Husker receiver Jahmal Banks praises QB Dylan Raiola in win

Jahmal Banks had a big hand in Saturday’s victory over UTEP.

Nebraska wide receiver Jahmal Banks saw something special in quarterback Dylan Raiola during Saturday’s 40-7 victory over UTEP.

Banks did his part to contribute to the win. He tallied four catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 15.3 yards per catch, and his longest catch of the afternoon was 21 yards.

Raiola also played a big part in the victory. He recorded 238 passing yards and two touchdowns on 19-of-27 passing. The freshman did not play like one, leading the Huskers to 507 yards of total offense.

Banks praised the signal-caller following the victory.

“It’s about trust. It was conversations we’ve had, practices we’ve had. We just went and got it. As far as it being about us, that’s just what we do. That’s what we train for, that’s what we sacrifice and suffer for, is moments like that to just go execute, so we did it.”

The Raiola-Banks connection will undoubtedly be a key part of the Nebraska offense moving forward. It will be interesting to see what they do next Saturday for a follow-up act.

WATCH: Jahmal Banks leaps into air for TD grab to end half

Jahmal Banks was able to grab his first touchdown of the season.

Nebraska football dominated UTEP offensively in the first half, and the exclamation point was put on the half by a touchdown catch courtesy of Jahmal Banks.

Banks transferred to the program in January and was thought to be a big-play threat. He showed that on this touchdown, leaping over his defender for the score. The touchdown gave Nebraska a 29-7 lead following the extra point.

Banks had his fingerprints on this game at the half, recording three catches for 48 yards. The touchdown was Raiola’s second of the half, and he went into the locker room with 192 passing yards.

It will be interesting to see Nebraska’s offensive approach in the second half. The Huskers’ running game has been working well, but there’s no denying that the Nebraska passing attack is a legitimate threat.

Nebraska Football Countdown to Kickoff: No. 4 Jahmal Banks

The countdown until August 31 is down to four days.

Four days. Just four days remain until the beginning of the 2024 Nebraska Cornhuskers season. Matt Rhule and his Huskers are in the midst of their gameweek preparations for the UTEP Miners and here on Cornhuskers Wire, we continue to countdown the days until toe meets leather.

With four days remaining until kickoff, Nebraska wide receiver Jahmal Banks is in the player spotlight. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound wide receiver is in his first year with the program after making the move to Lincoln after spending the first part of his collegiate career with Wake Forest.

Banks this fall will be one of the Huskers starting wide receivers alongside fellow tranfer Isaiah Neyor and Janiran Bonner. The Washington, D.C. native will be expected to be one, if not the Huskers top wide receiver this fall.

Nebraska countdown to kickoff profile: No. 80 Jahmal Banks

The countdown to kickoff for the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ 2024 season is down to 80 days.

Only 80 days remain until the beginning of Nebraska’s 2024 season against the UTEP Miners on August 31. With that, the daily countdown until kickoff here on Cornhuskers Wire takes a look at Huskers newcomer, wide receiver Jahmal Banks.

The senior wide receiver transferred into the program this offseason after spending the first four years of his collegiate career at Wake Forest.

He was listed as a three-star prospect by each of the three-major recruiting services at the time, selecting the Demon Deacons over offers from Army, Columbua, Elon, Harvard, Kent State, UMass, Princeton, Rutgers, Towson, William & Mary, and Yale.

The Washington, D.C. native was a major part of the Demon Deacons offense each of the last two years, totaling 59 receptions for 653 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 42 receptions for 636 yards and nine touchdowns in 2022. For his career at Wake Forest, he totaled 107 tackles 1,404 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Now, a part of the Huskers offense, Banks is expected to take over a major role as the Huskers No. 1 wide receiver. He’s not the only newcomer to the wide receiver room as Isaiah Neyor, also entered the program this offseason after spending time at Wyoming and Texas.

Every player transfering to Nebraska for 2024

Since becoming Nebraska’s head football coach, Matt Rhule has not been afraid to use the transfer portal.

Since becoming Nebraska’s head football coach, Matt Rhule has not been afraid to use the transfer portal. 2024 has already seen six players commit to the Cornhuskers.

The Huskers currently rank 20th in On3’s 2024 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Nebraska has also seen ten players depart the program since the portal opened at the end of the regular season.

