The Philadelphia Eagles have been without running back Jordan Howard for two games now and it’s starting to look like his “stinger” could be even more serious than team officials thought.

During his Monday morning press conference, Doug Pederson indicated that Howard is working to regain strength in his injured shoulder.

Howard has still not been cleared for contact and he’s unlikely to play until that happens. Miles Sanders carried the load for the Eagles on Sunday, but Howard’s bruising, physical style has definitely been missed.

Lions quarterback Jeff Driskel, tasked with filling in for an injured for Matthew Stafford, threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-27 loss at home to the Dallas Cowboys. With Stafford ruled out for this game as well, Driskel will have another chance to impress. Detroit’s defense will need to step up in this contest after giving up 509 yards to the Cowboys last week. With Washington’s less potent offense, this is an opportunity for the Lions to get back on track offensively.

Washington also lost its last outing, dropping a game at home against the New York Jets by a score of 34-17. The team was held to just 54 yards rushing, which forced the team to put the ball in the air more than it wanted with rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins under center. Haskins completed 19 of his 35 pass attempts for 214 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. With Detroit overly capable of moving the ball through the air and on the ground, the Washington offense may need to produce at a high level to keep pace.

It’s never too late for a few extra points to add to your win column.

RB Bo Scarbrough

The round and round cycle that is the Lions running back situation since Kerryon Johnson’s injury has now landed on Bo Scarbrough. For those paying attention, we’ve went from Ty Johnson to JD McKissic and now Scarbrough. Last week against the Cowboys, Scarbrough came out of no where to muster up 14 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown. McKissic did still feature as a pass catcher, though.

RB Jay Ajayi

Jay Ajayi signed with the Eagles prior to Week 11 against the Patriots, but he didn’t play behind Miles Sanders and Boston Scott. It might be a case of him needing to warm up to the offensive scheme, but he’s certainly at least a better option than Scott with Jordan Howard still expecting to miss some time. He’s at least worth stashing for a playoff run later on.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed running back Jay Ajayi on Friday after Jordan Howard and Darren Sproles both suffered injuries.

Ajayi’s signing wasn’t expected to be for more than a week to week basis, but according to Ian Rapoport, the running back could be with the Eagles next season as well.

According to Rapoport, the structure is similar to that of a restricted free agent, and it would make it easier for the Eagles to bring back Ajayi for another season if another team shows interest in the offseason.

Ajayi could have a role with the Eagles next season if the team moves on from Darren Sproles and Corey Clement.

Sproles is on injured reserve with a torn hip flexor, and his career could be over. Jordan Howard has a shoulder injury that kept him out of Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots and will be a free agent after this season.

The final six weeks of the season are essentially an audition for Ajayi with the Eagles and other teams who’ll likely have a need for the running back position.

The Philadelphia Eagles are now 5-5 on the season after blowing a 10-point lead against the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

The Eagles defense showed up in full force and looks to be rounding into form after battering Tom Brady during a dominant first half by Philadelphia. After a late second-quarter touchdown, The Eagles scored zero points and are now a full game behind the Dallas Cowboys in the win column.

With the Seahawks coming to the Linc next Sunday, here are four takeaways from the Birds 17-10 loss to the Patriots.

1. Eagles aren’t a serious playoff contender without deep threat

Nelson Agholor had four catches for 40-yards, while Zach Ertz led the Birds with nine catches for 94 yards, deep passing yards were hard to come by. The Eagles went away from Miles Sanders after a strong first half. Even with Alshon Jeffery back, this Eagles offense works too hard to gain big chunks of yards.
