Former Oregon OT JacQawn McRoy announces transfer portal destination

Former Oregon Ducks offensive tackle JacQawn McRoy has announced that he will transfer to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The first member of the Oregon Ducks to enter the transfer portal this season has officially found his new home.

Former Oregon offensive tackle JacQawn McRoy announced earlier this month that he would be entering the portal and leaving the Ducks ahead of their College Football Playoff run. On Thursday, it was announced that McRoy would be committing to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

As an athlete from Pinson, Alabama, it doesn’t come as a major surprise to see him end up closer to home for the next stage of his college career.

McRoy was a 4-star recruit for Oregon in the class of 2024. He was ranked as a 247Sports Top 100 player and Top 10 offensive tackle in his class, and among Oregon’s four O-line commits last year, McRoy was rated the highest.

This season, McRoy didn’t see the field on any gamedays, but considering who Oregon has on their O-line, the freshman’s lack of playing time is understandable. The Ducks O-line is a finalist for the Joe Moore Award (given to the best O-line in college football), and Josh Conerly and Ajani Cornelius — the Ducks’ starting tackles — were both named to All-Big Ten teams this season.

McRoy will work to crack the offensive line rotation with the Razorbacks as a redshirt freshman in 2025.

Oregon OT Ja’Qawn McRoy to enter transfer portal

Oregon Ducks offensive tackle Jac’Qawn McRoy told On3Sports he plans to enter the transfer portal.

After a day full of fireworks for the Oregon Ducks to kick off the early signing window, the Ducks did receive a piece of bad news on Wednesday afternoon. Jac’Qawn McRoy, a freshman offensive tackle at Oregon, plans to enter the transfer portal, according to On3Sports.

With exceptional size at the tackle position, standing at 6 feet 8 inches and weighing in at 375 pounds, McRoy will be an in-demand player this portal cycle — especially with his four years of remaining eligibility. And with quick feet on the edge of the O-line, size isn’t McRoy’s only asset.

During his initial recruitment, McRoy took official visits at Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Colorado. He also took an unofficial visit at Auburn, two hours south of his hometown of Pinson, Alabama. A year later, McRoy could end up anywhere, but look out for those schools as potential landing spots.

McRoy didn’t play this season, but it’s rare for freshmen tackles to see the field anywhere in college football. After this season, Cornelius will be out of eligibility and Conerly — a junior — will be faced with the decision of whether to go to the NFL or return for another year at Oregon. If Conerly declares for the draft, the Ducks will be faced with replacing both of their tackles, and with McRoy leaving the program, Oregon doesn’t have many homegrown options.

SIGNED: 4-star offensive lineman JacQawn McRoy is officially a Duck

The Oregon Ducks officially signed 4-star offensive tackle JacQawn McRoy, adding him to the 2024 class.

When the goal is to recruit offensive tackles who have a huge stature and can move quickly on their feet, getting a commitment from a guy with the nickname “Shaq” is usually a pretty good idea.

That’s what the Ducks did with 4-star offensive lineman JacQawn “Shaq” McRoy, who officially signed his letter of intent on Wednesday, joining the 2024 class. McRoy was rated by 247Sports as the No. 80 overall player and the No. 6 offensive tackle in the nation.

Standing at 6-foot-8, 365 pounds, McRoy is one of the more enticing OTs in the nation, projecting as a staple blindside blocker on the left side.

McRoy went to Clay-Chalkville High School in Pinsonville, Alabama — the same hometown as Oregon QB Bo Nix. He chose the Ducks over schools like Colorado, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Ole Miss.

McRoy ended up taking a late visit to Colorado before signing day, but ultimately he ended up in Eugene with the Ducks.

The Ducks have recruited very well at the offensive line over the last couple of years, but it’s not hard to see McRoy fitting in at one of the tackle spots in the next couple of seasons, though he likely won’t see much time in 2024 with LT Josh Conerly and RT Ajani Cornelius leading the way.

Here’s a look at McRoy’s highlights:

Ducks pick up a pair of predictions to land elite 4-star players in 2024 class

The Ducks picked up predictions to land the No. 60 overall player and No. 175 overall player in the 2024 class on Thursday.

The Oregon Ducks are in the middle of official visit season at the moment, and it appears that things are going swimmingly for Dan Lanning and his staff.

While there are loads of high-end 4-star players and a handful of 5-stars both on campus and expected in Eugene over the coming days, a pair of predictions came in for the Ducks to get commitments from the blue-chip players on Thursday morning.

According to 247Sports’ analyst Steve Wiltfong, the Ducks are trending to land 4-star LB Dylan Williams and 4-star OT JacQawn McRoy.

Williams is rated as the No. 17 LB and No. 175 overall player in the class of 2024, and he took his official visit to Eugene last week. McRoy is expected on campus for his official visit this week, but the 6-foot-8, 365-pounder is rated as the No. 3 OT, and No. 60 overall player in the 2024 class.

The Ducks currently have the No. 8 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle, but if they were able to land both Williams and McRoy, it would bump them up to the No. 6 spot in the nation.

Here is some more info on the two prospects.

Ducks become overwhelming favorite to land No. 3 OT in 2024 class

The Oregon Ducks are trying to get bigger on the offensive line, it appears, and they might be well on their way to achieving that.

Over the past several months, A’lique Terry and the Ducks have been recruiting 4-star OT JacQawn McRoy, the No. 3 ranked OT in the 2024 class. Standing at 6-foot-8, 365 pounds, McRoy would be among the biggest players on the team if he ended up coming to Oregon.

Fortunately for the Ducks, it appears that the possibility could be turning into a reality. A pair of recruiting predictions on On3 came in on Tuesday that show Oregon as the team to beat for McRoy’s commitment. According to On3’s recruiting prediction machine, the Ducks have an overwhelming 92.7% chance to land the OT who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 62 overall player in the 2023 class.

We will see in the coming months whether or not the Ducks can close, but for the time being they seem to be in a great spot.
