One of Oklahoma’s top defensive lineman got in trouble early Wednesday morning.

Jalen Redmond is set to start or be right in the thick of things at defensive tackle with LaRon Stokes. He redshirted his freshman season after suffering from blood clots before showing a ton of promise his second year for the Sooners.

At 3:34 a.m. CT Wednesday morning, Redmond was booked into the Cleveland County Jail for a DUI. Norman, Oklahoma, the home of the University of Oklahoma, is located in Cleveland County.

Sooners Wire reached out for comment from Oklahoma football at 8:52 a.m. Wednesday morning, but has not received anything yet.

This is Redmond’s first legal offense since arriving at Oklahoma out of the 2018 recruiting class. This is Oklahoma’s first player to get in any sorts of legal trouble this offseason.

He made 23 tackles in 2019 with 13.5 tackles for loss and and 6.5 sacks. Redmond played in 13 of the 14 games.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.

Oklahoma DL Marcus Hicks reportedly hurt in fall camp, per multiple reports

The injury bug is hitting Oklahoma hard as another Sooners defender has reportedly gone down within the first week of fall camp.

The injury bug is hitting Oklahoma hard during its fall camp ahead of the 2020 season.

Linebacker Caleb Kelly had gone down earlier in the week, as well as quarterback Tanner Mordecai, who was battling with Spencer Rattler to be the starting quarterback for the Sooners.

This time, it’s the defensive line getting hit.

According to a report from SoonerScoop.com, redshirt freshman defensive lineman Marcus Hicks went down with an Achilles injury. It was later confirmed by Sports’ Illustrated Oklahoma affiliate AllSooners.

Hicks came to Oklahoma out of the star-studded 2019 recruiting class. He chose the Sooners over a host of the top schools including Michigan.

It was expected for Hicks to provide quality depth this year at the defensive tackle position LaRon Stokes and Jalen Redmond play before making a bigger impact in 2021. Depending on the length of this injury, it could be another year spent training and in the weight room for the former four-star defensive lineman.

Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley has yet to comment on any injury so far in fall camp.

Trey Sermon, Jalen Redmond and Jon-Michael Terry to be out for spring football, others limited

Lincoln Riley announced who will be limited and who won’t be going through spring football on Monday. More than handful were included.

Lincoln Riley announced who will be limited and who won’t be going through spring football on Monday.

Riley kicked off the 2020 spring with a press conference, and announced over a handful of guys who will miss time or miss the whole spring.

Nik Bonitto, Marcus Major, Delarrin Turner-Yell and Justin Broiles will be limited during the early portion of spring. Bonitto and Turner-Yell were major pieces of Alex Grinch’s defense in 2019.

“Some of those guys are recovering from some things that happened during the season,” Riley said. “Nothing serious. All guys that we expect to have sooner rather than later here in spring ball.”

Among the guys listed out for the spring, Trey Sermon, Jalen Redmond and Jon-Michael Terry were starters at some point in 2019. Theo Howard, a graduate transfer from UCLA, arrived to Oklahoma in Jan, but will miss the spring according to Riley.

“So all expected, all those guys are doing well,” Riley said. “All those guys will be full participants in our next offseason period after spring ball, and all four of those guys are doing extremely well.”

This will open the door for returning players like David Ugwoegbu, Kori Roberson, Woodi Washington, Jeremiah Criddell to get much needed reps and get a chance to prove their worth ahead of the 2020 season.

Oklahoma’s spring practice begins on Tuesday. The Sooners spring game is set for April 18 at 5 p.m. CT.

Oklahoma commit Reggie Grimes performing well at Polynesian Bowl

With multiple departures this week, Oklahoma’s defense still has a bright future.

With multiple departures this week, Oklahoma’s defense still has a bright future.

Reggie Grimes, a four-star 2020 defensive end from Brentwood, Tenn. (Ravenwood High School) has shown out at the Polynesian Bowl.

Day three of Polynesian Bowl practices commenced Thursday and Rivals pinned him as one of the top performers of the day.

Grimes was our pick as the top defensive player of the day. When you’re talking about a player that can get off the ball, Grimes is your guy.” Rivals’ Greg Biggins said. “His first step is lightning quick and he explodes off the edge. The thing we like about him is he can beat a tackle with more than just a speed rush. He’s good with his hands, knows how to set up a tackle and flashed a quick outside-in move and a strong bull rush today as well.

Biggins even went on to say that the Sooners should expect high production from Grimes.

Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 240 pounds, Grimes’ measurements are eerily similar to current Oklahoma pass rusher, Jalen Redmond. With Oklahoma needing a stronger and deeper front seven, Grimes could be exactly what the Sooners need.

The Polynesian Bowl is a high-school all-star game and will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 5p.m. CT.

It appears one of Oklahoma’s rising young defensive lineman will return to the field this week.

Redshirt freshman Jalen Redmond did not make the trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma, last week for Bedlam due to ‘medical reasons’, head coach Lincoln Riley said at his weekly press conference Monday.

Riley said the issue did not pertain to the blood clots Redmond suffered his freshman season.

Ahead of the Big 12 Championship game against No. 7 Baylor, Redmond is going though warmups and appears to be ready to play today.

The Midwest City, Oklahoma, native made a start against TCU on Nov. 23 before sitting out last week against Oklahoma State. Redmond has recorded 16 tackles on the season, which includes seven tackles for loss and four sacks.

LaRon Stokes, the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year, started once again in Redmond’s absence against Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma and Baylor will kickoff the Big 12 Championship at 11 a.m. CT from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Other Sooners that picked up honorable mentions include Pat Fields, Reeves Mundschau, Jalen Redmond, Delarrin Turner-Yell and DaShaun White.

Oklahoma led the league in honorees followed by Baylor with 10, TCU (9), Iowa State (8), Oklahoma State (6), Kansas State, Texas Tech, West Virginia (5), Texas (4) and Kansas (2).

Jalen Redmond is ‘questionable’ for Big 12 Championship against Baylor

One of Oklahoma’s rising star defensive lineman was unexpectedly out for Bedlam on Saturday. He is questionable for the Baylor game.

NORMAN, Okla. — One of Oklahoma’s rising star defensive lineman was unexpectedly out against Oklahoma State in Bedlam on Saturday.

Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Jalen Redmond was absent from the Sooners’ warmups prior to the game. Oklahoma football did not make an announcement at the time on his absence.

Head coach Lincoln Riley announced on Monday that Redmond is “questionable” for the Sooners’ Big 12 Championship Game against Baylor.

“Medically, the only thing, Jalen Redmond didn’t travel with us the other night,” he said at his weekly press conference. “It’s a medical decision, totally unrelated to what he went through previously. So he is questionable for this week. That’s it.”

The rising defensive lineman made his second career start against TCU the week prior to Oklahoma State. Behind him is JUCO transfer LaRon Stokes, who has been a solid piece to Oklahoma’s defensive puzzle this season.

It is sure to be a game-time decision for Redmond.

Oklahoma and Baylor will kickoff the Big 12 Championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas,  at 11 a.m CT on FOX.
