Scouting report

Via 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins:

A promising offensive line prospect that blends technique, feel, and power all together. Has spent much of his prep career protecting the corner, but body type and skill set suggests that he’ll probably play his best football on the inside. Measured roughly 6-foot-4, 285 pounds spring before senior season. Doesn’t carry much bad weight, which in turn makes him an effective puller as he can quickly get lateral and move people out of the way. Consistently wins with heavy hands and a robust upper half. Also will finish off assignments by rolling his hips. However, will need to keep improving in pass pro if he’s going to reach his full potential. Should be viewed as a multi-year starter in the middle that might be able to hold things down on the outside in a pinch. Will likely need some time to get adjusted to the college game, but has the makeup of a trench player that will find success in a variety of different run-blocking schemes.

He had some big-time offers, too! #GoBlue

Michigan football gained its center of the future.

The Wolverines extended the current No. 1-ranked class in 2024 on Friday by dipping into Ponte Vedra Beach (Florida) for a three-star center. Jake Guarnera is 6 feet, 4 inches and 290 pounds. He is the fifth offensive line pledge of the class. He is rated the No. 457 player overall on the 247Sports composite, the No. 28 interior offensive lineman and the No. 69 player from the state of Florida.

He joins three-star Ben Roebuck, and four-stars Blake Frazier, Andrew Sprague and Luke Hamilton in the class. He made his commitment official to Michigan football according to an edit by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Guarnera chose Michigan football over Florida and Penn State. He also had offers from Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Rutgers and more.

With Guarnera in the fold, the Wolverines are more than 10 full points ahead of No. 2 Ohio State in 2024’s 247Sports team rankings.

Recruiting insider: Jake Guarnera talks why Rutgers football made his top five including possible commitment date

Jake Guarnera on why Rutgers football made his top five.

On Monday, Jake Guarnera announced his final five with Rutgers football making the cut. The three-star offensive lineman is a coveted player from Florida.

A 6-foot-4, 285-pound offensive lineman from Pointe Vedra (Pointe Vedra Beach, FL), Guarnera’s recruitment is winding down to a close.

On Monday, he cut down his list to a final five includes Florida, Michigan, North Carolina State, Penn State and Rutgers. He is a consensus three-star recruit and ranked the No. 18 interior offensive lineman in the nation by Rivals.

The Scarlet Knights have made Guarnera a priority as the offensive line is a huge area of focus in the program’s rebuilding efforts. They join a group of five, Guarnera says, because their approach to him has been unique.

“The way they are recruiting me. They have been the best team that is making me feel like a need and I like the direction Schiano is moving the program,” Guarnera told Rutgers Wire on Tuesday.

“Coach Flats (offensive line coach Pat Flaherty) is also bringing great experience into the program and offensive line development.”

The developing relationship with Flaherty is an interesting one for Guarnera. Having spent two decades in the NFL as a coach, Flaherty is best known for his time as offensive line coach of the New York Giants, where he won two Super Bowl titles.

Getting to know Flaherty has been “good” according to Guarnere.

“I’ve been on Zoom with his a couple times and he has taught me a couple of the drills he teaches the offensive line,” Guarnera said.

Guarnera is uncertain if all five programs will get an official visit. That’s because he plans on committing on April 28.

There are some strong connections to Rutgers as father, Jim Guarnera, played for the program in the 1990s as a defensive lineman. Jake has been recruited by Rutgers for nearly a year as he was offered by the Scarlet Knights in late May.

Rutgers football legacy Jake Guarnera has Scarlet Knights in his top five

Rutgers football is in the top five for Jake Guarnera.

Jake Guarnera has Rutgers football in his recently released top five. A top five from Guarnera that has Rutgers in quite the fight with some of the top programs in the nation.

A guard at the next level, Guarnera is a consensus three-star recruit. He plays his high school football at Pointe Vedra (Pointe Vedra Beach, FL). He is expected to visit Penn State and Rutgers in late June.

He is a a 6-foot-4, 275-pound offensive lineman who has great strength and moves well. Guarnera has the ability to pull, block at the second level and posseses the ability to stand up to the bull rush. He has a good base of strength and a frame that should be able to add quality weight in a college conditioning program.

