One of Clemson’s top defensive tackle targets in the class of 2023 dropped his final five schools on Thursday afternoon via social media.

Grimsley’s (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Jamaal Jarrett is down to Clemson, Georgia, UNC, LSU and Auburn.

Clemson was able to get the 6-foot-5, 340-pound junior on campus last week, where he was able to earn an offer. Jarrett long maintained that he wanted an offer from Clemson, so he could include the Tigers in his top school’s list.

What stood out about Clemson the most to Jarrett?

“I like how they treat their school like an SEC program,” Jarrett said. “Just Dabo Swinney himself and all the other coaches. I even talked to a player too. It was just awesome. Their standards there are set really high. Anything and everything they do, they do it at 100%. The way they do everything over there as far as academics, it’s great, man. They support my two majors as well. It was really great just knowing that and that they’re not just football players, but scholar-athletes as well. It was a great visit.”

Jarrett has seen his relationship grow with defensive tackles coach Nick Eason and defensive coordinator Wesley Goodwin. They have prioritized him since joining Clemson’s staff and want a player like him to join them in Death Valley.

“They were like they want a big guy like me that can move,” he said. “They’ve seen my track videos and stuff. They love how I run and how I move. They really just want me to get back up there for another visit and probably see a game or two. They were talking about my position and giving me tips on my position. I was also watching the defensive linemen work out in the weight room.”

Top DT target recaps ‘amazing’ Clemson experience

This Monday, Clemson played host to one of its top defensive tackle targets in the 2023 recruiting class.

Grimsley’s (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Jamaal Jarrett made his way to Tiger Town for an unofficial visit. He’s been aiming to visit Clemson, so he could earn a scholarship offer from the coaching staff, which he did Monday.

“It was awesome,” Jarrett told The Clemson Insider. “The campus was beautiful. I was able to meet with and sit down with the coaches. I got to meet some of the players like Payton Page, Bryan Bresee and some others. It was great.”

While on campus, Jarrett got some big news.

During a conversation with Dabo Swinney, Clemson’s head coach informed the highly touted defensive tackle that the Tigers were extending a scholarship offer to him.

“It was just crazy,” he said. “I was just shaking and everything, I was like ‘Oh my God, I’m at Clemson.’ It was awesome, just a great experience.”

If Jarrett were to drop a top schools list — which he plans on doing May 1 — Clemson would be in it. He’s winding things down in his recruitment, so he’s in the process of knocking some schools off of his list. With that said, Jarrett is in no rush to make a decision. He’s torn between wanting to make a decision prior to his senior season or waiting until after, so he can make some game day visits.

Time will tell, but the Tigers have seemingly solidified a spot in his recruitment until the very end.

A big-time Tar Heel State defensive lineman, who was on campus for an unofficial visit Monday, announced an offer from Clemson.

Grimsley’s (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star defensive tackle Jamaal Jarett reported the offer on Twitter.

The Clemson Insider recently spoke with Jarrett, who dished the latest on his recruitment and what he’s been hearing from Clemson since we last spoke with him in February.

“It would be a blessing, man,” he said then regarding a potential offer. “All my other offers are a blessing, but it would be really cool to go to Clemson, see their facilities, see Payton Page and Bryan Bresee. It would be pretty cool to experience and talk to the players.”

In the meantime, Jarrett is focusing on building a relationship with the coaching staff, which has prioritized him as a target in the 2023 recruiting class since the start of the new year.

Jarrett had been hoping to get in touch with Clemson for the longest time, so the rising senior reinforced that it was a “blessing” that both Eason and Wesley Goodwin have honed in on him as a priority target for Clemson.

“Me and the whole staff are pretty tight,” Jarrett said. “Coach Goodwin, Coach Eason, the wide receivers coach (Tyler Grisham) and Coach Swinney as well. It’s just a great relationship with the staff. It’s pretty cool, they’re all focusing on me making a visit.”

Jarrett is dropping his top five schools in May and he told TCI that he wants Clemson to be in it, along with North Carolina, Georgia and Auburn.

Tar Heels getting big visit from four-star DT this weekend

UNC football is hosting a big time four-star defensive tackle for a visit this weekend.

The North Carolina football program will be hosting another big time visitor this weekend in addition to four-star safety [autotag]Michael Daughtery[/autotag].

2023 four-star defensive tackle [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag] will also be on campus this weekend in Chapel Hill visiting UNC. Jarrett has offers from Georgia, North Carolina, Auburn, Michigan, Florida, Miami (Fla), Penn State, Tennessee and many more.

