USC, Eric Henderson get another big defensive line transfer

Eric Henderson. Click, clack. That’s it. That’s all we need to say right now at USC. The Dawgwork continues.

For the second time in three days, USC football and Eric Henderson have landed a huge transfer portal addition along the defensive line. On Saturday morning, USC landed a commitment from transfer defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett. Jarrett comes to USC from Georgia, where he spent the past two seasons. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Jarrett spent his two seasons with the Bulldogs primarily in a reserve role. At Georgia, he recorded just nine tackles, with no sacks or turnovers forced.

At 6’5” and 350 pounds, however, Jarrett’s potential is clearly there. Now, it will be up to USC defensive line coach Eric Henderson and company to realize it.

Jarrett is USC’s second defensive line addition from an SEC school in the past three days. On Thursday, the Trojans added Keeshawn Silver, formerly of Kentucky.

USC fans will certainly hope that Jarrett will pan out better than the last defensive lineman that the Trojans brought in from Georgia.

Georgia Bulldogs football DT Jamaal Jarrett announces transfer portal destination

Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Jamaal “Jah” Jarrett is transferring to Southern California to play for the USC Trojans he announced via social media.

Jarrett, a former four-star prospect from the 2023 recruiting class, will bring multiple years of eligibility to his new team. He played in 11 games for the Georgia Bulldogs during the 2024 season, finishing with three tackles. He competed for a starting role but had been limited throughout his career because of injuries. Jarrett is primarily a run stopping force.

He is replacing Bear Alexander, another former Bulldog, in the middle of the line. With Alexander gone to Oregon, Jarrett has the opportunity to become the anchor the Trojans’ run defense.

Jarrett will have three years of eligibility remaining. He becomes the second Bulldog to find a new home for next season. Julian Humphrey announced this month that he will join SEC foe Texas A&M.

Every Georgia Bulldog in the transfer portal

10 Georgia Bulldogs have entered the transfer portal this winter

Several Georgia Bulldogs have already entered the NCAA transfer portal following its opening on Monday, Dec. 9. Over the coming weeks, the Georgia program will focus on identifying potential transfer targets, managing outgoing players and assessing player availability for the Sugar Bowl.

During last year’s transfer cycle, Georgia had 24 players enter the portal while bringing in 11.

During the current cycle, 10 Bulldogs have entered the transfer portal. The majority of Georgia’s portal entries are players who have been passed by younger players.

Georgia’s transfer portal window (when players are allowed to enter the portal) will close five days after Georgia’s season ends.

Georgia football DT enters transfer portal

Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle, former four-star recruit enters the NCAA transfer portal after two seasons

Georgia Bulldogs sophomore defensive lineman Jamaal “Jah” Jarrett plans to enter the transfer portal after spending two seasons with the program. During his time with the Bulldogs, Jarrett appeared in 16 games and recorded nine tackles.

Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 350 pounds, Jarrett was considered a developmental prospect entering college. In his first season, he played in five games, including a bowl game, while retaining his redshirt. Despite limited action, he made an impact and recorded at least one tackle in four of those five appearances.

In his second year, Jamaal Jarrett took on a larger role in Georgia’s defensive line rotation, particularly early in the season when injuries hit the unit. He appeared in 11 of the Bulldogs’ 13 games before the College Football Playoff but managed just three tackles during the season.

Coming out of Grimsley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, Jarrett was ranked as the No. 183 overall player, the No. 21 defensive lineman nationally, and the No. 6 prospect in the state for the class of 2023. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

Jarrett is set to become the third Georgia player to enter the transfer portal this cycle. Cornerback Julian Humphrey and wide receiver Michael Jackson III have already entered, while wide receiver Nitro Tuggle initially announced plans to transfer but ultimately decided to stay. Dismissed defensive back David Daniel-Sisavanh is also in the portal, seeking to continue his career elsewhere.

Tigers land in top three for elite 2023 DT from North Carolina

The Tigers were listed in the top three for 2023 defensive line target Jamaal Jarrett.

2023 defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett released his top three schools on Sunday, one of which was the Auburn Tigers. The two other schools listed were Georgia and North Carolina.

Jarrett has been a priority target for the Tigers coaching staff in the 2023 recruiting class. He is regarded as a four-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. Jarrett is listed at 6-foot-6 and 350 pounds. The North Carolina native recently took an official visit to Auburn on June 3rd. He also took official visits to North Carolina (May 20th) and Georgia (June 10th).

At Grimsley High School, he also does shot put and discus. The monstrous recruit is high on the Tigers. Here is what Sports Illustrated’s John Garcia had to say on a Locked On Auburn podcast regarding Jarrett’s interest in the Tigers:

“Auburn’s been a school that he’s been mentioning pretty early when you talk to him back in January and February and that consistency helps with the Tigers,” Garcia said. “He took an official visit and got a more intimate look at the program and really, it’s becoming an SEC race at the top with Auburn and Georgia vs staying at home and playing for North Carolina.”

With his size, the Tigers could use him in a variety of different roles. Defensive line coach [autotag]Jimmy Brumbaugh[/autotag] is really high on Jarrett. He would be a massive addition to the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class. He is set to announce his commitment on July 19th.

