In-state running back target committed to Utah over Florida

Three-star Jaylon Glover was favored to be Florida’s second running back in its 2022 class. But he shocked the world and chose Utah Friday.

Florida, coach Dan Mullen and running backs coach Greg Knox have been insistent since the start of the 2022 recruiting cycle that they have wanted to sign two backs. The Gators will have to look elsewhere for their second running back after their target three-star Jaylon Glover committed to Utah.

Last weekend, Florida landed its first running back of the cycle in four-star Terrance Gibbs. He announced his commitment to Mullen and Co. in the hours leading up to Friday Night Lights. The coaching staff also had Glover visit that weekend to get him familiar with Gibbs. Florida was seen as the team to beat for the Lakeland, Florida product. But Thursday, many 247Sports recruiting experts changed their crystal ball prediction from the Gators to the Utes.

Florida will turn its attention to Trevor Etienne, the younger brother of Clemson legacy Travis Etienne. He took an unofficial visit to the Swamp on June 25th. After his visit, he said he liked the prestige of UF academically and had a strong relationship with Mullen and Knox. If they miss with Trevor, they’ll likely turn to the NCAA transfer portal for a second running back.

Florida impressed this coveted running back on visit last weekend

Three-star running back Jaylon Glover plans to make his commitment Aug. 6. Florida got him on campus last before he announces his decision.

Florida and running back coach Greg Knox plan to sign two tailbacks this recruiting cycle. They secured one this weekend when four-star Terrance Gibbs announced his commitment to the Gators. For their second running back, they have turned their attention to three-star Jaylon Glover. He spent the weekend visiting the Swamp before he announces his commitment on Aug. 6.

He said this visit was different from the one he took in June because he was able to get a more in-depth look at the program. Glover enjoyed the time he got to spend with Knox and head coach Dan Mullen. However, for most of the visit, the coaching staff pitched that Florida would develop him on and off the field.

“I definitely learned that they are the No. 6 public school in the nation,” Glover said, according to Swamp247. “I needed to know because I didn’t learn that before. Facilities wise, buildings wise, definitely seeing the new building was real unique because I didn’t see anything before. I heard about the prototype but never got to see it in person so that was cool.”

The Gators also emphasized and ensured Glover understood their plans to take two running backs. He said he was able to meet Gibbs and start developing a relationship with him.

Glover will make his commitment public this Friday, and Florida currently sits in a good spot to earn his pledge.

“I mean it’s Florida man,” he said. “Obviously you got a good tradition of winning. You know you’re going to be playing for a championship every year. Then academically you can’t go wrong.”

It’s hard to remember the last day where we didn’t hear some kind of news come out of Michigan State Football on the recruiting front. On Super Bowl Sunday, the Spartans offered 2022 3-star running back Jaylon Glover out of Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Florida.

Glover is a top 500 player in the 2022 class and the No. 44 ranked running back in his class by the 247Sports rankings and the No. 479 ranked player overall.

Glover already has over 20 offers so this recruitment will be a dogfight for Tucker and Co.
