Let’s not judge Jalen Milroe just yet

Maybe we need to take a step back when discussing Milroe’s first-ever start as the Crimson Tide QB

A lot of Alabama fans were unhappy with the Crimson Tide’s performance against the Texas A&M Aggies at home in the Week 6 contest, specifically Jalen Milroe. However, I am here to tell you to pump the brakes and highlight the fact that Milroe flashed moments of excellence this past Saturday.

First of all, it can’t be ignored that Milroe had three passing touchdowns in his first career start, against an SEC opponent nonetheless. No matter who you are, that is difficult to do, even if he was 12/19 for 111 yards.

The numbers might not reflect it, but Milroe impressed fans with his arm strength and the zip he has on the ball. Even the interception he threw deep down the field looked like a frozen rope coming out of his hand.

Milroe also dazzled fans with his ability on the ground carrying the ball 17 times for 83 yards. As we saw in the Arkansas game, Milroe possesses game-changing speed that will give any defensive coordinator nightmares. As the offense begins to tailor more to Milroe after Bryce Young leaves for the NFL, we will see a special player.

Going forward, Alabama and Milroe need to clean up some of the mistakes and turnovers, but we can’t expect a perfect game from a kid making his first career start. Once Milroe starts to get more time on the field, I think we will see the next great Alabama quarterback.

Report Card: Grading Alabama’s 24-20 win over Texas A&M

Alabama somehow survived a four-turnover performance to get a 24-20 win over Texas A&M. Let’s take a look at how the Crimson Tide graded out on Saturday night.

Alabama did about everything they could do to lose Saturday night’s matchup with Texas A&M. Turnovers and missed scoring opportunities nearly cost the Tide against the Aggies.

Crimson Tide head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] mentioned in his postgame press conference that the team would need to play better if they had any hopes of being successful next weekend when his team travels to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers.

Each week here at Roll Tide Wire we dish out our grades on all three phases of the game for Alabama and it is now time to see how the Tide faired against Texas A&M.

First..the offense…

Box Score Breakdown: Top performers from Alabama’s win over Texas A&M

Check out the stat leaders from Alabama’s close win over Texas A&M

Alabama wasn’t able to cruise through Texas A&M, but the Crimson Tide still walked away with a 24-20 win. The game was much closer than many expected, which means the team has a lot to work on before heading to Knoxville to face Tennessee.

Star quarterback Bryce Young dressed out, but did not see the field because of a lingering shoulder injury that also sidelined him for the entire second half of the Arkansas game. Jalen Milroe was the only quarterback to take snaps.

Though he was not able to play to Young’s Heisman-winning caliber, Milroe played well.

At the end of the day, the game was a close call because of some sloppy play on both sides of the ball.

Here are the stat leaders from the Crimson Tide’s win over Texas A&M.

5 takeaways from Alabama’s suspenseful victory over Texas A&M

5 takeaways from Alabama’s suspenseful victory over Texas A&M.

For the second year in a row, the Alabama-Texas A&M matchup went down to the final play. This time, however, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Crimson Tide avoided the upset by making a defensive stop as time expired to give Alabama the 24-20 victory.

Without star quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag], the Alabama offense did not play its cleanest game of the season committing four turnovers and allowing the Aggies to hang in the game.

Backup [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag] had his share of ups and downs in a game where he delivered three touchdowns but also three turnovers.

Even the usually automatic [autotag]Will Reichard[/autotag] was a bit off on Saturday night missing two field goals that would have put the game away for the Tide.

Let’s take a quick look at five takeaways from Alabama’s narrow victory over Texas A&M.

What Nick Saban said following Alabama’s nail-biting victory over Texas A&M

Everything that Alabama football coach Nick Saban said following the Crimson Tide’s 24-20 win over Texas A&M.

Alabama head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] looked relieved in his postgame press conference following the Crimson Tide’s nail-biting victory over Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies.

Although it wasn’t pretty, coach Saban is happy that his team found a way to win despite committing four turnovers and missing two field goal attempts that would have put the game away.

Coach Saban would discuss the performance of [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag] in his first career start as well as the performances of [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] and [autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag]. Coach Saban would even address the fact that Alabama will need to be better next week against Tennessee.

