Former Clemson offensive tackle Tremayne Anchrum Jr. earned his first Super Bowl championship on Sunday evening, as his Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20, in Super Bowl LVI in Inglewood, Calif.

With Anchrum’s championship this year, Clemson has now produced 32 different members of Super Bowl championship active rosters that have totaled a combined 40 Super Bowl rings.

In all, four former Tigers were on the active rosters of Super Bowl LVI participants, including offensive lineman Jackson Carman, wide receiver Tee Higgins and defensive tackle D.J. Reader. Clemson’s four players on the teams’ rosters were tied for the third-most of any program in the country.

Anchrum played in 55 career games with 37 career starts at Clemson from 2016-19, helping Clemson to three national championship berths and two national titles. He started each of his final 30 games at Clemson over his final two seasons, helping guide the Tigers to a 29-1 record in those games. He was a two-time All-ACC honoree and finished his career as one of only 23 players in Clemson history to play at least 2,500 career snaps from scrimmage.

With Anchrum’s victory, at least one Clemson player has been on the roster of the Super Bowl champions in each of the last four years.

Higgins and Reader both started the contest, marking the second time in the last three Super Bowls that multiple Clemson products have started the NFL’s title game.

Though the effort came in a Bengals loss, Higgins was one of the game’s standout performers. Higgins scored the Bengals’ first touchdown of the contest on a six-yard touchdown pass from running back Joe Mixon. He became the second Clemson player to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl, joining William Perry, who scored on a one-yard touchdown run in Super Bowl XX to conclude the 1985 NFL season.

Higgins later added a 75-yard touchdown reception early in the third quarter. It represented the longest reception in a Super Bowl since Carolina’s Mushin Muhammad scored on an 85-yard touchdown reception in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Higgins finished the game with four receptions for 100 yards, recording the first 100-yard receiving performance in a Super Bowl by a Clemson product and surpassing Sammy Watkins’ 98 yards in Super Bowl LIV for the Clemson record. Higgins’ performance was the 51st 100-yard receiving effort in the Super Bowl’s 56-game history, and his two touchdowns marked only the 18th multi-touchdown receiving performance in Super Bowl annals.

Reader registered a sack in the third quarter. It was the second postseason sack of his career and his first since the Wild Card Round to conclude the 2016 season.

Anchrum was a two-time national champion at Clemson and joins Dan Benish, K.D. Dunn, Andy Headen, Terry Kinard, Dorian O’Daniel and William Perry among Clemson players to earn both a national championship ring and a Super Bowl ring.

Bengals rookie Jackson Carman gets huge endorsement from coaches before Super Bowl

The second-rounder would appear to be on the rise before the biggest game of his life.

It has been a wild ride for Cincinnati Bengals second-round pick Jackson Carman.

Carman, selected to help the offensive line in some capacity, either at guard or tackle, was the team’s answer to not selecting an offensive lineman in the first round of this year’s draft, instead opting for Ja’Marr Chase at fifth overall.

But Carman was behind the ball in training camp from the jump, struggling with conditioning and adapting to guard. A veteran teammate even mentioned he showed up overweight.

Slowly but surely, Carman started filling in when the line needed help but failed to break through as a starter for most of the season.

Then he replaced Hakeem Adeniji at right guard in the AFC title game.

Carman wasn’t perfect there, but he did throw a key block in a long touchdown. Fast forward two weeks later, it sure sounds like he might be headed for a full-blown start in the Super Bowl, as captured by ESPN’s Ben Baby:

Even if he doesn’t start, Carman figures to get in on the action at some point, as coaches have talked about liking a rotation to keep things fresh.

No matter who starts, it’s an important moment for Carman during the biggest game of his life. Not only would all involved like to get a win, the performance could tell the team whether or not they need to heavily invest in the same line spots again or trust that Carman will remain on an upward trajectory after a slow start.

C.J. Uzomah, Jackson Carman upgraded on Bengals’ 2nd Super Bowl injury report

Big news for the Bengals before the Super Bowl.

Things look up for a pair of key Cincinnati Bengals players in Super Bowl LVI.

Staring down an unpredictable contest with the Los Angeles Rams, the Bengals weren’t sure if they’d have tight end C.J. Uzomah and rookie guard Jackson Carman.

Thursday’s injury report suggests they will.

That second Super Bowl report upgraded both guys (Uzomah to “limited” and Carman to “full”), marking the first time Uzomah’s practiced since suffering a knee injury in the AFC title game.

