New Orleans Saints 2023 NFL draft scouting report: Florida State DB Jammie Robinson

New Orleans Saints 2023 NFL draft scouting report: Florida State defensive back Jammie Robinson’s versatility and production stand out, via @DillySanders

One thing is clear with the New Orleans Saints approach to free agency this season, they’re not happy with their defensive back depth. They’ve added some competition already, but they’re likely to look to the draft for another body.

One player whose talent level does not match up with his projected draft range, is Florida State defensive back Jammie Robinson. The idea of getting a player with his skillset in day three of the draft is mouth watering.

He started his career in South Carolina where he spent two seasons, but opted for a change of scenery for his last two years as a Seminole. He averaged just under seven tackles a game in his 47-game career, adding on 15.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He also performed well in coverage, with seven interceptions and 16 passes broken up.

The ideal situation for Jammie is that he grows into a bigger version of Tyrann Mathieu for the Saints. He’s a great leader that can play anywhere on the field. Put him in slot, in the box, deep safety, linebacker, rush him off the edge, whatever you want. The worry with him would that he might be a jack of all trades, but master of none when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. He doesn’t have super long arms, but he seems to be more of a guy where you watch him on film and don’t overthink his NFL projection. He’s a producer.

2023 Lions mock draft: Post-free agent kickoff edition

After the first few days of free agency have altered the Detroit Lions roster and need list, it’s time for an updated mock draft

After the first few days of free agency have altered the Detroit Lions roster and need list, it’s time for an updated mock draft.

These projections are based off the current state of the Lions’ roster as of March 17th and the recent signings through K Michael Badgley.

The picks here are what I think the Lions might do with the picks in the given situation. They do not necessarily represent the choices I would make. For the first two picks, I ran three different draft simulators (PFF, PFN, Fanspeak) to try and build some level of baseline availability. If a player was gone on two of the three simulators, I considered them off the board.

For the first pick at No. 6, that ruled out C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson and Will Anderson. It led to some interesting projections.

2023 NFL draft: Seahawks to meet with Florida State S Jammie Robinson

The Seahawks are doing their research on every position ahead of the 2023 NFl draft, even those ones where they might not seemingly have a need.

The Seahawks are doing their research on every position ahead of the 2023 NFl draft, even those ones where they might not seemingly have a need. For example, even though they already have Charles Cross and Abe Lucas bookending their offensive line, they will be hosting Ohio State OT Dawand Jones for an official top 30 visit.

Safety is another spot where they’re already covered with Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs starting and Ryan Neal likely returning to back them up. Seattle is still evaluating some safeties in this class, though. They met with Boise State’s JL Skinner at the combine and according to Ryan Fowler at the Draft Network, they’ve scheduled a top-30 visit with Florida State’s Jammie Robinson.

Robinson (5-foot-11, 191 pounds) didn’t test great at the combine, posting a 57 athleticism score and ranking No. 16 among safeties.

However, on the field he’s shown a knack for impacting the game in several different ways. After transferring from South Carolina, Robinson appeared in 25 games for the Seminoles over the last two seasons. During that time he posted five interceptions, eight pass breakups, 12 tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles. Here are the highlights.

2021

2022

Robinson is currently projected to be a third-round pick.

Broncos met with DB Jammie Robinson at the NFL combine

The Broncos met with FSU defensive back Jammie Robinson at the NFL combine.

The Denver Broncos had a formal meeting with FSU defensive back Jammie Robinson at the NFL combine earlier this offseason, according to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo. NFL teams are allowed to have up to 45 formal visits with players at the combine each year.

Robinson (5-11, 191 pounds) earned first-team All-ACC honors last season after leading the Seminoles with 99 tackles in 13 games. He was named FSU’s Defensive MVP in 2022 and is now considered a Day 2 prospect for the upcoming NFL draft.

Robinson ran a 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds and bench-pressed 225 pounds 23 times at the combine. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has compared him to Damarious Randall, who was a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Robinson is a versatile defensive back who could play as a safety or nickelback in the NFL. Most mock drafts have him going off the board in the third round. Denver holds picks Nos. 67 and 68 in the third round this year.

The Broncos might be looking to add a safety this offseason with 34-year-old veteran Kareem Jackson scheduled to become a free agent on March 15.

The 2023 NFL draft will be held in Kansas City from April 27-29.

10 takeaways from the top defensive back performances at NFL Combine

We’re looking at takeaways and observations from the defensive back workouts at the 2023 NFL scouting combine

The Eagles are in Indianapolis for the 2023 NFL scouting combine, and all eyes within the organization will likely be on impact defenders.

Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, T.J. Edwards, Kyzir White, James Bradberry, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Marcus Epps are all slated for free agency. It won’t be possible for the Eagles to bring them all back, especially once Jalen Hurts signs his new deal.

Philadelphia could look to draft a cornerback and safety with multiple free agents in the secondary.

We’ve previewed the edge rushers and linebackers who worked out on Thursday, and here are the takeaways from the defensive back portion of the events.

3 defensive backs Saints fans should scout at the 2023 NFL combine

Antonio Johnson and Trey Dean among defensive back matches for the #Saints to watch at the NFL Combine, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

While the New Orleans Saints are pretty set at cornerback with Marshon Lattimore, Paulson Adebo and Alontae Taylor all currently on the roster, the value of good defensive backs should never be overlooked. For New Orleans, their biggest need from this group will be that of safety. With only veterans Tyrann Mathieu and Marcus Maye under contract to start the offseason, the position should be seen as a bit of an underrated need.

The Saints could also look to find an option to compete on the slot with veteran corner Bradley Roby as there are a lot of versatile players in this year’s NFL draft. After the departure of former slot safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson last year, an injection of youth at the position could be in the team’s best interest. That would make an investment there both a short and long-term one for the Saints defense. Here are three options to keep an eye on at the combine.

NFL mock draft: 49ers hit key needs with all 3 picks

A new 3-round mock sends a safety, a big defensive lineman and a potential long-term answer at center to the #49ers.

With less than two weeks left until free agency opens, our friends at the Draft Wire released another three-round projection that includes San Francisco’s three selections at the end of the third round.

Free agency could change San Francisco’s list of needs, but this early three-round mock draft has the 49ers touching on perhaps their three biggest needs going into the offseason.

Let’s dive into the picks:
