Former Georgia DB coach joins the Buffalo Bills’ coaching staff

Former Georgia, Miami defensive backs coach is headed to the NFL

Former Georgia football defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae has reportedly accepted a similar role with the Buffalo Bills. Addae will coach cornerbacks in Buffalo as the latest college coach to head to the NFL.

College football’s challenging calendar, the transfer portal, and name, image and likeness licensing makes the NFL a more attractive destination for college coaches. Last offseason, Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken became the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator in another example of coaches preferring the NFL to college.

Addae coached at the University of Miami from 2022-2023 under head coach Mario Cristobal after his stint with Georgia. Addae won a national championship at Georgia in 2021 after previously serving as the defensive backs coach at West Virginia.

Jonathan Jones reported the former Georgia defensive backs coach was headed to the NFL via social media:

Georgia lost another defensive backs coach this offseason when Fran Brown left to become the head coach at Syracuse.

John Butler departs as Jahmile Addae, Christian Taylor added to Bills defensive coaching staff

John Butler departs as Jahmile Addae, Christian Taylor added to #Bills defensive coaching staff:

Sean McDermott’s defensive coaching staff has two new faces added to it, meanwhile, another longtime coach has left.

The team has announced that Jahmile Addae and Christian Taylor have been named cornerbacks coach and and defensive quality control coach, respectively:

With Addae and Taylor being added, the Bills have also reportedly mutually parted ways with John Butler. He was previously Buffalo’s defensive backs/defensive passing game coordinator, Butler has been on McDermott’s staff for the past six years.

Addae, 39, spent the past two years as secondary coach for the University of Miami. He held the same role at Georgia in 2021. He previously was an assistant with the San Francisco 49ers as well.

Taylor’s first stop in the NFL will be with the Bills after holding a slew of different positions around the college game. Most recently, Taylor served as Williams & Mary’s offensive coordinator/ running backs coach. Like McDermott, Taylor’s alma mater is William & Mary.

Bills Wire will provide all coaching and roster updates throughout the 2024 offseason.

Georgia DB coach Jahmile Addae leaves for Miami job

Addae is headed to Miami…

Georgia defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae has reportedly accepted the same position at the University of Miami under new head coach Mario Cristobal.

247Sports ranked Addae as the second-best recruiter of the 2022 cycle after pulling in two five-star defensive backs among other top-rated recruits in Georgia’s No. 3 ranked class.

Addae spent one season with the 2021 National Champions after serving in the same role at West Virginia.

Georgia safety and former Mountaineer defensive back, Tykee Smith, gave his thoughts on Addae’s decision:

Cristobal lost wide receivers coach Brian McClendon to Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart just a week ago and now, the two programs once again are linked as Addae, a Valrico, Fla., native goes to the Hurricanes.

If there is one position coach the Bulldogs could lose without a hiccup, it’s at defensive backs. Smart and co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp are widely known as two of the best secondary developers in all of college football.

Even so, Smart will be looking to fill his third coaching void since winning the title.

Addae sent his thinks to DawgNation in a tweet on Tuesday:

6 coaches Brent Venables should consider for Sooners’ vacant defensive backs job

As the Oklahoma Sooners continue to build their coaching staff, here are six names they should consider to be their next defensive backs coach.

The Oklahoma Sooners seem pretty much complete in overhauling their defensive coaching staff after none of the position coaches from the previous regime are set to return.

Only two coaching vacancies remain as defensive ends, safeties, and linebackers are all accounted for. Cornerbacks and a coach for their interior defensive line are all that remains.

We’ll look at the cornerback position to try to piece together some viable candidates.

Georgia football hires former WVU DB coach Jahmile Addae as its new DB coach.

Dawg Nation has made a big time addition to its coaching staff.  Jahmile Addae, who spent the past two seasons as the West Virginia defensive backs coach has officially been hired as Georgia’s newest defensive backs coach.

Addae started at safety for four seasons with the Mountaineers during his collegiate years from 2002-05. believe it or not he matched up against the Dawgs in the Sugar Bowl matchup in the ‘05 season against Georgia.

West Virginia led the nation in pass defense last season, allowing just 159.6 yards per game.  Addae will replace Charlton Warren at Georgia who left after just two seasons to become defensive coordinator at Indiana.

On paper this is a very strong hire for the Bulldogs who will be without members of their core secondary who have declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.