He posted his top five list on Monday, which included Rutgers among three Big Ten programs:

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Big Ten rival Michigan is the heavy favorite here at 89.3 percent.

His father was Jim Guarnera, who played for Rutgers in the 1990s as a defensive lineman. As for Jake, he was offered by Rutgers football in late May.

In-state IOL target names Florida in top 5, sets commitment date

Things are getting serious between Florida and Ponte Vedra interior offensive lineman Jake Guarnera, as the Gators made his top five on Tuesday.

One of Florida’s recruiting targets on the offensive line narrowed things down to five programs on Tuesday, and the Gators have done enough to make the cut as things get serious down the stretch in the race for Ponte Vedra’s interior lineman [autotag]Jake Guarnera[/autotag].

In addition to announcing Florida, NC State, Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers as his final five, Guarnera marked April 28 as the date he’ll make his collegiate decision. He’s coming off a visit with the Nittany Lions over the weekend, but Florida hosted him twice in one week at the end of March.

Guarnera has an official visit date locked in with Florida for June 23, but that could change depending on what happens at the end of the month. Interstingly, Michigan is the overwhelming favorite to land him with 89.3% odds, according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine.

Those numbers are based on two expert predictions (On3’s version of crystal balls) that came in shortly after the top 10 was announced. If Florida is serious about bringing Guarnera into the fold, now is the time to pull out all of the stops. Getting him on campus for the Orange and Blue Game is a must.

Guarnera is a consensus three-star recruit, ranked as high as No. 17 among interior offensive linemen in the class of 2024 by Rivals.com. The On3 industry ranking, which weights the four major recruiting services to reach a weighted average for each recruit, has Guarnera at No. 642 overall in the class and No. 42 among those in his position group (guards and centers). He’s also a top-100 player in the state of Florida at No. 89.

Michigan football makes top 5 for an OL target

Keep ’em coming! #GoBlue

Michigan football already has three four-star offensive linemen committed in the class of 2024, but the Wolverines aren’t slowing down in trying to bring in the big boys on the offensive side of the line.

On Tuesday, three-star offensive lineman Jake Guarnera cut his list down to five schools and the maize and blue made his top five. Michigan was listed along with Florida, Penn State, Rutgers, and NC State.

The Pointe Vedra (Florida) lineman is the 551st-ranked player in the nation according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Guarnera is the 31st-ranked interior offensive lineman and the 80th-ranked player in Florida.

There are currently two Crystal Ball predictions in for Guarnera and both predict him going to Michigan. One of the predictions is from Steve Wiltfong, the Director of Football Recruiting at 247Sports.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound lineman will announce his commitment on April 28.

Some other notable offers he had were from: Florida State, Miami (FL), Michigan State, and North Carolina.

Gators getting in-state IOL in town for official visit

After more than half a dozen unofficial visits to the University of Florida, interior offensive lineman Jake Guarnera has set a date for his official visit with the Gators.

After stopping by the Swamp twice last week, Ponte Vedra interior offensive lineman [autotag]Jake Guarnera[/autotag] has set an official visit date with the Florida Gators, according to Corey Bender of Gators Online.

“Last weekend of June,” Guarnera said. “I have others scheduled. I’m releasing top schools soon.”

Guarnera has now been to Florida seven times, so it’s not too surprising to learn that the Gators will be getting one of five official visits. The expectation is that UF also makes his top schools given recent developments. The exact dates of his trip are June 23-25.

He holds offers from Florida State, Michigan, Miami and Penn State among others, but it’s Florida that sits in the lead with 40.4% odds to land him, according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine. Guarnera himself says that UF is “very high” on his list.

Proximity has played a big role in Guarnera’s recruitment. Living just 90 minutes from the Swamp, he’s able to stop by whenever he wants and the staff is available. The easy access Guarnera has to the Gators should keep them near the top until the very end.

Right now, Florida is looking at him as a potential center, but Guarenera says he could end up playing guard too.

A consensus three-star recruit, Guarnera is ranked No. 627 overall on the On3 industry ranking and is No. 40 among interior offensive linemen in the class of 2024. The 247Sports composite is a bit more bullish on him at No. 549 overall and No. 31 at his position.

