Here are 6 players from the Jets to keep an eye on in Saturday’s preseason Week 1 matchup vs. the Panthers.

The New York Jets took part in the Hall of Fame Game against the Cleveland Browns to begin their preseason schedule, losing the game 21-16. Following last week’s preseason defeat to the Browns, the Jets will take on the Carolina Panthers on Saturday in their second preseason contest.

For the second straight week, New York isn’t going to have many of its starters logging snaps versus Carolina. With Aaron Rodgers in street clothes again, Zach Wilson is drawing the start and Tim Boyle will follow the former first-round pick.

Ahead of Saturday’s exhibition matchup with the Panthers, here are six players to watch on the Jets.

4 takeaways from Jets’ Hall of Fame Game loss vs. Browns

What are some of your takeaways from the Hall of Fame Game?

The Jets opened the preseason with a 21-16 loss to the Cleveland Browns in the 2023 Hall of Fame Game. Despite the loss, there were some positives that came out of the game. Coming out of Thursday’s game, here are four takeaways from the first preseason game of the season.

Studs and duds from Jets’ 21-16 loss to Browns

Here are a couple of studs and duds on the Jets in Thursday’s 21-16 loss to the Browns in the Hall of Fame Game.

The New York Jets opened their preseason schedule against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night in the Hall of Fame Game, giving us our first taste of a live-action NFL game since the Super Bowl. New York was unable to come away with the victory as Cleveland secured the 21-16 victory.

Both teams rested a plethora of players in their preseason opener, which allowed some of the players competing for roster spots to get more opportunities. Some players performed better than others and there is still time for players that struggled on Thursday night to turn things around before roster cuts are made.

Following Thursday’s loss to the Browns, here are a couple of studs and duds from the Jets.

WR Jason Brownlee named as Jets’ player to watch in training camp

The 33rd Team mentioned undrafted rookie WR Jason Brownlee as the player to watch for the Jets in training camp.

Aaron Rodgers is going to have a loaded receiver room in his debut season with the New York Jets. While he isn’t high on the depth chart right now, The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov listed wideout Jason Brownlee as the player to watch for the Jets in training camp.

Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis are the two receivers remaining on the roster from last season. Since the start of the offseason, the Jets have notably added Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman, and Randall Cobb at the wide receiver position.

Following the 2023 NFL draft, the Jets also signed Brownlee, who is an undrafted rookie out of Southern Miss. In his three seasons at Southern Miss, Brownlee accumulated 135 receptions, 2,144 receiving yards, and 21 receiving touchdowns.

Despite attending a smaller college, Brownlee has quickly caught the eye of the coaching staff of the Jets this offseason. Brownlee recently made a spectacular one-handed grab in practice as the Jets prepare to face the Cleveland Browns in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday.

Cracking the starting offense is unlikely for Brownlee as the Jets have a talented receiver room for Rodgers to work with. But with a strong showing in training camp and the preseason, Brownlee could certainly earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

Watch: Jason Brownlee makes incredible catch at practice Tuesday

An incredible catch by Jason Brownlee

Tuesday was the last practice for the Jets before their first preseason game on Thursday, which is crazy to say. The Jets were nice enough to give us a highlight catch to wet our appetite heading into the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio against the Cleveland Browns.

Check out this incredible one-handed catch by undrafted rookie wide receiver Jason Brownlee, making his own Odell Beckham impersonation. Brownlee continues to make a strong impression and continues to show he has a legit chance to make the 53-man roster.

Draft Wire names Jason Brownlee UDFA to watch for Jets

Draft Wire names Jason Brownlee UDFA to watch for Jets

The Jets had a pair of undrafted free agents make some noise last season. Running back Zonovan Knight and safety Tony Adams both saw playing time despite not hearing their names called in April. Could an undrafted player make some noise again this year for the Jets?

One such player to keep an eye on, in the view of Draft Wire, is Southern Miss wide receiver Jason Brownlee.

Alpha-dog style of receiver for the Golden Eagles with good measurables and the ability to make the spectacular catch, Brownlee has an NFL future if he can more consistently make the routine ones. The 6-2, 205-pounder has all the trappings of a training camp fan favorite who can help himself stick around with good special teams contributions.

Brownlee caught 21 touchdown passes over three years at Southern Miss, including 16 over the last two seasons. His receiving yards went up each year, going from 610 (2020) to 643 (2021) to 891 (2022).

The Jets retooled the wide receiver room, adding Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb in free agency and still have Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis and Denzel Mims. But with a good camp, perhaps Brownlee can challenge either Cobb or Mims for one of the final spots on the 53-man roster. Either way, he’ll be an interesting one to keep an eye on.
