Tennessee Titans sign safety Jamal Adams

#Titans sign safety Jamal Adams:

The Tennessee Titans have signed veteran safety Jamal Adams.

The team has confirmed the addition, and per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal is for one year, although financial terms were not disclosed:

A former first-round pick (No. 6 overall) of the New York Jets, Adams spent three years there before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2020. He spent the past four seasons in Seattle before signing with the Titans.

Adams, 28, has four interceptions in his career and 21.5 career sacks. However, Adams has not had a pick since 2021 and has not recorded a sack since 2020.

Grade for Titans signing Jamal Adams in free agency

How we graded the Titans’ signing of veteran safety Jamal Adams.

While we didn’t know who they would sign, the Tennessee Titans bringing in another safety in free agency was inevitable. Well, on Thursday, the inevitable finally happened.

The Titans have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Jamal Adams, but the financial terms were not immediately disclosed. However, one would assume it’ll be a cheap deal considering all of Adams’ issues in recent years.

After becoming one of the best safeties in the NFL during his time with the New York Jets, Adams was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, where his career took a nosedive.

Adams dealt with plenty of injury issues, missing four games in 2020, five in 2021, 16 in 2022 and eight in 2023. On top of that, his play on the field declined, as he didn’t tally a single sack the past three years and posted career-worst coverage numbers twice (2020, 2023).

Normally you wouldn’t consider sacks an important stat for a safety, but that isn’t the case with Adams, who is at his best when playing in the box and blitzing, which makes him a good complement to Amani Hooker.

That style of play is also a great fit for defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson’s defense, which seeks to be aggressive, and certainly more so than the previous regime’s scheme. Wilson is also quite familiar with the veteran safety, who he coached during his days with the Jets.

There are no shortage of concerns with Adams and he certainly wasn’t our first choice for the Titans to sign (that was Justin Simmons).

However, he is a good fit for the Titans and has a coach who knows how to use him. Further, he gives Tennessee’s safeties group much-needed depth with Elijah Molden likely to get pushed to No. 3.

Grade: C+

Jamal Adams agrees to deal with Titans after free agent interest from Ravens

Former Jets and Seahawks safety Jamal Adams agrees to a 1-year deal with Tennessee Titans

Geno Stone’s departure to Cincinnati has left Baltimore with a void at safety, and a once-dominant veteran won’t be filling the role.

Turron Davenport reports that former Seattle and New York Jets star safety Jamal Adams is signing with the Titans after prior free-agent interest from Baltimore.

Adams played in just ten games for the Seahawks over the past two years because of injuries after developing into a star during his tenure with the Jets.

The Ravens currently have Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams at the top of their safety depth chart but have no true NFL experience on the depth beyond that.

Tennessee Titans, Jamal Adams agree to terms, per report

The Titans have reportedly signed free-agent safety Jamal Adams.

The Tennessee Titans have reportedly finally made an addition at the safety position, something the team has been expected to do for some time now.

According to ESPN’s Turron Davenport, the Titans and safety Jamal Adams have agreed to terms on a deal. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal is for one year, although financial terms were not disclosed.

Adams has a connection with the Titans through defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, who served as his position coach from 2017-19 with the New York Jets.

A former first-round pick (No. 6 overall) of the Jets, Adams spent the first three years of his career with Gang Green and was once considered one of the best safeties in the NFL.

However, things went downhill for Adams after he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2020. Since then, the veteran has had a ton of injury issues and hasn’t been very effective when on the field.

That said, the Titans needed to make an addition at safety. Not only was one of the projected starters, Elijah Molden, a question mark, the team was also lacking depth at the position.

Adams may not be what he once was, but he could very well be an upgrade over Molden.

Should the Ravens sign former Seahawks safety Jamal Adams?