Four of the six incoming players come from the offensive side of the ball, with three of those players coming from skill positions. Coach Rhule has previously discussed the types of players he looks for in the transfer portal.

“The portal for me, I either want to get someone with multiple years, no matter the position, that’s on caliber with the guys we have. Or someone who is an instant impact upgrade. Someone who can make a difference.”

You can find a complete list of all six commits below.

Another Power Five wide receiver is transferring to Nebraska.

Another Power Five wide receiver is transferring to Nebraska. Jahmal Banks from Wake Forest announced on Twitter he is transferring to Nebraska for his final year of eligibility.

Banks played four seasons for the Demon Deacons before hitting the portal back in December 2023. Before Nebraska, the 6-foot-4, 205-pounder took trips to Wisconsin, Purdue, Notre Dame, Minnesota, and Michigan.

The former three-star prospect played in 44 games at Wake Forest and became a full-time starter last season. In the past two seasons, Banks hauled in 101 catches for 1,289 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Banks now joins a packed wide receiver room at Nebraska, joining Malachi Coleman, Jaylen Lloyd, and Jeremiah Charles, along with newcomers like Texas wide receiver Isaiah Neyor.
Along with Neyor, Banks also joins the growing number of transfers Nebraska picked up this offseason. Other transfers include running back Dante Dowdell of Oregon and offensive guard Micah Mazzccua from Florida.

Huskers offer transfer portal wide receiver

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have extended a scholarship offer to a wide receiver in the transfer portal.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have extended a scholarship offer to a wide receiver in the transfer portal. Jahmal Banks spent the last four years at Wake Forest, and he will reportedly have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound wide receiver made 59 catches for 653 yards and four touchdowns in 2023. He’s appeared in 43 games for his career, making 107 catches for 1,404 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Michigan football offers towering wide receiver target via transfer portal

Another big-time transfer target got a #Michigan offer. #GoBlue

Michigan football is searching the portal for a big-bodied ‘X’ receiver to work the outside next season. They have an offer out to former Indiana receiver Donaven McCulley and added to their target list today by extending an offer to Jahmal Banks from Wake Forest.

Banks stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs just over 200 pounds which makes him an ideal candidate for the outside role. Cornelius Johnson has been playing the ‘X’ spot for Michigan for the past few seasons but is a couple of inches shorter and never quite presents the vertical mismatch that Banks does. Johnson is departing for the NFL draft after this season and it appears Michigan wants to get a Nico Collins-type player on the roster to help with 50/50 balls.

Assuming Michigan can land Banks, the outside receiver spot would be in an interesting predicament. Banks would likely start as the most experienced player by far, but Darrius Clemons would be put essentially on the bench for yet another season. The former top recruit has a lot of potential but has struggled to realize it so far. Bringing in Banks or another one-year rental might signal the end of Clemons’s time as a Wolverine, making it a move that prioritizes short-term success over a long-term project.

Banks caught 59 passes for 653 yards and four touchdowns last season. In his four-year career, he has 107 catches for 1,404 yards and 13 touchdowns. Banks is a very consistent target and hauled in either five catches or 40 yards in every game but one this year. He is a reliable chain mover whose long frame presents a massive target for QBs targeting any portion of the field. His size could be especially useful in goal-line situations by throwing back shoulder fades, a route that Michigan has not targeted in the past years.

Banks currently holds a portal grade of .9000 from 247Sports, making him the 61st highest-rated player in the portal and the 15th highest-rated receiver.

Wake Forest statistical leaders through 10 games

Here’s who could give the Irish trouble.

This has been a rough season for Wake Forest. After winning their first three games, the Deacons have lost six of their past seven. Their bowl hopes rest on whether they can win their final two games or at least one on the outside chance that there aren’t not enough six-win teams. Regardless, it’s not a great situation to be in.

Notre Dame isn’t going to take it easy on the Deacons just because they’re struggling. If anything, the Irish will be on a mission to improve their own bowl resume. No, it won’t be a bowl the casual college football fan cares about, but it would be nice for them to play when most people aren’t at work.

The Deacons have a tall order in trying to salvage something of this season, but they’ll try to do so anyway. Here are the players who can help them do that:
