.

T-Wolves C Karl-Anthony Towns has played very well against Jazz C Rudy Gobert in their careers. In 20 career meetings vs. Gobert, KAT averaged 22.0 points per game on 51.8% shooting (41.9% from behind the arc) with 11.3 rebounds per game.

We’ve seen Gobert get run off the court by small-ball lineups that can space the floor. Well, Towns is an elite outside shooting big that can give Minnesota rim protection and the floor spacing to neutralize Gobert’s defensive effectiveness.

The difference in ball security between both squads gives the T-Wolves a strength-on-weakness edge.

Minnesota has the best defensive turnover rate and scores the second-most points off of turnovers per game. Whereas Utah allows the third-most points off of turnovers per game and has the fifth-worst offensive turnover rate.

Again, Minnesota plus the points is the much wiser wager, but I’ll “SPRINKLE” on the TIMBERWOLVES (+225).

Against the spread

Definitely BET TIMBERWOLVES +6.5 (-107) heavier than or instead of Minnesota’s money line because this is a Pros vs. Joe’s game in the betting market.

According to the Yahoo! Sports app, a slight majority of the wagers are on the Jazz laying the points, but roughly 70% of the cash is on the T-Wolves getting points. Typically in sports betting, it’s profitable to follow the money especially when it’s flowing in the opposite direction as the betting public.

Over/Under

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Over 219.5 (-115) because the T-Wolves should be able to score a bunch of easy buckets off of turnovers and the Jazz lead the NBA in offensive rating.

However, both teams are top-eight in defensive effective field-goal shooting and the Under has cashed in six of the past seven Jazz-Timberwolves meetings.

Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (17-44) host the Utah Jazz (44-16) Monday at Target Center. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET.  Below, we analyze the Jazz-Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Minnesota upset Utah 101-96 as a 12.5-point underdog in Utah Saturday. C Karl-Anthony Towns led the way with a 24-point, 12-rebound performance.

The T-Wolves have alternated between wins and losses over their last six games, which includes a split of a two-game set with the Sacramento Kings and a victory over the Miami Heat as 7-point underdogs.

Over the past two weeks, the Jazz are 4-3 straight up but just 2-5 against the spread with outright losses at home as double-digit favorites against the T-Wolves and Washington Wizards.

Ironically, the first-place Jazz are trying to avoid a three-game regular-season sweep by the second-to-last-place T-Wolves.

Jazz at Timberwolves: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Jazz 119, Timberwolves 114

Money line (ML)

PASS with a slight “LEAN” to the Timberwolves (+350) because the payout is so fat and I “like” Minnesota to cover the spread.

That being said, it’d be fairly shocking if this terrible T-Wolves team won all three games this season against the Jazz, who, as of Monday, would have home-court advantage throughout the postseason.

As cheesy as this sounds if there was ever a season for outlier performances it would obviously be this year.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

From New Year’s Day through April 10, the Jazz won 24 consecutive home games, but they lost two of their past four in Utah and are on a four-game ATS losing skid at home.

Apparently, the T-Wolves match up well against the Jazz. The absence of Mitchell reduces Utah’s edge on the perimeter and Minnesota has outscored the Jazz 112-76 in points in the paint over the first two meetings.

Furthermore, I always anticipated the Jazz coming back to Earth after lighting the Association up for the better part of the past three months.

Finally, Utah has a .500 ATS record when laying double digits and is 15-15 ATS on the road.

BET TIMBERWOLVES +9.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 228.5 (-110) for a quarter unit since Saturday’s game went Under the 231-point total by 34 points.

This meeting’s opening line was set at 228 and more than 90% of the money wagered is on the Under, according to Pregame.com.
