Jaylen Brown has embraced a leadership role this season

Jaylen Brown has embraced his role as a leader of the Boston Celtics.

Jaylen Brown has played a key role in the Boston Celtics’ path back to the NBA Finals. The veteran forward has been leading by example all season, shunning the three-point line to consistently pressure the rim and set the tone on offense. He’s also emerged as one of the best wing defenders in the NBA and often steps up as the Celtics point of attack defender.

When addressing the media as part of his postgame news conference following Boston’s Game 4 win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday (May 27), Brown noted how Marcus Smart’s departure led to him stepping up as a leader.

“We had some guys leave so I wanted to make sure that void was filled,” Brown said. “Marcus Smart, one of my brothers that got traded, he was one of the voices of our team. And when he wasn’t here I wanted to make sure I stepped in. I wanted to make sure that everybody felt me and everybody knew what the standard was. We didn’t skip no steps all season. I think we played the right way every single game. I thought everybody (was) accountable. And this is the byproduct.”

Brown was crowned as the Eastern Conference finals MVP. He earned the award with his two-way production throughout a tough series against a young, hungry Pacers team.

Now, Brown will be looking to continue leading the Celtics as they bid to win their first title since 2008. Boston has multiple leaders this season, however, it’s clear this is Jayson Tatum and Brown’s team. Now, they need to prove their leadership style is conducive to winning at the highest level.

Why Jaylen Brown deserves the Eastern Conference finals MVP award

Few if anyone can say that they had a greater impact.

There seems to be a small subset of NBA fandom who do not get why star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown deserves the NBA’s 2024 Larry Bird Eastern Conference finals Most Valuable Player award. And some of them are Celtics fans, at that.

But even they should be able to admit that Brown had at least as good a case as anyone else on the team, and few if anyone can say that they had a greater impact. On the most recent episode of the CLNS Media “The Big 3 NBA” podcast, hosts A. Sherrod Blakely, Kwani Lewis, and Gary Washburn recapped the Celtics sweeping the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Finals.

They reflected on Brown winning the ECF MVP over Jayson Tatum, and make their guesses on how Tatum will perform in the 2024 NBA finals, and discuss the recent Stephen A. Smith comments regarding Brown. Check it out below!

Jrue Holiday on Jaylen Brown’s surprise at winning the 2024 Eastern Conference MVP award

In fact, that Brown did not see the honor coming was a positive in Holiday’s mind.

When Jaylen Brown won the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals MVP, the Georgia native was surprised. Veteran Boston Celtics teammate Jrue Holiday, however, was not at all shocked that Brown won the honor given what he has seen from the All-Star wing in this round of the postseason. In fact, that Brown did not see the honor coming was a positive in Holiday’s mind.

“I think it’s even better because he didn’t expect it,” he offered via the Athletic’s Jared Weiss. “That really means that (it) didn’t matter to him. It was about winning and whatever it took, however long it took, that’s what was important.”

“So, I think when you have that mentality and that mindset, and you see great people get rewarded for the things that they do, it just brings joy,” Holiday added.

The shift in focus compared to past playoffs for Brown has been hard to miss, with better shooting, ball control, passing, and decision-making all contributing to what coalesced into Brown’s being so honored by the league.

And it looks sustainable moving into the 2024 NBA Finals. Should it prove to be, a banner may be within Boston’s reach for the first time for more than a decade ago, save those of us who truly believe that 2022 was winnable.

Boston’s Al Horford had high praise for Jaylen Brown’s defense in Celtics Game 4 win vs. Pacers

Brown’s elite play on both ends of the court in this series earned him the third-ever Larry Bird East finals Most Valuable Player award.

Veteran Boston Celtics big man Al Horford had some high praise for star Celtics small forward Jaylen Brown‘s defense in Boston’s 105-102 Game 4 win vs. the Indiana Pacers at Gainsbridge Fieldhouse this past Monday (May 27) night.

“He’s impacting the game not only on offense but on defense, and he’s doing it at a very high level,” said Horford after the series-clinching win, courtesy of MassLive’s Souichi Terada. “We ask a lot of him. Tonight, he started out guarding (Andrew) Nembhard, then he switched up to (Pascal) Siakam, he probably was on (Myles) Turner. He was on different people all over.”

“That versatility is what makes us so tough as a team, I think, is because we have multiple guys that can do that and Jaylen does it at a very high level,” he added.

Brown’s elite play on both ends of the court in this series earned him the third-ever Larry Bird Eastern Conference finals Most Valuable Player award.

