Titans owner moved to tears following upset victory over rival Texans

Following an upset victory over their AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk was moved to tears.

The Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans have an interesting relationship. The rivals not only share a division, they share a history.

As many know, the Titans called Houston home for decades before relocating to Tennessee in the 1990s. While some would dismiss this fact, the truth is that this origin story still sets the stage for an emotional battle on the football field. One that makes this rivalry special for coaches, players, and ownership.

Before his first such battle, rookie cornerback Jarvis Brownlee was unaware of the history and importance of this game for the Titans. He didn’t learn of it at all until head coach Brian Callahan outlined the history of the rivalry and discussed the importance felt by owner Amy Adams Strunk.

“This game is a little more personal,” Brownlee said. “Not just because of the rivalry, but because of Miss Amy as well.”

Brownlee played well in his first installment and now understands the rivalry, one that he will likely take part in a few more times during his career. His comments and thoughts were echoed by a veteran of a few of these battles: defensive tackle Justin Simmons.

“This feels good, not just for us but for Miss Amy,” Simmons said after the game. “We know the history behind everything, and to just sit here with her in the locker room with tears in her eyes, and how much this means to her. It’s the reason.”

It was a huge win for the Titans (3-8) and they seem to finally be turning the corner after a disappointing start to the season. Now, the Titans will turn their attention toward a Week 13 matchup with the Washington Commanders.

Titans rookie CB avoids serious injury in second padded practice

Tennessee Titans rookie cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. looks to have avoided a serious injury during Wednesday’s padded practice.

Tennessee Titans rookie cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. looks to have avoided a serious injury during Wednesday’s padded practice.

Brownlee went down on the field during the team period after colliding with wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine at the top of the route.

After a visit with the training staff, Brownlee walked off under his own power, holding the right side of his back. However, he put his helmet back on and jogged over to the sideline to join his teammates, reports AtoZ Sports.

While padded practices are an exciting point in training camp, you always fear about injuries occurring.

Brownlee has been getting first-team reps with Chidobe Awuzie nursing a calf injury. He has been one of the stand-out performers in camp thus far, especially since the pads have been put on.

On Tuesday, he had a couple of pass break-ups on wideouts Kearis Jackson and Tyler Boyd. The rookie defensive back followed that up with a break-up on Calvin Ridley in 1-on-1 dills on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old has been a perfect fit in defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson’s aggressive scheme after being selected in the fifth round of this year’s draft.

Titans’ Jarvis Brownlee isn’t lacking confidence, has chip on shoulder

New Titans CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. believes he should’ve been drafted earlier and is ready to prove everyone wrong.

The Tennessee Titans selected Louisville corner Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The corner was the second player selected by the Titans on Saturday after taking linebacker Cedric Gray in the fourth round.

In 2023, Brownlee finished with 30 tackles, six passes defensed, and one interception. The corner helped the Cardinals finish with a 10-4 record.

Brownlee joins a much-improved defensive backs room in Nashville that features L’Jarius Sneed, Chidobe Awuzie, and Roger McCreary.

One thing that was apparent immediately after the Brownlee selection is that the corner does not lack confidence. While speaking with Nashville media, Brownlee admitted that he was “upset” with falling to the fifth round. The corner also stressed that he feels he is “one of the top corners in this draft.”

“I’m hyped, I’m anxious, I’m kind of upset,” Brownlee said. “But for me, I think I am just ready to go. It is a dream come true. It is a blessing. But for me, I am just so anxious to show the world what Jarvis Brownlee can do. I always felt like I was doubted, even to this day. So, to me, it is just another step to prove to the world what Jarvis Brownlee can do. I do feel like I am one of the top corners in this draft, and that is just for me to show the world. I am ready to do that.”

The former Cardinal also bluntly stated that some of the players picked before “didn’t put in the work” that Brownlee did.

“I am happy for some of those guys (that were picked ahead of me). But for me, I felt like I should have went earlier. I felt like a lot of guys that did go before me, they didn’t put in the work that I did. … But God works in mysterious ways, man, so I am ready to put the work in and show the world what Jarvis Brownlee is made of.”

