Hook’em snowman in Florida? Texas 5-star WR goes viral in wild winter weather

Texas 5-star commit shares snowy images from Florida.

Snow is sweeping across the southern United States, bringing a rare winter touch to cities unaccustomed to such weather, including Austin. Even parts of Florida, such as Jacksonville, are experiencing snowfall.

Texas wide receiver signee Jaime Ffrench Jr., a standout from Jacksonville, took to social media to share his excitement about the rare weather. Ffrench posted a photo of a snowman with the words “Hook’em.”

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Ffrench is ranked No. 16 overall by Rivals.com. He is considered the No. 2 wide receiver nationally and the No. 3 prospect from the state of Florida. Texas secured Ffrench’s commitment over powerhouse programs like Miami, LSU, and Tennessee. On his official visit to Austin in June, Ffrench was hosted by freshman receiver Ryan Wingo.

The two out-of-state recruits quickly formed a strong bond and it didn’t take long for Ffrench to realize Texas was home. “The people and the coaching staff — they show you why they want you,” Ffrench said. “And what they’ve built as a class is really appealing.”

Where LSU’s 2025 recruiting class ranks after latest commit

Where does LSU’s recruiting class rank after the latest addition?

LSU added to its stellar 2025 class over the weekend, flipping four-star cornerback [autotag]Kade Phillips[/autotag] from Texas. According to On3, Phillips is the No. 7 ranked corner in the country and No. 65 overall recruit.

The Industry Rankings slate Phillips 164th overall, making him the 13th top 200 recruit to join LSU’s class.

With the addition, LSU’s class remained at No. 3 in the nation, but the Tigers closed the gap with Alabama and Ohio State. Just .079 points separate LSU and Ohio State’s classes now.

247Sports agrees with On3, ranking LSU at No. 3 too.

Phillips is LSU’s 16th blue-chip recruit of the class, which ties Ohio State for most in the country.

As far as average recruit rating goes, LSU ranks third, too. Oregon leads the country with an average rating of 92.79, followed by Ohio State at 92.28 and LSU at 91.76.

Flipping Phillips was the second Texas flip of the cycle for LSU. Earlier this summer, the Tigers managed to swing four-star defensive tackle [autotag]Brandon Brown[/autotag].

LSU recruiting is on a roll right now and the Phillips addition keeps LSU in the race for the top overall class. The Tigers are still chasing some of the nation’s top prospects with safety [autotag]Jonah Williams[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag] still on the board.

LSU makes the final cut for 5-star receiver Jaime Ffrench

Jaime Ffrench is set to commit on Aug. 30, and he trimmed his list of finalists down to four teams.

LSU has the chance to add an elite receiver to its 2025 recruiting class when five-star Jacksonville wideout [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag] announces his commitment on Aug. 30.

Competition is stiff for Ffrench, but the Tigers remain in the mix and made his final four schools on Friday. They’re joined by Texas, Miami and Tennessee.

It may be a bit of an uphill battle for LSU to land Ffrench, who ranks as the No. 18 player nationally per both the 247Sports composite and On3 industry rankings. Texas received a 247Sports crystal ball in June, and the Longhorns are a 57% favorite for Ffrench, per On3.

LSU already has commitments from receivers [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag], a five-star depending on which service you look at, and four-star [autotag]TaRon Francis[/autotag]. Now, the Tigers will hope to add a consensus five-star after No. 1 overall receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] decommitted earlier this summer and later flipped to Oregon.

Is LSU within reach of the No. 1 overall 2025 recruiting class?

Can LSU pull off the No. 1 overall class in 2025?

LSU added another blue-chip recruit to its 2025 class on Thursday, picking up a commitment from four-star safety [autotag]CJ Jimcoily[/autotag]. It was another strong addition as LSU nears the end of a big summer on the recruiting trail.

It comes at a position of need too as LSU continues to do work on its secondary.

Jimcoily hails from Lipscomb Academy in Nashville and is listed at 6-3, 210 pounds. According to Rivals, he’s a top five safety in the class.

With Jimcoily aboard, LSU remains in the race for the nation’s top overall recruiting class. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, the Tigers still sit third nationally. The top two classes belong to Ohio State and Alabama, but LSU is prepping to make a run.

A couple of prospects key to the race are five-stars [autotag]Jonah Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag]. The easiest way to boost a class rating is to stock up on five stars at the top. LSU already has three committed, but adding Williams of Ffrench would be huge.

