Giants signing UFL running back Jacob Saylors

The New York Giants are expected to sign running back Jacob Saylors now that the UFL season has concluded.

Now that the UFL season is officially over, the New York Giants are expected to sign running back Jacob Saylors, who visited the team earlier this month.

Art Stapleton of USA TODAY was the first to report the upcoming transaction.

Saylors, who initially joined the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of ETSU in 2023, spent much of his rookie season on the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons. He was placed on injured reserve (IR) on November 20 and then waived due to injury on January 2.

After being waived by the Falcons, Saylors signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks of a newly-merged UFL (XFL, USFL).

In nine games this season, Saylors rushed for 461 yards, second-most in the league, and scored five touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He added 23 receptions for 152 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

Saylors split carries with and ultimately out-performed former Giants running back Wayne Gallman en route to being named to the 2024 All-UFL Team.

The Giants currently have 91 men on their roster, one under an exemption. A corresponding roster move will have to occur before Saylors’s signing is made official.

Giants hosting Tre Herndon, others for tryouts

The New York Giants are hosting multiple players for tryouts including veteran cornerback Tre Herndon III.

With news of the recent retirement of starting tight end Darren Waller, the New York Giants are trying out several veterans at minicamp this week along with several other veterans at other positions.

Head coach Brian Daboll said the team is always trying to improve the roster and have the luxury of some additional cap space with Waller off the roster.

The Giants already have a full tight end room but there is always room for more. Noah Togiai, who was an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State back in 2017, has played in eight NFL games. Former Mississippi State Bulldog Geor’quarius Spivey is also getting a tryout.

Tre Herndon III, a cornerback with 83 games of experience (34 starts) for the Jacksonville Jaguars, will also get a tryout as will 6-foot-7 offensive tackle Kellen Diesch.

In addition to those tryouts, UFL running back Jacob Saylors is in East Rutherford for a visit.

Giants hosting UFL running back Jacob Saylors for a visit

The New York Giants will reportedly host running back Jacob Saylors, who was All-UFL in 2024, for a visit in East Rutherford on Tuesday.

The New York Giants will open their mandatory minicamp on Tuesday in East Rutherford, New Jersey but that won’t be their only order of business.

In addition to the two-day camp, the Giants will also visit with UFL running back Jacob Saylors.

Following the retirement of tight end Darren Waller, the Giants have one open spot on their 90-man roster.