Jarrett was also on UNC’s campus twice last summer.

Jarrett has been a big time prospect on North Carolina’s recruiting board for much of the past year and the Tar Heels sit in a good spot for the four-star DT along with Georgia, but it may be difficult to keep Jarrett in-state after a recent visit to Georgia.

Rivals national writer Adam Gorney recently took a look at Jarrett’s recruitment.

Georgia and North Carolina are the front-runners for Jamaal Jarrett and while I’m never going to count out coach Mack Brown and the Tar Heels for an in-state prospect, the Bulldogs look tough to beat. He had such a great experience there for two days getting to know the coaches and players, sitting in on meetings and experiencing everything Georgia has to offer. If I had to pick right now, Georgia is clearly the frontrunner.

North Carolina has one commitment in the class of 2023 from quarterback [autotag]Tad Hudson[/autotag].

“I talked to Coach (Nick) Eason (Sunday) and he’s just working to see if I can get on a visit in April or May,” Jarrett said. “He’s just really aiming for me to get on the visit, so I can get the offer. He was like they’re (D-Line U) and if I come over there, I can make them even better.”

Jarrett informed us Thursday that he will be visiting Clemson on Monday, April 11. He’ll also be at the University of North Carolina’s spring game this weekend.

While he’s chomping at the bit to make that trip o Clemson, there’s a good possibility that he could leave campus Monday with an offer in hand. With that said, what would it mean to Jarrett if Clemson did pull the trigger on a potential scholarship offer?

“It would be a blessing, man,” he said. “All my other offers are a blessing, but it would be really cool to go to Clemson, see their facilities, see Payton Page and Bryan Bresee. It would be pretty cool to experience and talk to the players.”

The Insider Report: Latest on Vizzina and multiple priority targets

It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend and is having a great week so far.

The latest on Christopher Vizzina

As promised, The Clemson Insider has the latest on Clemson’s priority quarterback prospect. TCI was in attendance for Sunday’s Elite 11 Regional Atlanta at Carrollton High School and asked Briarwood Christian (Birmingham, Ala.) four-star Christopher Vizzina a couple of questions then. At the same time, we limited what we asked about Clemson because we wanted him to be able to digest Monday’s visit to Tiger Town.

We spoke with Vizizna over the phone Tuesday afternoon and he offered his reaction to his spring practice visit, what he heard from Clemson’s coaching staff, and much, much more.

“It was great,” Vizzina said. “I really needed to see a practice and that’s what I’ve been trying to do during these visits I’ve been going to. I needed to see a Clemson practice. It was kind of hard for them to really impress me because I’ve seen everything already. I’m sure it’s hard on their part trying to schedule a visit for me, but I’m still impressed with practice and everything and just how Coach Swinney and everybody coaches.

“It was really fun to watch. I really enjoyed being around the quarterbacks and everything. I really got to pick their minds about Clemson and everything. It was a great experience.”

Vizzina said that he spoke with all of Clemson’s quarterbacks — D.J. Uiagalelei, Cade Klubnik, Hunter Helms and Billy Wiles — but it was Uiagalelei who gave him a lot of good wisdom on how to make a decision. According to Vizzina, Uiagalelei didn’t really put any “Clemson bias” on how to make a decision and he really appreciated that.

Beyond that, he got to see how Brandon Streeter ran his offense and how Clemson’s quarterbacks responded to it during Monday’s spring practice.

“I got to sit through their pre-practice meeting and everything before they went out there,” he said. “I liked all the plays that Coach Streeter was calling and all the ones that they were working on. I’m excited to see how that plays out in the spring game and everything.

“Coach Streeter showed me a lot. Really the visit before this one, (Saturday, Jan. 29) he really sat down and showed me how the plays translate to the NFL. I actually got to see these plays run in front of me, the quarterbacks picking up on everything, so I think Coach Streeter’s doing a great job of teaching the offense to everybody and there was a lot of positive feedback from the players about Coach Streeter in his new role.”

Update on Carolinas DT target

We have the latest on Grimsley (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Jamaal Jarrett, who spoke to TCI on Monday and dished on his recruitment, as well as what he’s been hearing from the Tigers as of late.

“I talked to Coach (Nick) Eason (Sunday) and he’s just working to see if I can get on a visit in April or May,” Jarrett said. “He’s just really aiming for me to get on the visit, so I can get the offer. He was like they’re d-line U and if I come over there, I can make them even better.”