If LSU manages to land just one, LSU is firmly in the discussion for best class in the country.

The depth of the class will also be improved. LSU remains the favorite for three-star defensive tackle Walter Mathis and three-star tight end Mike Tyler. Three stars won’t give the class rating a huge boost, but part of signing the top overall class is signing prospects at a high volume.

LSU is also pursuing four-star safety [autotag]Bryce Fitzgerald[/autotag], which is a name to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.

If LSU cleans up with the prospects mentioned here and pulls off a few surprises when early signing day rolls around, then the No. 1 overall class is within reach.

LSU jumps up to No. 3 in ESPN’s 2025 recruiting rankings

The Tigers have the potential to land an elite 2025 recruiting class.

After getting off to a red-hot start in the 2025 cycle with several consensus five-star pledges, things cooled off a bit for LSU in May and June, when it lost a pair of top commitments.

But that momentum has returned in July with LSU landing several of its top targets, headlined by No. 1 cornerback [autotag]DJ Pickett[/autotag], five-star receiver [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag] and top-100 EDGE [autotag]Damien Shanklin[/autotag].

The Tigers’ class already ranked highly before those pickups, but after recent additions, LSU’s 2025 group has moved up from No. 5 to No. 3, according to ESPN’s team recruiting rankings.

Here’s what ESPN had to say about the 2025 group, which is headlined by No. 1 overall prospect [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag].

Few programs protect their home turf like the Tigers, and they’re taking advantage of Louisiana’s strong talent in 2025. LSU landed commitments from several of the state’s top prospects, including the top-rated offensive player. Running back Harlem Berry, the No. 1 player in Louisiana, has quick feet and home run speed and can be a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Fellow in-state ESPN 300 RB J.T. Lindsey adds more talent to the position and brings a nice blend of speed and power and rushed for over 1,700 yards as a junior.

The Tigers went out of state as well to land Underwood. A rangy five-star quarterback, Underwood has good mobility and natural arm strength while being a poised, decisive passer. He threw for over 3,100 yards with 40 touchdowns to only two interceptions as a junior. When you land one of the premier passers in the class, you also need to make sure you can protect him, and LSU has added several OL prospects to help do that, including ESPN 300 big men Carius Curne, Devin Harper and Tyler Miller. They also are adding some potential future big-play targets, including Derek Meadows. A player bursting with potential, he is a lengthy target at 6-foot-6 with excellent body control. The Tigers won a big battle on the recruiting trail, edging out Oregon and in-state Miami to land five-star athlete Pickett, a rangy and smooth player that could play on either side of the ball but projects to the secondary.

LSU is still trying to close things out with a few of its top targets, and if it could land a player like No. 1 safety [autotag]Jonah Williams[/autotag] or five-star receiver [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag], both of which visited over the weekend, it could find itself ranked even higher in the next update.

Can LSU add a consensus 5-star receiver to its 2025 class?

LSU is looking to add a five-star receiver to its class with Jaime Ffrench taking another visit to Baton Rouge.

LSU’s 2025 recruiting class is loaded at the top. According to the On3 industry rankings, LSU has three five-star commits with QB [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag], CB [autotag]DJ Pickett[/autotag] and RB [autotag]Harlem Berry[/autotag] in the fold.

The Tigers lost a five-star earlier this cycle when receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] backed off his pledge and later committed to Oregon. LSU did a fine job recovering, landing four-star [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag], but LSU could take its receiver class to another level with the addition of composite five-star [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag].

Ffrench is visiting LSU this weekend and the Tigers will hope to make a strong final impression with French’s commitment date approaching next month.

ESPN is the highest on Ffrench, ranking him as the No. 2 receiver in the class. 247Sports and Rivals also consider Ffrench a top-25 overall prospect.

LSU isn’t the favorite by any means. The On3 recruiting prediction machine gives Texas the best shot while the most recent 247Sports crystal ball favors Texas too. Miami is also a factor in the Florida prospect’s recruitment.

At one point, Ohio State’s chances looked pretty good. Earlier this year, three crystal balls were entered for the Buckeyes.

If LSU wants a shot at the No. 1 class in the country, it needs to land Ffrench. The addition would tie LSU with Alabama’s leading mark of four five-stars and increase LSU’s average recruit rating, which leads the country.

