A local receiver prospect in the 2023 recruiting class returned to Tiger Town last weekend.

After participating in the Dabo Swinney Camp this past summer, Central (S.C.) D W Daniel’s Jaylen Brown-Wallce was back on campus for the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over NC State at Death Valley on Saturday, Oct. 1.

“My time at Clemson was amazing,” Brown-Wallace told The Clemson Insider in a message. “It was an overall crazy environment to be in.”

Did anything about Clemson’s game day atmosphere stand out to Brown-Wallace?

“It played a big part in what made the visit so special,” he said. “Just seeing how crazy the atmosphere can get and how great the fans are.”

During his time on campus, Brown-Wallace had a chance to catch up and communicate with Tyler Grisham. Clemson’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator has been in constant contact with the talented in-state receiver.

“I did talk to him,” Brown-Wallace said of Grisham. “He told me he’s watched my film and how he loves it and how I’m having such a great season so far. Just stuff like how good of a player I am. He told me to come back for another game. I told him I’ll be back.”

If Clemson were to pull the trigger on a scholarship offer, what would that mean for Brown-Wallace and his recruitment?

“It would mean a lot knowing that I grew up around Clemson,” he said.

While on campus, Brown-Wallace had a chance to catch up with some of his former Daniel teammates Clay Swinney, Jahiem Lawson, Trent Pearman, Jackson Crosby, Brodey Conn and Boston Miller. He said it was good to chop it up with those particular guys since they are the ones he’s closest with.

Local wideout gaining traction on recruiting trail, shows off talent at Swinney Camp

Among the standout wide receivers who had the chance to showcase their talent on the first day of Dabo Swinney on June 1 was Jaylen Brown-Wallace — a rising senior from the nearby D. W. Daniel High School.

“It was pretty good I’d say for both sessions,” Brown-Wallace told The Clemson Insider regarding his Swinney Camp experience. “I feel like I did my best, I’m not gonna lie. I feel like I tried to win every ball that I could…I tried my best not to drop any balls to show that I could catch the ball and stuff like that.”

He also had the chance to speak with Tyler Grisham after the conclusion of camp. Clemson’s wide receivers coach provided Brown-Wallace with some feedback and told him that he’d like to see him put some more weight on and be more physical.

“I talked about that with Dabo,” Brown-Wallace said regarding a potential offer from Clemson. “He basically said the same thing, that if I can put a little bit more weight on and be more physical and stuff like that because I have the athletic ability.”

That’s exactly Brown-Wallace’s plan.

And it’s not only because he wants to improve his game going forward, but he also wants it for himself and an offer from Clemson would mean just so much for him and his recruitment.

Brown-Wallace has camped at Clemson in the past, but he was a lot timider during last year’s session. This time around, he definitely felt more confident in his abilities and what he brings to the table as a talented wideout.

It also helps that Swinney Camp is right in his backyard.

At the time of our conversation with Brown-Wallace, he was still trying to find dates to visit Wake Forest, Liberty, Wofford and even North Greenville. As far as his recruitment is concerned, Brown-Wallace indicated that he’s starting to get more attention from Power Five coaches around the country.

“It’s going pretty good,” Brown-Wallace said “(Oklahoma head) Coach (Brent) Venables followed me back on Twitter on (June 1). A lot of coaches have followed me back since the beginning of April.”

Photos from day one of Dabo Swinney’s 2022 summer camp

Clemson has hosted a large number of recruits over the past week, with many participating in Dabo Swinney’s summer camp.

Clemson football has had a jamp-packed first five days of June.

Before the Tigers hosted 31 2023 recruits for official visits on Friday and Saturday, head coach Dabo Swinney had one-day sessions for his annual summer camp on Wednesday and Thursday.

Many 2023, 2024 and younger recruits were at the camp, with names like four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger and four-star offensive tackle Ben Roebuckin highlighting the group. Some current and former Clemson players were also in attendance, such as quarterback Cade Klubnik and Dabo’s son, Will, who served as a receivers coach.

Clemson’s 2023 class currently has four verbal commitments: four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina, four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph, four-star edge David Ojiegbe and three-star cornerback Branden Strozier. With the recent summer camp sessions and the official visits, Clemson has been named as a finalist by multiple 2023 four-star prospects and should be adding some more commitments over the next couple of months.

Swinney will host a three-day camp from June 10-12, but here are the best photos from day one on Wednesday.

Clemson offer would be a ‘dream’ for local standout receiver

A couple of weekends ago, Clemson played host to a local receiver prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. D. W. Daniel’s (Central, S.C.) Jaylen Brown-Wallace made his way to Tiger Town for the Orange & White Spring Game on April 9. “It was good,” …

A couple of weekends ago, Clemson played host to a local receiver prospect in the 2023 recruiting class.

D. W. Daniel’s (Central, S.C.) Jaylen Brown-Wallace made his way to Tiger Town for the Orange & White Spring Game on April 9.

“It was good,” Brown-Wallace told The Clemson Insider regarding his spring game visit. “I got to talk with Coach (Wesley) Goodwin, Coach (Tyler) Grisham and Dabo (Swinney) after the game. It was pretty cool.

What did Brown-Wallace hear from Clemson’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator?

“Coach Grisham told me that he really likes my tape and stuff like that and how he likes my size,” Brown-Wallace said. “He told me to come back in the summer for a camp and that I have a really great chance of getting an offer from them.”

What would that mean to him?

“It would be a dream,” he said regarding a potential Clemson offer, “I’m not gonna lie because growing up watching Clemson and all that if I got an offer from them, it would mean a lot.”

That caught Brown-Wallace off guard. At the same time, it’s a motivational tool for the local product that he can use when he gets to camp this summer. He’ll have an opportunity to show Clemson coaches, mainly Grisham, what he’s got in the tank.

Brown-Wallace is aiming to camp at Clemson come June 2.

After watching the team’s offense operate during the spring game, he feels like he could fit well in Grisham’s position group. Brown-Wallace is a fan of Clemson’s wide receivers coach, who he remembers talking with last summer when he previously participated at the Dabo Swinney Camp.

He only started talking with coaches like Grisham and Goodwin two-to-three weeks prior to the spring game.

“It’s very eye-opening because of all the receivers they’ve put in the league,” he said regarding Clemson’s interest in him, “and being a receiver myself and them having a high interest in me.”

Brown-Wallace said that his junior season was really great and everything he really wanted it to be. Across his junior campaign, he posted 58 receptions for 958 yards with 11 touchdowns. Because of last season’s performance, which he indicated was big for his recruitment, Brown-Wallace has talked with schools like Georgia Southern and Wake Forest, in addition to Clemson.

While he has really good film, for Brown-Wallace, it’s a matter of getting in front of coaches on the camp circuit this summer and showing what he’s capable of. Obviously, he’ll be at Clemson, and then he’ll likely camp at schools like Wake Forest, Liberty, App State and Mercer.

“I’m kind of just like the type of player that’s relentless, you know?” Brown-Wallace said when asked to describe himself as a player. “I’ll line upfront and just work as more of a jump-ball type of player is what I like to do.”