Jarrett is chomping at the bit to visit Clemson and potentially earn that offer from the Tigers. With that said, what would it mean to him if Clemson did pull the trigger on a potential scholarship offer?

“It would be a blessing, man,” he said. “All my other offers are a blessing, but it would be really cool to go to Clemson, see their facilities, see Payton Page and Bryan Bresee. It would be pretty cool to experience and talk to the players.”

Jarrett is dropping his top six schools in May and he told TCI that he wants Clemson to be in it, along with North Carolina, Georgia and Auburn.

Priority cornerback target locks in official visit

Right before we released this week’s edition of the Insider Report, we spoke with Coppell (Texas) four-star cornerback Braxton Myers, who confirmed his plans to take an official visit to Clemson on Friday, June 3.

“I’m really just keeping in contact with them every one to two days with Coach (Mike) Reed and Coach (Wesley) Goodwin,” Myers said. “We scheduled my official visit for June 3 and really been just talking on a daily basis.”

Myers wants to be committed prior to his senior season, so Clemson wants to ensure that he’s able to take his official visit before he makes his final college decision.

“I guess just like getting around the players more because I haven’t really done that yet,” he said when asked what he’s looking to see on his upcoming official visit.

Myers won’t be able to make Clemson’s spring game on Saturday, April 9; he’ll be at Ole Miss this weekend instead. He’s recently taken visits to Southern Cal, Auburn, Florida State and will also be in Arkansas next weekend.

After dropping his top 12 schools at the beginning of February, Myers told us that he plans on cutting down his list to seven schools at the end of this month. With an official visit to Clemson already set, it’s obvious that the Tigers will be among his final contenders.

“The reason why they made it is just because I’ve been knowing them for a long time and I know that they can develop me on and off the field greatly,” he said, “and I can tell with my recruitment process, they’re always hitting me up and want me to a part of their program at Clemson.”

Priority OL target ready for return trip to Tiger Town this weekend

TCI caught up with one of the Tigers’ top offensive line targets in the 2023 class who recently cut his recruitment down to three schools and is set to be back on campus at Clemson this weekend.

South Point High School (Belmont, N.C.) four-star Sullivan Absher dropped a final three of Clemson, NC State and Notre Dame last Friday, and will return to Tiger Town this Saturday for the Orange & White Spring Game.

Absher (6-7, 300), who received an offer from the Tigers in February, was previously on campus for the program’s second junior day of the year in early March and also visited Clemson for a pair of games last season. He told TCI that he’s been looking to get back on campus as soon as he could after attending the junior day.

“I have such a great experience every time I’m there,” he said.

Absher has built a strong bond with Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin and joked that they were arguing over March Madness for the past couple weeks. Absher told us they talk like Austin has already been his coach for years now, even though Austin was only formally named the Tigers’ new offensive line coach in early February.

As for his recruitment, Absher said he simply felt like narrowing things down to three finalists would eliminate a lot of unnecessary distractions, and added that a big reason he included Clemson among those schools is because of how consistently the program develops its student-athletes at a high level, not only as players but as men as well.

The only other visit Absher currently has scheduled is a trip to Notre Dame on April 23. He’s still hoping to commit sometime prior to his senior season.

Big-time Peach State DL can see himself on Clemson’s defense

This highly regarded Peach State defensive lineman can see himself playing on Clemson’s defensive front in the future.

Mountain View High School (Lawrenceville, Ga.) four-star defensive end Justin Greene – the nation’s No. 3 defensive lineman in the 2024 class, per 247Sports – visited Clemson on March 12 and came away very impressed.

“The facilities were first-class all the way, the staff was amazing and I really made a connection with Coach Hall (defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall) and Coach Eason (defensive tackles coach Nick Eason),” Greene told TCI recently, reflecting on the visit experience. “I like the culture they’re building. I could see myself being a part of their defense.”

Greene is already planning to return to Clemson for the Dabo Swinney Camp in June and hopes to further strengthen his relationship with Clemson’s staff while showing them what he can do on the field.

Along with the Tigers, schools such as Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida State are showing the most early interest in Greene, who has offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. He describes himself as a “technically sound” defensive end who is explosive off the ball.

“My speed and athleticism paired with my length make me a problem,” he said.

Greene (6-4, 235) is the No. 26 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports.

Strong mutual interest between Clemson, standout safety

There is plenty of mutual interest between Clemson and this promising class of 2024 defensive back who was on campus last month as well.

TCI recently caught up with Jaiden Spearman, a safety prospect who attends The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound sophomore visited Clemson in mid-March with his father and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, during which he was able to spend a lot of time with the staff, including Swinney and safeties coach/co-defensive coordinator Mickey Conn.