Ffrench would also give LSU three blue-chip receivers in 2025, joining Meadows along with Louisiana four-star [autotag]Taron Francis[/autotag].

Texas might be feeling good about this one, but LSU is certainly making a run for Ffrench’s services. He’s scheduled to commit on Aug. 30.

LSU picks up a crystal ball projection for 3-star visiting tight end

Mike Tyler is visiting this weekend, and LSU could be poised to take a tight end from South Carolina’s backyard.

LSU has quite a cast of visitors in town on Friday including two uncommitted five-stars in top safety [autotag]Jonah Williams[/autotag] and receiver [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag].

The Tigers will hope for an impactful recruiting weekend, but they already find themselves in a strong position for one of Friday’s visitors as they look to steal a three-star tight end from South Carolina’s backyard.

LSU is playing host to [autotag]Mike Tyler[/autotag], a Columbia, South Carolina, native. Ahead of Tyler’s visit on Thursday, 247Sports LSU insider Sonny Shipp placed a crystal ball for the Tigers to land him. The Gamecocks previously held the lone crystal ball projection, which was placed back in April.

The 6-foot-4 prospect ranks No. 661 nationally and as the No. 32 tight end in the class, according to the 247Sports composite. LSU already has one tight end commitment from legacy [autotag]JD LaFleur[/autotag], and it looks like it could be in a position to add another.

LSU rising in recruiting rankings after landing several commitments this week

LSU’s class took a tumble after some recent decommits, but it’s now on its way back up after a big week on the trail.

LSU’s 2025 class took a hit in the ratings with a couple of key recent decommitments, namely five-star receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] and four-star cornerback [autotag]Jaboree Antoine[/autotag].

It will take some time before the Tigers are pushing for the top class in the country as they were previously, but after landing a trio of commitments this week, they’re back on track.

On Thursday, they landed four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Zion Williams[/autotag], and on Friday, they flipped four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Brandon Brown[/autotag] from Texas while also securing a commitment from four-star, top-100 EDGE [autotag]Damien Shanklin[/autotag].

With those recent additions, LSU’s 15-man 2025 class is climbing back up in the rankings. It now sits at No. 4 in On3’s industry rankings and ranks No. 6 in 247Sports rankings.

The Tigers are still in the mix for a few big-time players that could boost their spot in the rankings. Five-star receiver [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag] is yet to make a decision, while five-star safety [autotag]DJ Pickett[/autotag] will make his decision later this month.

Former 5-star LSU receiver commit Dakorien Moore to make decision on Thursday

The Tigers are still in the mix for Dakorien Moore, who decommitted back in May.

LSU already had one top target making a decision on July 4 in four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Zion Williams[/autotag], and now he’ll be joined by the top receiver prospect on the board.

Five-star receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag], the top wideout and No. 3 overall player in America, is set to choose between LSU, Texas, Oregon and Ohio State. Moore was previously committed to the Tigers, pledging back in August, though he backed off that commitment in May.

Since then, Texas has been seen as the clear favorite, but LSU still has a shot to bring him back in the fold. It hosted him for an official visit on June 7 less than a month after he decommitted, and he’s also officially visited his other four finalists.

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the decision from the Duncanville (Tex.) star will come at 8 p.m. CT. Moore isn’t the only top option LSU has at receiver as it is also pursuing [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag], a five-star receiver from Jacksonville, Florida, among others.

LSU hosting top 2026 receiver in Louisiana for visit on Thursday

The Tigers are looking to lock up one of the state’s top 2026 prospects.

The LSU Tigers are still in the mix for a few elite receivers in the 2025 class, namely recent decommitment [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] and Alabama decommit [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag].

But it’s never too early to focus on landing elite players in future classes, especially when they hail from Louisiana, and the Tigers will host the top receiver in the state for the 2026 cycle on Thursday.

[autotag]Jabari Mack[/autotag], a Destrehan prospect, announced on social media that he’ll be visiting Baton Rouge. Mack has received a number of high-profile offers this spring and camped with Texas A&M earlier this month.

The rising junior ranks as the No. 71 player nationally (No. 8 receiver) and the No. 6 overall player in the state of Louisiana.

Mississippi State is currently favored to land him per the On3 recruiting prediction machine, but the Tigers aren’t far behind. They’ll hope this week’s visit makes an impact on the star Louisiana prospect.