UNC lands in final three for top 2023 in-state defensive lineman

The UNC football program made the top-three for the top in-state player in the 2023 class, Jamaal Jarrett.

The UNC football program continues to be a top team on the recruiting trail under Mack Brown and that continued this weekend by being included in a top defensive tackles top list.

2023 four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag] trimmed his list to three programs and announced a decision date on Sunday. His list now includes North Carolina, Georgia and Auburn and he will make his announcement on July 19.

Jarrett is the No. 50 overall prospect in the Rivals250 class of 2023 rankings and is the No. 2 defensive tackle.

From Grimsley (NC) High School, Jarrett broke down his connection with the UNC staff with On3.com.

“North Carolina is home to me (literally),” Jarrett said. “Chapel Hill has been supporting me since the beginning of this process. In fact they were my first offer. I love how Coach Cross takes care of his defensive lineman and how UNC provides so much love and care for their athletes especially “their in-state“ guys.

“On my visit me and my family felt the vibe they were trying to get off and we could tell they really loved us. I’ve visited this place so many times I could give people tours. UNC is so close to home that I’d be able to visit and be able to check on my family if anything were to happen. UNC is a top contender in my recruitment because of the strong coaching staff and them being “home’.”

North Carolina has made Jarrett a priority since his recruitment started. The Tar Heels were the first offer for the 6-foot-5 lineman.

One additional piece to the puzzle that could help the Tar Heels in Jarrett’s recruitment is current freshman at UNC, Travis Shaw. Shaw and Jarrett were teammates at Grimsley before Shaw enrolled at North Carolina.

Jarret has taken visit to North Carolina in back-to-back months.

UNC currently has six commits in its 2023 class

The list of upcoming official visits for Auburn

A huge weekend is on the horizon.

On Wednesday, 2023 offensive tackle Ian Geffrard announced that he would be visiting the Plains from June 3rd-5th. It will be his first official visit since being offered in August of 2021. It will be the third trip that he has taken overall to Auburn.

Geffrard is regarded as a three-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is listed at 6-foot-6 and 350 pounds. Geffrard attends Whitefield Academy in Mableton, Georgia. Several programs that have offered him thus far are Mississippi State, West Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, and Arkansas.

As it stands, the Tigers only have two commitments in their 2023 recruiting class. The two are four-stars Bradyn Joiner and Terrance Love. Joiner, an offensive guard, is the lone offensive lineman in the Tigers class thus far. It is evident that the coaching staff is in search of some protection off the edge. The staff has offered 23 offensive tackles in the class and several of them have already made visits to the Plains. Now, it appears that the Georgia native has become a priority.

Geffrard isn’t the only high-priority target coming to Auburn. The full list of visits coming this weekend:

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with one of Clemson’s top defensive tackle targets in the class of 2023 – Grimsley High School (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Jamaal Jarrett – to get the latest on his recruitment and where things stand with the Tigers.

The 6-foot-6, 350-pound rising senior remains in touch with members of Clemson’s staff, including defensive tackles coach Nick Eason, defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin and head coach Dabo Swinney.

“Me and Coach Eason, Goodwin, and Swinney have really just talked about getting my family up there and making my OV (official visit) pretty much,” Jarrett told TCI. “It’s always cool on the phone with them, but they’ve really just been in contact, and I’ve been checking in on them about my visit.”

Jarrett told TCI that he plans to officially visit Clemson from Sept. 9-11, the weekend the Tigers play Furman at Death Valley on Sept. 10. He went to North Carolina for an official visit this past weekend, and up next for him is an official visit to Auburn from June 3-5.

As for when the highly regarded defensive lineman might make his college decision, Jarrett said he is “still figuring it out.”

“Maybe before or after my senior season,” he added regarding his commitment timeline.

On April 21, Jarrett dropped a list of his top five schools featuring Clemson along with Auburn, Georgia, LSU and North Carolina. Texas A&M offered after he announced those top schools and is in contention as well.

Where do the Tigers stand with him at this point in his recruiting process?

“Clemson is still up there for sure,” he said. “I just want to get to know them more and have my family evaluate them as well.”

Jarrett is ranked as high as the No. 16 defensive lineman and No. 130 overall prospect in the 2023 class by 247Sports, which considers him the third-best prospect in North Carolina regardless of position.

Four-star 2023 recruit sets official visit to UNC Football

This four-star UNC football recruiting target has set his official visit date to the Tar Heels for a weekend in May.

The recruitment for four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag] is starting to heat up here as Summer is upon us. The Greensboro, North Carolina native is one of the top players in the state and is high on Mack Brown’s list for the 2023 class.

But he’s also high on a few other teams including Georgia who appears to be the early frontrunner in the recruitment.

The good news for UNC is that they have the chance to sway Jarrett and a make another good impression this Summer. Jarrett revealed on Tuesday that he has set an official visit date to North Carolina for May 20th-22nd:

Taking these official visits, it does suggest that Jarrett’s recruitment is likely hitting the home stretch. He has visits to Auburn (June 3) and Georgia (June 10) lined up as well and currently that’s all left on the slate.

These three appear to be battling it out for the 6-foot-6, 350-pound defensive lineman and it’s a battle that we will be watching closely over the next few weeks.
