Sooners picked to flip 2025 4-Star in-state tight end

Oklahoma are making waves in a talent in-state kid who is committed to Notre Dame.

While most people are still focused on the 2024 class, the [autotag]Oklahoma Sooners[/autotag] continue to make moves in 2025. Right now the Sooners have four commitments but that could be five if [autotag]Jaden Nickens[/autotag] commits on Saturday.

After four-star tight end, [autotag]Davon Mitchell[/autotag] reclassified to 2024, the Sooners are working to find their 2025 tight end. That has led them back to familiar territory.

The Sooners have not given up on the [autotag]Notre Dame Fighting Irish[/autotag] commit and Washington, Oklahoma native, [autotag]Nate Roberts[/autotag]. Roberts is a big-time tight end target standing at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds.

He ranks No. 61 nationally and second at his position after finishing his sophomore season with 33 receptions for 705 yards and 11 TDs. He averaged an incredible 21.4 yards per catch. Roberts helped Washington to a 15-0 record and an Oklahoma 2A state championship.

His older brother Jake Roberts was a tight end at North Texas Mean Green but transferred to play for the Baylor Bears this season. One thing going in Oklahoma’s favor, 2025 Oklahoma quarterback commit Kevin Sperry has been throwing to Roberts this summer which sparked the flip rumors.

Those rumors only escalated when SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuistion flipped his pick from the Irish to the Sooners. If [autotag]Joe Jon Finley[/autotag] can pull that off, you are looking at two elite tight end prospects in back-to-back classes.

There is still some work to be done obviously. Flipping a commit is not an easy task. But it’s one this staff has had success with.

Combine that with the kid being an in-state prospect and the Sooners are sitting in a good spot to get his commitment.

Sooners pick up a pair of predictions for Jaden Nickens, who sets commitment date

Oklahoma earned two more predictions for 2024 four-star WR Jaden Nickens out of Millwood High in Oklahoma City, who set his commitment date.

Less than a month from the start of the 2023 season, the Oklahoma Sooners keep pushing to add talent across the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes. Getting a head start on 2025, the Sooners already have four players committed to join Oklahoma in a year and a half.

After picking up a commitment from 2024 four-star wide receiver and in-state product Elijah Thomas last week, Oklahoma is trending for another blue chip WR from the Sooner State, Jaden Nickens.

The Sooners picked up a pair of predictions from Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop and On3 and Brandon Drumm of OUInsider and Rivals on Saturday. Those predictions continue to roll in, with Collin Kennedy of Sooners Illustrated and 247Sports and Parker Thune of OUInsider issuing picks favoring the Sooners.

At this point, it seems all that’s left to do is get the commitment. And now we know what day Jaden Nickens will be making his pledge.

The four-star wide receiver prospect out of Millwood High School in Oklahoma City plans to commit on August 12.

According to On3, Nickens holds Power Five offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and TCU.

At 6-foot-3 entering his junior year, Nickens brings great size to go with good breakaway speed. He’s an impact blocker in the run game, putting cornerbacks on their backs, allowing running backs to pick up big plays.

He does a lot of good work in the wide receiver screen game and has a good idea of how to use the blockers on the play to gain extra yards. He’s a physical player that will break tackles in the open field but also has the agility to make defenders miss.

To say that Emmett Jones is on a role would be an understatement. With what he’s done on the recruiting trail, it’s no surprise to see Oklahoma trending for yet another wide receiver.

If the Sooners were to get a commitment from Nickens, he would be their third in the class, joining [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag] and [autotag]Elijah Thoma[/autotag]s and it would represent the 10th wide receiver commitment since Jones took the job in January.

Sooners get two predictions for 4-Star in-state wide receiver

Emmett Jones continues his hot streak on the recruiting trail with two predictions for talented four-star Oklahoma wide receiver.

We’ve talked about how hot the Oklahoma Sooners football recruiting has been the last month, whether it’s the 2024 class or the 2025 class.

A big reason for that has been the absolute roll new wide receiver coach Emmett Jones has been on.

He’s landed seven combined wide receivers in the 2024 and 2025 classes as of now.

As to why he’s been so successful recruiting since joining the staff, his answer was short and sweet and something Sooner fans will love to hear.

“I feel like I can recruit against anybody with this logo,” Emmett Jones said at OU Football media day Tuesday.

But he’s not stopping anytime soon. The Sooners received two predictions for 2025 four-star wide receiver Jaden Nickens.

Brandon Drumm of OUInsider at Rivals and Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop at On3 both issued predictions favoring the Oklahoma Sooners for the talented in-state prospect.

Nickens is a talented wide receiver who plays at Millwood High School in Oklahoma City.

He’s also a big-time basketball recruit with a few Division 1 offers. He’s a big athletic wide receiver standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 170 pounds.

The next question is, could a commitment be coming soon? It’s something he might have hinted at.

But for now, we have to wait and see.

Recruits react on social media to time spent in Norman with the Sooners

How did recruits react on social media to their time spent with the Oklahoma Sooners?

The Oklahoma Sooners hosted a number of prospects across the next few recruiting cycles. This week’s recruiting events have already yielded a commitment with the pledge from Jeremiah Newcombe to the Sooners 2024 class.

These weekends are about furthering recruiting pitches for prospects the Sooners have been recruiting for some time. Additionally, the recruiting events help build relationships with prospects they’re just beginning to recruit as well.

While much of the focus was on the 2024 and 2025 classes, the Sooners looked deep into the future and welcomed 2026 and 2027 prospects as well.

As we do after each of these major recruiting weekends, here’s a look at what some of the prospects had to say after their time in Norman.

‘Future Freaks’ weekend set to be a massive recruiting event for Oklahoma’s present and future

Arguably the second biggest recruiting event of the calendar for Oklahoma will take place this week, with OU hosting its “Future Freaks” day.

Oklahoma has had some major recruiting in the month of March, but none seem as big as the one happening in Norman this weekend.

Officially dubbed “Future Freaks” weekend, Oklahoma plans to host exactly that. The Sooners will be welcoming more than 60 prospects over the next few recruiting classes in Norman.

Oklahoma’s been building momentum for recruiting since landing their top five composite class in 2023. While they have no commitments for 2024, the momentum is building.

Much like a volcano, it’s about to erupt. There’s a real chance the commitment party starts April 8 when Michael Hawkins, Oklahoma’s number one QB target in 2024, will make his commitment.

Oklahoma has plans to keep it pushing forward as they host many talented players this weekend. Here are the players they’ll be hosting over the next three recruiting classes in Norman this week.
