Jaylen Brown took a shot at Stephen A. Smith during the Celtics parade with a ‘State Your Source’ shirt

Jaylen Brown is feeling quite petty today

The Boston Celtics’ championship parade is today, which means it’s time for the team to take a victory lap on everyone who’d ever doubted them.

That especially applies to Jaylen Brown, who was crowned both the Eastern Conference Finals MVP and the NBA Finals MVP on the way to winning his first world championship with the Celtics. Now that he’s won and done it at the highest level possible, it’s time to flex in every way possible.

That’s exactly what he’s doing. He’s also got a particular target in mind: It’s Stephen A. Smith.

Smith was one of the Celtics’ main critics during their run this season. One of his latest points of criticism was that Jaylen Brown was “not marketable” because of his “big ego.” Smith said he’d gotten that from an NBA source. “It’s not so much that he’s underrated,” Stephen A.’s source texted him. “He’s just not liked.”

Brown’s response? “State your source,” he tweeted at Stephen A.

Fast-forward a few weeks, and there are a whole bunch of people in Boston who seem to like Brown a lot. He still wants to know who that source is, though. At least if his t-shirt is any indication he does, anyway.

What a flex, Jaylen Brown.

The Celtics tried to trade for Donovan Mitchell in 2017

How would the Boston Celtics roster have looked if they had successfully traded for Donovan Mitchell in 2017.

The Boston Celtics selected Jayson Tatum with the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The move came one year after selecting Jaylen Brown with the same pick. The duo have developed into two of the most talented forwards in the NBA, and helped guide the Celtics to a championship this season.

However, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Celtics roster almost took a different route. Shortly after acquiring Tatum in the draft, then President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge attempted to trade for Donovan Mitchell, who had been selected with the 13th pick in the same draft.

In the latest episode of “The Celtics Chronicle” podcast, the hosts discuss how different Boston’s roster would have looked and whether they would still have won a championship. Mitchell has developed into an All-Star guard, but his presence next to Brown and Tatum may have changed how each of them developed.

Jayson Tatum will make history with his upcoming contract extension

Jayson Tatum is expected to sign a historic Supermax contract during the offseason.

Jayson Tatum is eligible for a Supermax contract extension this summer. The Boston Celtics star helped the franchise snap a 16-year drought on Monday (June 17) as the Celtics won their 18th banner with a gentleman’s sweep over the Dallas Mavericks. Tatum was named to both the All-Star and All-NBA First Team for his regular season performances.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Tatum is expected to sign a contract worth approximately $315 million over five years. That deal would make Tatum the highest-paid player in NBA history while also seeing him leapfrog his teammate Jaylen Brown, who has shouldered that crown following his own Supermax extension last season.

Tatum has evolved into a complete player this season. He has become an elite playmaker, high-level rebounder and underrated help defender. His status as one of the best players in the world has been cemented. As such, it’s unlikely he will receive the same level of scrutiny that Brown has throughout the season.

Micah Shrewsberry crashes Boston Celtics’ NBA championship celebration

Now that’s a proud former assistant coach.

The Boston Celtics are the NBA champions for a record 18th time in franchise history. They accomplished the feat by knocking off the Dallas Mavericks in a five-game finals. They were the best team in the league during the season and proved it during the playoffs.

[autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] knows the Celtics’ biggest players well. He was an assistant coach under Brad Stevens when Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were drafted, and he stayed on the staff for a few years after until he went back to the college rankings. They clearly remember him as evidenced by this video of Shrewsberry celebrating with Brown and his Finals MVP trophy:

During Shrewsberry’s tenure, the Celtics never got closer than the conference finals, falling to LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers in back-to-back seasons. Obviously, things have gotten much better for everybody since then, and Notre Dame fans definitely hope Shrewsberry will get the Irish closer to their own ultimate goal soon.

Jaylen Brown named 2024 NBA Finals MVP

Jaylen Brown wins the Bill Russell Trophy after being named the 2024 NBA Finals MVP.

The Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA Finals Monday night at TD Garden, earning the franchise an NBA-best 18th title. After the game, Jaylen Brown was named the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, earning the Bill Russell Trophy in the process.