Spearman really hit it off with Conn.

“He just kept it real,” Spearman said. “I spent most of my time really talking to Mickey. We went to the team’s meeting. I went to watch their practice, and then we sat down in all of the safeties meetings, so I went with the safeties for like two of their meetings. We watched film … and really just spent a lot of time with the staff. Everybody was really, really, really good — everybody. So, it was a great time.”

Like Greene, Spearman plans to participate in the Swinney Camp this summer.

Swinney explained Clemson’s offer process to Spearman and let him know they typically don’t offer prospects early. But the Tigers have expressed their interest, which is certainly reciprocated by Spearman.

“We talked to Dabo, and he explained his thoughts on ‘24s and offering ‘24s,” he said. “I like the amount of time and attention that they put into their evaluations. They both told me that they like my size, my length, my aggressiveness. Mickey, he likes safeties that aren’t afraid to get in the box, that hit, and he said I fit that profile. So, they said they were very interested in me. I told them I’m interested in them. They said that they’re slower than some of the other schools (with offers), and they asked me to keep the relationship going. So, I look forward to coming back.”

While Spearman goes to school in Connecticut, he is from Charlotte and said “it would mean a lot” to get an offer from Clemson in the future.

“I like the coaching staff. They seem like they care about their players,” he said. “It would mean a lot, and then being from the area, it’s always good when you get love from teams around your area.”

Spearman currently holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Connecticut, Florida Atlantic, Michigan, Ole Miss and Purdue.

Georgia holding ‘firm lead’ for this big UNC football target

The Georgia Bulldogs appear to be the favorite for this four-star defensive lineman in the 2023 class.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program are in pursuit of an in-state recruit in the 2023 class, hoping to land him for their defense.

Four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag] has been on UNC’s radar for a while now and is undoubtedly one of their top targets. However, UNC has some major competition in the form of the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Greensboro, North Carolina native recently took a visit to Georgia over the weekend which reportedly went great, and now the Bulldogs appear to be the favorites.

Rivals reporter Adam Gorney wrote on Jarrett’s recruitment in his Fact or Faction piece and stated that the Bulldogs are the team to beat right now:

FACT. Georgia and North Carolina are the front-runners for Jamaal Jarrett and while I’m never going to count out coach Mack Brownand the Tar Heels for an in-state prospect, the Bulldogs look tough to beat. He had such a great experience there for two days getting to know the coaches and players, sitting in on meetings and experiencing everything Georgia has to offer. If I had to pick right now, Georgia is clearly the frontrunner.

While UNC is also a frontrunner, it’s clear that the Tar Heels do have some work to do in this recruitment.

Beating out an SEC team for a talent like Jarrett is no easy task. But if Brown and his staff can do it, this would be a big boost to their 2023 class.

Tigers offer 4-star OT from North Carolina

Brian Kelly is making a push for Jamaal Jarrett, an offensive tackle from Greensboro, North Carolina.

LSU continues to make a push for offensive linemen in the 2023 recruiting class, as the coaching staff has now offered Jamaal Jarrett

Jarrett is a 6-foot-5-inch, 309-pound offensive tackle from Greensboro, North Carolina, where he plays for the Grimsley High School Whirlies.

The Whirlies were 2020 state champions and entered the Class 4A playoffs this year with a record of 10-0 before they eventually lost to Porter Ridge in the second round 41-27.

Jarrett plays multiple positions for Grimsley as he plays offensive tackle, offensive guard, and defensive tackle as well. Jarrett is currently crystal-balled to play for North Carolina and head coach Mack Brown, but hopefully, coach Kelly can make a trip to Greensboro and change the big man’s mind.

Clemson offer would help huge Carolinas DL narrow down his recruitment

The Clemson Insider recently spoke with a North Carolina native in the class of 2023, who has been receiving a lot of attention from Clemson’s coaching staff.

We’ve reached out to Grimsley (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Jamaal Jarett in the past to see if Clemson had been a school he’d been in touch with. Despite his best efforts, he never heard from the previous defensive coaching staff.

According to Jarrett — a 6-5, 340-pound junior — that has since changed as Nick Eason, Wesley Goodwin and Carter Thomason have all been recruiting him hard.

Since Goodwin and Eason have assumed their current roles, Jarrett has become a priority for the Tigers.

We reached out to him again after he posted the below graphic on Twitter Monday.