It will be interesting to see if Brownlee can back up his talk. The corner will get to learn behind two solid veterans in Sneed and Awuzie.

On the first two nights of the 2024 NFL Draft, the teams selected the first 100 prospects over the three rounds. Now it’s time for the remaining four rounds, kicking off on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET in downtown Detroit.

Baltimore can draft for the best available player after landing Nate Wiggins, Adisa Isaac, and Roger Rosengarten

Here are the top 30 players the Ravens could target on Day 3 of the 2024 NFL draft.

Cardinals to host Louisville CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. for top-30 visit

Brownlee was Kei’Trel Clark’s teammate at Louisville.

Last year, the Arizona Cardinals selected cornerback Kei’Trel Clark out of Louisville in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft. They could add his former teammate in the draft this year.

They will use one of their top-30 prospect visits on Louisville cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr., the player told The Draft Network’s Justin Melo.

Brownlee is 5-foot-10 and 194 pounds.

He played two seasons at Louisville after three at Florida State. In two seasons for the Cardinals, Brownlee intercepted three passes and broke up 18 passes.

He had an interception in the Senior Bowl this year.

He is a player Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon will love. He was a big fan of Clark entering his rookie year.

What will he like about Brownlee? His mentality.

“I think I proved that I’m the ultimate competitor,” Brownlee told Melo. “I’m a dog. I’ve always been overlooked and underappreciated. I showed everyone that I belonged at the Senior Bowl. I’m a team-first guy and a great player. I play with toughness and an aggressive mindset.

“I’m the best cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft.”

He believes he will play more in the slot in the pros and he likes special teams.

The Cardinals used a top-30 visit on Clark last year before drafting him. We will see if history repeats itself.

10 biggest winners from the week of Senior Bowl practices

10 biggest winners from the week of Senior Bowl practices (via Draft Wire):

Another week of Senior Bowl practices ended last week. The three days of work from the American and National rosters helped elevate some players and spotlight who might not be as ready as hoped or hyped for the 2024 NFL draft.

The focus here is on some of the top performers and also a few lesser-known prospects who helped themselves during the sessions in Mobile.

According to our friend Jeff Risdon at Draft Wire, here are 10 biggest winners during the 2024 Senior Bowl:

4 Senior Bowl prospects who elevated themselves on my Lions radar

Not every player fits what the Lions are looking for, but these 4 showed the grit and the game in Mobile to interest Detroit

One of the best parts of going to the annual Reese’s Senior Bowl is learning a lot more about the more than 100 NFL draft prospects down in Mobile. Between interviewing many of them and seeing how they interact with teammates and coaches, we get to see a deeper picture of a player.

Oh yeah, they also play a lot of football during the week. The three days of practices help spotlight individual talents and specific skillsets for the prospects.

Not every player fits what this Lions regime is looking for. Coach Dan Campbell made it clear that potential Lions must clear some character, attitude and cultural fit standards if they are going to be considered.

Here are four players from the Senior Bowl week who improved their Detroit potential in my eyes with their skills on the practice fields, and they also seem to fit the Lions’ lofty personal standards.

Note–I’m leaving out Toledo CB Quinyon Mitchell because he played his way out of being available anywhere close to the No. 29 pick. Dream another dream; that dream is over…

Senior Bowl Q&A with Louisville CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr.

Texans Wire’s John Crumpler chatted with Louisville CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. about his experience and transition to the next level.

The 2024 Senior Bowl concluded Saturday with a 16-7 National Team victory over the American Team.

One of the stars of the week, and the stars of the game, was Louisville cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. He had a phenomenal week of practice and was able to cap it off with an excellent interception against Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman in the game.

The Houston Texans have been confirmed to have met with Brownlee during the Senior Bowl week, which comes with no surprise considering the uncertainty of the position and his talent that was on display.

Texans Wire’s John Crumpler was on site this past week in Mobile, Ala., and had a few minutes to talk with Brownlee about his experience and transition to the next level.