Brown averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists for the series, and was a consistent and crucial offensive weapon for Boston. He also logged 1.6 steals tonight. His defense was arguably more important for the Celtics, as was his leadership. Now the longest-tenured member of the team, he helped guide his team past a high-octane Dallas Mavericks team with relative ease. Outside of Game 4, Boston was the superior club for the entire 2024 NBA Finals, thanks in no small part to the way Brown led his team.

Eleven members of the media voted on the award, and Brown took home seven votes. Jayson Tatum was the only other player to receive a nomination.

When NBA Twitter wanted to break up the Jaylen Brown-Jayson Tatum duo: ‘They don’t complement each other well’

After seven seasons playing together in Boston, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown won their first NBA title. Both faced criticism and trade rumors throughout their journey, particularly after falling short against the Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals. However, there were always believers in their potential, such as Jalen Rose and Brian Scalabrine.

Here’s what social media said when the All-Star duo couldn’t finish the job.

Former Duke basketball star Jayson Tatum wins his first NBA title as Celtics defeat Dallas 4-1

Boston closes out the Dallas Mavericks for 18th NBA Title, giving former Duke star Jayson Tatum his first ring.

On Monday evening, a new NBA champion was crowned.

It’s from a familiar franchise, too. The Boston Celtics, led by former Duke star [autotag]Jayson Tatum[/autotag], won their 18th NBA title after dismantling [autotag]Kyrie Irving[/autotag], Luka Doncic, [autotag]Dereck Lively II[/autotag], and the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 to wrap up a 4-1 series victory in front of a packed TD Garden crowd in Boston.

The Celtics entered the night with a massive chip on their shoulder after getting wrecked by the Mavericks down in Dallas for Game 4. The Mavericks blasted the Celtics by 40 points on Friday night to keep the series alive, and the Celtics came out ready to play and end the series. The Celtics closed the first quarter of Game 5 on a 9-0 run and never looked back.

For Tatum, years of failures and media slander now become noise. He’s cemented himself in basketball history as one of the stars of a championship-winning team for one of the sport’s most prestigious franchises.

Tatum joins a small list of seven other former Duke players to win an NBA title. Jack White was the most recent in 2023 as a member of the Denver Nuggets.

The former No. 3 pick out of Duke is now an NBA champion, a four-time All-NBA selection, and a five-time All-Star. On top of his championship, he is now set for a record-setting contract extension to make him the league’s highest-paid player. And for a few weeks, he’ll rest and then prepare himself to get ready to play in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris with Team USA.

Jaylen Brown celebrated with his deservedly proud mother after he won NBA Finals MVP

It was heartwarming to see Jaylen Brown and his mom have this moment.

Every basketball player grows up dreaming of winning NBA Finals MVP, and tonight Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown was able to do exactly that.

After he was named The Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player following a the Mavericks during Game 5 on Monday, Boston’s Brown gave a speech in which he also gave credit to his teammates for his success.

The Celtics star then enjoyed a beautiful moment with his mother, Mechalle Brown. It was exactly the kind of situation so many young hoopers and their parents fantasize about when they are young and it was heartwarming to see them share that on the biggest stage:

Social media reacts to Celtics winning NBA Finals vs. Mavericks: ‘Kyrie stomped on the logo and then got stomped out’

The Boston Celtics claimed their 18th title after a commanding 106-88 victory in Game 5 against the Dallas Mavericks.

Jayson Tatum scored 31 points and dished 11 assists while Jaylen Brown added 19 points and eight rebounds. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined for 43 points as the Mavs shot 29.7 percent from three-point range.

Here’s how social media reacted to the Celtics winning the Finals for the first time since 2008 and the second time in the last 38 years.

A mic’d up Jaylen Brown joked Derrick White looked ugly with a chipped tooth during the NBA Finals

Jaylen Brown lightened the mood after this injury to Derrick White.

Boston Celtics guard Derrick White suffered an unfortunate injury during Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

White collided with the floor while diving for a loose ball and came up bloody. As it turned out, he ended up chipping his tooth on the possession. Considering that this was a closeout game in a championship, though, he still stayed in the game.

To lighten the mood, his teammate Jaylen Brown decided to make fun of White for his temporary new look. Brown joked that White “sure is ugly” because of the injury.

Fortunately, this hilarious interaction was picked up on ESPN’s broadcast.

There is nothing quite like the brotherly love between two teammates, and Brown’s light-hearted comments surely made White feel a little better after hurting his face.
