Another member of Florida’s O-line headed out the transfer portal

Another future piece of the Florida Gators offense is on his way out the door, entering the transfer portal.

Another member of the Florida football program has entered the transfer portal. Redshirt freshman offensive lineman [autotag]Jalen Farmer[/autotag] announced his intentions on social media Tuesday afternoon and joins a growing list of departing Gators.

The offensive lineman had many thanks to give in host on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“First I would like to thank God for all the opportunities he’s blessed me with the opportunity to play Division I SEC football while also attending such a prestigious institution,” Farmer wrote. “I would also like to thank my family friends and loved ones that have shown unwavering support throughout my time here at the University of Florida.”

“Lastly I would like to thank all my coaches who have helped develop me into the player I am today,” Farmer continued. “My journey has been full of ups and downs but I look forward to what God has in store in the future. With that being said, I would like to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining.”

Farmer will look for a new home and has three years of eligibility left in his college career. The offensive lineman enrolled to UF in 2022, making two appearances before putting on a redshirt. Farmer committed to Florida when the program was being led by former head coach Dan Mullen.

Big changes made to Florida’s depth chart ahead of Week 3 meeting with USF

The Gators will be down two key starters in Week 3 against the USF Bulls, according to the newest depth chart. Here’s who is replacing them.

Florida’s Week 3 depth chart confirmed what many fans had feared since the conclusion of the Kentucky game last weekend: starting linebacker [autotag]Ventrell Miller[/autotag] and starting right tackle [autotag]Michael Tarquin[/autotag] are out with lower body injuries and no public timetable for a return.

Billy Napier left things at “they won’t play this week” when asked about the severity of the injuries, but he did name their replacements on the weekly depth chart that is provided each Wednesday night before a game.

Redshirt freshman [autotag]Austin Barber[/autotag] is taking over for Tarquin on the right side of the line with [autotag]Kamryn Waites[/autotag] serving as his backup. Waites was previously starting left tackle [autotag]Richard Gouraigae[/autotag]’s backup, but Josh Braun has moved into that role for now.

Braun is best served as a backup guard, but Napier decided that he’s the best option to come in at left tackle with Barber now in a starting role. The new addition to the offensive line rotation is freshman [autotag]Jalen Farmer[/autotag] at right guard.

For Miller, Jeremiah [autotag]Scooby Williams[/autotag] is his listed backup, and the expectation is to see true freshman [autotag]Shemar James[/autotag] get some more snaps as well.

As far as the other injured players go, the same five from last week are still listed with just one exception. Cornerback [autotag]Jaydon Hill[/autotag] has been upgraded from “Out” to “Questionable,” which is an encouraging sign for a player that missed all of last year following ACL surgery. Hill could be back in the next few weeks, which would give the Gators another weapon in the secondary to work with.

Gators coaches plan to visit with OL commit ahead of signing day

A pair of UF staff will visit Jalen Farmer, who has been committed since September but did not sign during the early signing period.

When early signing day wrapped up on Dec. 15, the Gators had a lot of work to do on their 2022 class. However, one upside was the fact that no players that entered the day committed flipped elsewhere, and only one of the committed players didn’t sign.

That player was three-star Covington (Georgia) Eastside offensive lineman Jalen Farmer. The interior lineman committed to Florida back in September, and UF’s new staff managed to maintain his commitment.

They are optimistic he will ultimately sign with the Gators, and to shore things up, assistant offensive line coach Darnell Stapleton (possibly joined by offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Rob Sale) will visit with Farmer on Thursday, according to 247Sports’ Blake Alderman. Farmer took an official visit to Gainesville the weekend of Jan. 14.

UF’s coaches will hope to get the benefit of the last in-person visit with Farmer, who visited Auburn last weekend and is set for a trip to Mississippi State this coming weekend. Both schools also dropped by to visit Farmer, the No. 672 prospect in the 2022 class, this week.