“It’s awesome, man,” Jarrett said about hearing from Clemson. “You already know, I’ve been trying to reach out to Clemson for the longest, since Todd Bates was there and everything. He’s gone and with the new coaches coming in, they’re starting to evaluate North Carolina harder. My name popped up and they’ve been recruiting me pretty hard now.”

Jarrett estimates that he’s in contact with Goodwin — Clemson’s defensive coordinator — at least 2-3 times a week, while he talks with Eason just about every day. Before Jarrett ultimately receives an offer from the Tigers, he’s aiming to build a relationship with Eason, his would-be position coach and Goodwin, as well as Thomason, a defensive analyst on Dabo Swinney’s staff.

“It’s pretty good, man,” he said of his relationship with the Tigers’ defensive staff. “Coach Goodwin checks up on me every day. Me and Coach Eason have that bond already because he was at Auburn and one of my friends plays at Auburn. Me and him relate to a lot of things. He talks about my game and what I can work on and I’m always asking him questions on how to get better.”

The friend that Jarrett mentioned is Neville (Monroe, LA.) 2022 three-star defensive lineman Enyce Sledge, who signed with Auburn during the early signing period in December. While Sledge didn’t have a chance to play for Clemson’s defensive tackles coach at Auburn, Eason did serve as his lead recruiter.

“He said that Coach Eason is awesome,” Jarrett said regarding what he’s heard from Sledge. “He evaluates and recruits you hard. If he really likes you and sees potential in you, he’s gonna make sure you’re alright and make sure you’re getting better every day.”

Jarrett has talked with Clemson’s staff about taking a visit this spring. He’s planning on visiting both Tennessee and Georgia, but also wants to make sure he gets on Clemson’s campus within the next month or so. As of now, he hasn’t scheduled date and he indicated that that’s to be determined.

Last month, Jarrett made visits to Georgia, UNC and N.C. State.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, Jarrett said that his main focus is taking these upcoming visits to the schools he mentioned and seeing what they’re all about. He’s gonna start narrowing down his process around the summertime.

What would a Clemson offer mean to Jarrett?

“It would definitely help my recruitment, like start to narrow it down, ” he said. “Because Clemson is one of the schools that I’ve really been aiming for since my sophomore, freshman year, so it would be crazy if they finally pulled the trigger for me. It would definitely help me narrow down some schools.

“And I know Payton Page is one of the best defensive tackles from North Carolina and it seems like he’s enjoying it over there. If Clemson were to pull the trigger on the offer, I would be really happy, man. I would definitely put them in my top list coming towards the summer.”

Jarrett is a big fan of Bryan Bresee, he watches the Tigers’ star defensive tackle almost 24/7. Believe it or not, Bresee was one of Jarrett’s favorite high school recruits to watch growing up. He also mentioned guys like Page and Myles Murphy.

“Their D-line is loaded right now,” Jarrett said. “If I were to go to Clemson, by the time I would get there, some more spots would become open.”

As for Jarrett, a lot of people compare him to former University of Georgia standout defensive tackle Jordan Davis, because of the way he takes up space, fights off blocks and the way he can run for his size. He and Davis are pretty identical as far as size.

Florida football re-offers this 4-star defensive lineman

The Gators circled back around again for this 4-star defensive lineman.

Four-star defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett previously held an offer from Florida under coach Dan Mullen. But on Monday, new head coach Billy Napier extended a scholarship toward the 6-foot-5-inch, 309-pound junior.

His relationship with the Gators is still in the early development stage, but Jarrett has a previous connection with one of Napier’s assistants: inside linebackers coach Jay Bateman. Jarrett told Corey Bender’s On3 that they developed a tight bond when Bateman coached at North Carolina. The new Florida assistant immediately reached out to Jarrett and started recruiting him to UF once Napier hired him.

Despite his ranking as a four-star defensive lineman, some schools are recruiting him to play offense. What about the Gators?

“They want me to be the big man in the middle on defense,” Jarrett said. “I prefer defense, but a lot of coaches want me on offense. Whatever works for them. Works for me.”

He also appreciates Bateman’s loyalty and belief in him. Because of that, Jarrett said Florida would make his top eight or nine if he made a list.

“I just love their support,” he said. “Their fans support the heck out of their school. The games are awesome and the whole town is there, so it’s just awesome. The coaches are cool, too; the new coaches are great.”

When the recruiting dead period is lifted at the start of March, he plans to visit Tennessee on March 5, but Jarrett said he’s mulling visits to Florida and Georgia, too.  He also holds offers from Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Kentucky, Penn State as well as others.