Florida hosting nearby IOL on two visits this week

Two visits in one week sound like a good thing for the Gators in the recruitment of Ponte Vedra interior offensive lineman Jake Guarnera.

The Florida Gators will host Ponte Vedra interior offensive lineman [autotag]Jake Guarnera[/autotag] on Tuesday and Saturday, according to a tweet he sent out Tuesday morning.

Ponte Vedra Beach is only 90 minutes away from the University of Florida, so Guarnera is able to make two trips happen in one week with ease. He’s been a frequent visitor to the Swamp, stopping by on March 18 and in January for a Junior Day. He recently met with the Miami Hurricanes and Michigan Wolverines, but Florida is still his most frequent destination along with North Carolina State.

Swamp247 caught up with Guarnera and discussed Florida’s recruitment of him. Offensive line coaches Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton are his main points of contact at UF, but area recruiter/outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson has also made an impression on him.

Florida is doing the right things to stay high on Guarnera’s list but he admitted that there are other schools pushing a bit harder. He’s yet to release a list of his top schools, so there’s no clear indication of where things stand. It’s hard to imagine the Gators not getting an official visit down the line, though.

All four major recruiting services agree that Guarnera is a three-star caliber talent, but he’s ranked as high as 17th among interior offensive linemen in the class of 2024 and as low as 45th. The 247Sports composite puts him at No. 548 overall and No. 31 at his position.

In-state offensive line prospect to visit Florida in March

A 2024 in-state offensive line prospect is planning another visit to The Swamp, given his close proximity to campus.

When [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] took over the Florida football program, he made sure to emphasize the importance of winning recruiting battles inside the state of Florida. Over 14 months later, Napier is staying true to his word.

[autotag]Jake Guarnera[/autotag], a 6-foot-4-inch, 280-pound offensive lineman from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, recently told On3’s Donavon Keiser that he is planning to make another visit to The Swamp in March after the recruiting “dead period” expires. The three-star prospect cited how close he is to campus, as Ponte Vedra Beach is just a 90-minute drive from Gainesville.

In his latest visit to campus in January, Guarnera was able to spend more one-on-one time with the coaches, received an official campus tour, and made some connections with other Florida Gators prospects. Guarnera highlighted the one-on-one time with coaches, specifically mentioning a 45-minute film session spent with offensive line coach [autotag]Rob Sale[/autotag] where they broke down his high school film.

Despite the proximity to home, the Gators are competing with multiple programs for vying for Guarnera’s signature when the 2024 class puts pen to paper. Along with Florida, programs like Miami and Michigan are expected to receive a visit once the “dead period'” is lifted. Those programs join NC State, North Carolina, Ole Miss and Penn State as others involved in his recruitment.

2024 in-state OL returning to Florida for January visit

Reloading the offensive line is a priority for Florida in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and the Gators are hosting some talented big men later in the month.

Ponte Vedra offensive lineman [autotag]Jake Guarnera[/autotag] is no stranger to the Swamp. He picked up an offer from the Gators last summer and stopped by Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for the season opener against Utah and final home game of the season against South Carolina.

Guarnera’s next trip to Gainesville will come over the upcoming weekend on Jan. 14, according to On3’s Gators Online. He’d confirm those plans on social media on Monday.

This latest trip should be a bit different for Guarnera than those in the past. Florida is far more focused on the class of 2024, with little left to do in the 2023 cycle. Things are getting more serious and every potential interview moment with a coach counts exponentially more than it did a month ago.

Most of Guarnera’s contact is with Florida’s offensive line coaches, Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton. Relationships are important to the high school junior and Florida is doing its best to keep in close contact.

Guarnera holds offers from Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan and Penn State among others. He hasn’t narrowed things down publicly just yet but has acknowledged in the past that Florida’s done well recruiting him and moved up his list.

ESPN is the only major recruiting service that gives Guarnera a four-star grade. They rank him at No. 249 overall and No. 10 among interior offensive linemen in the class. The On3 consensus, which equally weights the four major services, has him as a three-star recruit ranked No. 371 nationally and No. 29 among those in his position group.