Though he’s far from the highest-rated prospect in Florida’s class, Napier and the staff have prioritized keeping him in the fold, and they will look to stave off late challenges from a pair of SEC schools and earn his signature on Wednesday.

Florida coaches visiting offensive line commit Thursday

Florida’s offensive line coaches are stopping by this commit’s school before he visits Auburn and Mississippi State.

The only Florida commit that didn’t sign during the early period was three-star offensive lineman Jalen Farmer. Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Rob Sale will be making a trip to Covington, Georgia to visit Farmer on Thursday, according to 247Sports.

Sale will be joined by assistant offensive line coach Darnell Stapleton on the visit to Eastside High. Farmer previously met with head coach Billy Napier and strength coach Mark Hocke in December, and he was able to make it to Gainesville the weekend of Jan. 14.

While Farmer did hold off on signing, he’s one of the few commits who stuck with Florida through the coaching change. He committed to Dan Mullen on Sept. 10, but the new staff made a good impression on him quickly. Farmer’s high school coach said that he felt comfortable while visiting Florida and kept mentioning how cool the coaches were.

The 6-foot-5-inch, 325-pounder has looked at other options, though. He took an official visit to Kentucky in December and is set to visit Auburn and Mississippi State in the coming weeks. Losing the No. 34 ranked interior offensive lineman in the 2022 class isn’t something Napier wants right now, so stopping in before Farmer heads to another SEC school for the weekend makes sense.

3-star Gators OL commit sets official visit to Gainesville

Jalen Farmer is the only unsigned commit in UF’s 2022 class.

Three-star offensive lineman Jalen Farmer was the only Florida commit who didn’t sign with the school on early signing day last month. If there was any concern that he was looking to consider other options, a new report may ease them. According to Gators Online’s Corey Bender, Farmer plans to take an official visit to UF on Jan. 14.

The Covington (Ga.) Eastside product is the No. 669 player in the 247Sports Composite, and he’s the No. 32 overall interior lineman. He projects as a guard at the college level, and he’s one of the commits that new coach Billy Napier was able to keep in the class.

Farmer committed to UF back on Sept. 10, and he unofficially visited Gainesville on Sept. 18. He’s only taken one official visit in this cycle, which was to Kentucky on Dec. 10, but he could also take visits to Auburn and Mississippi State, who offered Farmer in January and have been pursuing him since.

A mid-January visit date could put UF in a good position to lock him down, and it will be his second face-to-face meeting with the new staff after he had a home visit with Napier and strength coach Mark Hocke shortly before early signing day.

Florida football snags 2022 offensive lineman Jalen Farmer

Florida has struggled to land offensive linemen in recruiting lately, but they got a commitment from Jalen Farmer on Friday.

2022 offensive lineman Jalen Farmer announced his commitment to the Florida Gators on Friday.

Florida beat out East Carolina and Georgia Tech for Farmer. The Gators hosted the 6-foot-5-inch, 325-pounder in June and August before extending an offer to him on August 1. Rivals rates Farmer as a three-star guard while 247Sports has yet to rate the prospect.

Offensive line coach John Hevesy has led the recruiting effort for Farmer and the two have built a good relationship. After a visit, Farmer raved about Hevesy’s approach to coaching and the program as a whole.

“I loved everything about it,” Farmer said to 247Sports. “It was great working out with them and I learned a lot from coach Hevesy. He liked how aggressive and coachable I was. I love his knowledge of the game, and his fire when it comes to coaching and teaching technique. I liked the competition of the camp and the facilities were a big plus. Everything was great.”

Farmer joins four-star Tony Livingston and three-star David Conner as the third offensive lineman in the Gators 2022 recruiting class. The Gators have scrambled to fill out the line after missing out on prospects such as Tyler Booker and Jacob Hood. Florida’s 2022 class stands at 14 players following Farmer’s commitment.

The newest Gators commit will be in Gainesville next week for the game against Alabama.