Here is everything that coach Saban had to say following Alabama’s 24-20 victory over A&M.

LOOK: Twitter reacts to Alabama’s tight win over Texas A&M

Fans had a lot to say when the clock hit zero and the Crimson Tide walked away with a 24-20 win over Texas A&M.

Top-ranked Alabama hosted Texas A&M for a Week 6 SEC matchup that many fans looked forward to. Despite The Aggies being unranked and both teams starting backup quarterbacks, it certainly did not disappoint.

The Crimson Tide will walk away with a win to remain undefeated, but the final score of 24-20 is too close for comfort for a team that is fighting for national championship No. 19.

With enough time on the clock to run one play from the two-yard line to in it, the Aggies drew up a very questionable pass play that cost the game.

College Football fans took to Twitter to voice their feelings on the game and the Crimson Tide as the team now shifts its focus to Tennessee in a big-time matchup with College Football Playoff.

Here’s what Twitter had to say.

Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe shared a long, heartwarming hug after Alabama narrowly beat Texas A&M

A special moment between two Alabama quarterbacks.

No. 1 Alabama narrowly survived an exciting upset attempt from Texas A&M on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, winning 24-20 in a game that came down to the last play.

But the Crimson Tide defense managed to keep the Aggies out of the end zone, even when the last snap was taken two yards shy of the goal line.

It was an especially big win for the Crimson Tide because they were playing without starting quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, who was injured last week in Alabama’s win over Arkansas and is still experiencing “shoulder soreness in his throwing arm,” per ESPN.

Young was dressed for the game and initially announced as the starter, but freshman quarterback Jalen Milroe — who filled in for Young against the Razorbacks – ended up getting the start. Although Alabama relied heavily on its ground game to beat Texas A&M, Milroe completed 12-of-19 passes for 111 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while running for 83 more yards.

After the Crimson Tide escaped a second consecutive loss to Texas A&M, Young and Milroe found each other on the field and shared a heartwarming and long hug.

The stadium was way too loud to pick up anything these two may have said to each other in that moment, but it was a special moment nonetheless.

Alabama advanced to 6-0 on the season, while Texas A&M dropped to 3-3.

Alabama survives a scare by Texas A&M by defeating the Aggies 24-20

Alabama avoids the upset by defeating the Texas A&M Aggies 24-20.

Well, it wasn’t pretty, Tide fans, but [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide were able to hold off the Texas A&M Aggies 24-20 to remain undefeated on the season.

Alabama’s offense, under the guidance of [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag], could never find consistency and was careless with the football committing 4 turnovers in the contest.

Running back [autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag] was the start of the show for the Alabama offense rushing for 154 yards on 21 carries.

Defensively, Alabama did about all they could considering the precarious situations they were put in throughout the game. In the end, the defense stood tall and prevented the Aggies from scoring the game-winning touchdown as time expired.

The game in itself had a weird feeling in its entirety. Even the usually automatic Will Reichard missed a pair of field goals that would have put the game out of reach for Texas A&M.

At this point in the season and without your star quarterback, Alabama will take the win and move on to the next one.

Milroe is now 7 for 12 for 90 yards and three touchdowns and has added another 79 yards on the ground.

It didn’t take Alabama Twitter long to celebrate the Tide extending its second-half lead over the Aggies.

Twitter reacts to Alabama’s 3-play, 75-yard TD drive

Alabama answers quickly and fans loved it!

Top-ranked Alabama hosts Texas A&M in a game that is riddled with storylines. Despite the Aggies entering the game unranked with all playoff hopes out the window, it’s important for the Crimson Tide to walk away with a win in order to maintain the top seed in the SEC West.

The Crimson Tide struck first with a 10-yard touchdown from Jalen Milroe to Cameron Latu. The Aggies then responded after forcing a Milroe fumble. Alabama answered quickly with a three-play, 75-yard drive to take the lead back.

The most recent Crimson Tide touchdown came on a pass from Milroe into the hands of wide receiver Jermain Burton, who then evaded defenders to walk into the end zone.
