The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are sticking with one kicker.

Reporter Aaron Wilson tweeted on Wednesday that the Bucs waived kicker Jake Verity, who had been on the team since January of 2023. With Verity released, the Bucs only have one kicker on the roster in K Chase McLaughlin.

Verity has been on four NFL teams since coming into the NFL in 2021, and he’ll be looking for a fifth one after the Bucs waived him. Verity has never kicked in a regulation NFL game, but he has kicked in the preseason for the Ravens and Colts, going 6-7 across both tenures.

The Bucs will stick with McLaughlin, who last year kicked at an 83.3% clip with a long of 54 yards.

What to know about Bucs kicker Jake Verity

Here’s the rundown on the kicker the Bucs already have on the roster:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have cut Ryan Succop, and as a result, the team will be looking for a new kicker. They could look both in free agency or in the draft, but there exists a third option that the team could explore — one it already has.

The Bucs do have a kicker on the roster as it stands. 25-year-old Jake Verity has played for multiple teams since he first entered the league in 2021, but he’s had some trouble sticking on one. He’s never been on a 53-man roster, but Tampa Bay’s unique situation could change that.

Verity went to college at ECU, and he signed with the Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted in 2021. He finished his career as a Pirate kicking 75.5% on field goals, with his best season coming in 2018 when he made just over 90% of his kicks. He tore his ACL after being signed by the Ravens, and he was subsequently waived by Baltimore in February of 2022. Since then, he’s been on the practice squad for the Colts, the Jaguars and, most recently, the Bucs.

He’s performed admirably in the preseason so far, kicking at 80% with the Ravens in 2021 and 100% with the Colts in 2022 with a long of 53 yards. Verity’s college resume isn’t particularly inspiring for a potential starting kicker, but he may get the chance to compete for a starting job in 2023.

Jaguars claim K Jake Verity off waivers from Colts

The Jaguars claimed Jake Verity from the Colts.

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed kicker Jake Verity off the waiver wire from the Indianapolis Colts on Friday.

Verity spent the entire offseason and preseason up to this point with the Colts on a futures contract. He was battling with incumbent starter Rodrigo Blankenship for the kicker role. When punter Rigoberto Sanchez went down with a torn Achilles, the Colts signed Matt Haack as a replacement and waived Verity.

Verity certainly proved to have some range in his leg but seemed to be more inconsistent than Blankenship throughout training camp and the preseason.

The Colts will be rolling into the regular season with a specialists room consisting of Blankenship, Haack and 2021 Pro Bowler Luke Rhodes.

Colts sign P Matt Haack, waive K Jake Verity

The Colts have their replacement for Rigoberto Sanchez.

The Indianapolis Colts signed punter Matt Haack and waived kicker Jake Verity, the team announced Thursday.

Haack joins the Colts roster after the unfortunate news that starting punter Rigoberto Sanchez suffered a torn Achilles during practice Tuesday when running sprints at the end of the session.

Haack, 28, has been in the league since joining the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State in 2017. He spent four years with the Dolphins before signing a three-year deal with the Buffalo Bills in 2021.

However, the Bills opted to go with Matt Araiza, “The Punt God,” this offseason and Haack was released on Aug. 22.

In order to make room on the roster, the Colts waived kicker Jake Verity, who had been battling with starter Rodrigo Blankenship.