Bleacher Report suggested that the Ravens sign former Seahawks safety Jamal Adams

The Baltimore Ravens made headlines a few weeks ago when it was reported that the team brought former Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams for a visit. The team needs safety depth, and Adams would be an exciting fit based on his skillset and current level of play.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggested that the Ravens sign Adams, naming him a potential suitor for Baltimore and his former team, the Seahawks. It’s not hard to connect the dots with the two sides showing interest.

“The Ravens have also shown interest in Adams and met with the three-time Pro Bowler in May, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.”

Adams is far from the player he was in his prime, but if there’s a place for him to try revitalizing his career, it could be with Baltimore. He could play a dime linebacker role for the team where he’s moved around the defense, freeing Kyle Hamilton to play an even bigger part in the team’s defense.

Let’s see how Seattle’s new-look safety room ranks compared to the rest of the NFL

The Seahawks made some major changes to their safety room this offseason. After a rough year, Quandre Diggs was cut for cap savings, despite having made the Pro Bowl the three seasons before. Meanwhile, Jamal Adams was a less agonizing cap cut. In their place 2023 Pro Bowler Julian Love is now at the top of the depth chart, and he will be joined by free agent pickups Rayshawn Jenkins and K’Von Wallace.

Let’s see how Seattle’s new-look safety room ranks compared to the rest of the NFL. Here’s how Mike Clay at ESPN ranked all 32 safety units around the league after the 2024 NFL draft.

Seahawks safety Rayshawn Jenkins talks about Mike Macdonald’s scheme

There are plenty of new faces in the Emerald City this year, especially at the safety position. Gone are Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. In their place, is former Los Angeles Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars safety, Rayshawn Jenkins.

Jenkins signed a two-year contract with the Seahawks this spring after being released by the Jaguars. Now he joins a Seattle team looking to revamp its lackluster defense under newly minted head coach Mike Macdonald.

Recently, Macdonald spoke to the media about installing his defensive scheme. Macdonald was positive, explaining how spirits were high and they were taking their time to build a proper foundation. To follow Macdonald, the media then heard from one of his players to get their perspective on how things are going.

Jenkins’ comments can be seen in the Tweet below.

Jenkins played in all 34 regular season games the previous two years for Jacksonville, including two playoff games during the 2022 postseason. His durability and veteran presense will be crucial for a Seahawks team looking to enter into a new era.

Former Seahawks strong safety Jamal Adams visits with Ravens

Jamal Adams had a free agent visit today with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN.

Former Seattle Seahawks safety and current free agent Jamal Adams had a visit today with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN.

Adams was originally picked by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. He played 46 games in three years there before getting traded to Seattle in the summer of 2020.

Adams spent the next four seasons on and off the Seahawks roster, missing as many games as he played due to a variety of injuries. All together Adams has made three Pro Bowl teams and he was a first-team All-Pro in 2019.

Where Adams might fit in with the Ravens is an intriguing question. He has played his entire career listed as a strong safety, but there has been talk that Seattle might re-sign him as a linebacker.

If Baltimore’s coaching staff (which was built in part by Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald) is thinking of a similar role he might fit in beneath Roquan Smith on the depth chart in the absence of Patrick Queen, who signed with the Steelers in free agency.

Former LSU safety Jamal Adams visiting with Baltimore Ravens

Jamal Adams remains unsigned, but that could be set to change in the coming days.

There was once a time when [autotag]Jamal Adams[/autotag] was considered among the best young safeties in the NFL. But with the draft being almost a month in the rearview, the former LSU safety remains a free agent entering what will be his eighth season.

That could be set to change in the coming days, however, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Adams is visiting with the Baltimore Ravens on Monday. It would certainly be an intriguing fit for the 28-year-old on one of the league’s better defenses.

Adams was the sixth overall pick in 2017 by the Jets, and he was named an All-Pro in three of his first four seasons, including First-Team honors in 2019. He was sent to Seattle in a blockbuster trade in 2020, though his level of play didn’t exactly keep up.

Adams has also battled injuries in recent seasons and has appeared in just 10 games over the past two years.