The Georgia native’s clutch offensive play as critical to this series win as his clamps were, and will be key moving forward in the 2024 NBA Finals as Boston squares off with whichever ball club emerges from the Dallas Mavericks – Minnesota Timberwolves Western Conference finals.

Jaylen Brown had a hilarious NSFW reaction to his winning Eastern Conference Finals MVP

At least Jaylen Brown is honest!

The Boston Celtics will soon play in their second NBA Finals in three seasons. But before they start even thinking about competing for a championship, it’s worth revisiting Jaylen Brown’s terrific performance in an Eastern Conference Finals sweep of the Indiana Pacers.

The small forward was named MVP of the series for averaging 29.8 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game while also shooting 51.7 percent from the field.

When asked about his immediate reaction to winning East Finals MVP, Brown was rather frank. He couldn’t believe he actually won it because he simply, well, never wins “[expletive].”

(Warning: NSFW language in the video below.)

Brown might be referring to his snub from this year’s All-NBA teams. Because even while he said he didn’t care, it clearly motivated his recent performance in the third round of the playoffs.

Well, Brown can add this series MVP to his personal trophy case for all his troubles.

LeBron James gives Jaylen Brown respect after winning Eastern Conference finals MVP

Despite the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, LeBron James paid his respects to Jaylen Brown after an excellent Eastern Conference finals performance.

This year’s Eastern Conference finals looked like at least a somewhat competitive matchup between the upstart Indiana Pacers and the favored Boston Celtics. Despite the Pacers holding late leads in three games, they ended up getting swept, with the fourth and final contest taking place on Monday.

The Celtics will head to the NBA Finals for the second time in the last three seasons. They will await the winner of the Western Conference finals, a series the Dallas Mavericks lead 3-0 over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While Los Angeles Lakers fans may hate the idea of Boston playing for the world championship, LeBron James praised Boston star wing Jaylen Brown for winning the Eastern Conference finals MVP.

While Jayson Tatum played well and averaged a team-high 30.3 points a game in this series, Brown was at 29.8 points per game and shot a higher percentage from both the field and from 3-point range. Brown poured in 40 points in Game 2, which was the only lopsided game in the series.

There’s no doubt true Lakers fans will be pulling for Dallas, assuming Dallas advances, when the championship series starts next Thursday.

Jaylen Brown calls out ESPN anchor following controversial take

Jaylen Brown has clapped back at Stephen A. Smith following his controversial statement during a recent episode of ESPN’s First Take.

Jaylen Brown has challenged Stephen A. Smith to name his sources after the ESPN anchor stated that he’s been told the Boston Celtics star forward lacks marketability. Smith’s comments came during a recent episode of “First Take,” during which he shared that an anonymous source had told him Brown’s attitude had led many around the NBA to dislike him.

Smith’s comments came during a discussion regarding the All-Star forward’s omission from an All-NBA team this season. Brown has been playing at an elite level yet was not recognized by the voting panel, leading to discussion surrounding his production and personality.

“It’s not so much that he’s underrated, it’s that he’s just not liked because of his, ‘I am better than you,’ attitude,” Smith said. “He knows it. It’s the same reason he is not as marketable as he should be. That’s what an NBA source just sent me.”

Smith has since responded and refused to give up his source. The veteran anchor noted how anonymity is part of journalism and that he defended Brown live on air despite being the one to read out the message in the first place.

Brown is currently playing in the Eastern Conference finals. The Celtics hold a 3-0 lead over the Indiana Pacers.

Any perceived lack of marketability will likely go out of the window if Brown can help his team win a championship. After all, winning solves everything, and Boston has been doing a whole lot of winning this year.

Is Boston’s Jaylen Brown the most under-appreciated star in the NBA?

Has Jaylen Brown proven himself to be the Boston Celtics best player?

Jaylen Brown has been exceptional for the Boston Celtics this season. He could potentially win the Eastern Conference finals MVP. Throughout the season, Brown’s three-level scoring and elite point-of-attack defense have been a staple of the Celtics overall performance. He’s consistently come up big when needed.

Despite such impressive showings, Brown was omitted from any of the three 2024 All-NBA teams. He followed up that omission with a 40-point game against the Indiana Pacers in game two of the series, and then had a 24-point night on Saturday (May 25.) During a recent episode of ESPN’s “Get Up,” the hosts questioned whether Brown was one of the NBA’s most underappreciated stars. They discussed his production throughout the season and his importance to the Celtics’ chances of winning a title this season.

Brown has played in all 13 of Boston’s postseason games thus far. He’s averaging 24.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 62.4% from two-point range and 35.3% from the perimeter.

He is one game away from returning to the NBA Finals for the second time in three years.