Uzomah, who said he won’t miss the biggest game of his life, figures to go limited again before being in his usual No. 1 TE spot for the Super Bowl. Carman, a second-round rookie, replaced Hakeem Adeniji in the AFC title game and struggled at times, but also had a key block on a big touchdown.

Barring a shocking change on the final injury report on Friday, both guys should be able to go.

And for Uzomah, besides the obvious, it’s a big deal because he said he’ll take a swim in Skyline Chili if the Bengals win.

‘There’s gonna be a Tiger being a Super Bowl champ once again’: Swinney talks Tigers in Super Bowl

No matter what happens in Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, Feb. 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., at least one former Clemson football player will walk away from the big game as a Super Bowl champion.

If the Cincinnati Bengals emerge victorious, then rookie offensive lineman Jackson Carman, second-year NFL wide receiver Tee Higgins and sixth-year pro defensive tackle D.J. Reader will all get rings.

And if the Los Angeles Rams come away with the win, then offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum Jr. will end his second NFL season as a Super Bowl champ.

Clemson leads the ACC with four players on Super Bowl rosters, and head coach Dabo Swinney talked about those players Tuesday during a guest appearance on the Packer and Durham show on ACC Network.

“I’ll say this – Jackson Carman, I’m really proud of that young man,” Swinney said. “But Jackson Carman, his freshman year here in 2018, he won a national championship. And Tee Higgins’ second year here in 2018, he won a national championship. So, it’s the second year for Tee in the NFL and the first year, rookie year, for Jackson.

“But man, Jackson’s going to be a great player. Heck of an offensive lineman. He was a second-round pick, came out early. He’s started some for them, and it’s good to see him having some success and making an impact.

“And then you see what D.J. Reader’s done. D.J. Reader’s last year here was 2014. He was on our No. 1 defense in the country that year. What a career he’s had. He’s a great leader. I texted with his mom, Felicia, the other day. I’m really happy for him, just his career. And then same thing with my man Tee. I talked to his mom, Lady, the other day and she’s excited, going to the Super Bowl. But Tee Higgins, a couple huge plays down the stretch there (in the AFC Championship Game vs. Chiefs). And then you’ve got Tremayne Anchrum, he’s the lone guy with the Rams.

“So, no matter how the game goes, there’s gonna be a Tiger being a Super Bowl champ once again. That’s pretty cool for our program.”

With the Cincinnati Bengals defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, three former Clemon Tigers have punched their ticket to the Super Bowl on Feb. 13, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

On the defensive side, D.J, Reader did his thing as well, helping clog up the middle of the field and slow down the potent Chiefs offense.

According to Clemson Google Tim Bourret Carman and Higgins will have a chance to join rare company of Tigers that have won a national championship and a Super Bowl.

No matter which team comes out of the NFC, there will likely be plenty of new Bengals fans on Super Bowl Sunday cheering from the great state of South Carolina.

And then there were five.

Now that Conference Championship week is upon us, only five former Clemson players remain in contention for a shot at winning a Super Bowl.

The AFC Championship Game matchip between the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs will feature four former Clemson standouts, three of whom play for the Bengals.

Cincinnati has a trio of former Tigers on its roster in WR Tee Higgins, DT D.J. Reader and OL Jackson Carman, while linebacker Dorian O’Daniel is Clemson’s lone representative on the Chiefs.

As for the NFC Championship Game between two divisional foes in the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, reserve offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum is the only former Clemson player on either side.

Last year, former Tiger punter Bradley Pinion won himself a ring with the Super Bowl Champion(s) Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Which former Clemson standout has the best shot this year?

Bengals sticking with Hakeem Adeniji over rookie Jackson Carman

Coaches say one guy clearly has an edge.

The Cincinnati Bengals pulled a surprise over the weekend, rolling with Hakeem Adeniji as the starting right guard over second-round rookie Jackson Carman.

From the sounds of it, that won’t change coming out of the team’s bye, either.

Offensive coordinator Brian Callahan told reporters on Tuesday that while the team hasn’t given up on Carman by any means, Adeniji “has the edge” in the competition, per ESPN’s Ben Baby.

It’s again a bit surprising, as the Bengals invested a top-50 pick in an effort to solve a big problem up front and Carman had been getting the first-team reps lately. He did suffer a back injury two weeks ago, though any idea Adeniji getting the start was because of that injury is now invalid.

Adeniji has been a favorite of the staff and is versatile with starter upside, though advanced metrics didn’t like his season debut against the Browns, grading him at a 49.5.

Bengals start Hakeem Adeniji over second-round rookie Jackson Carman vs. Browns

Big move for the Bengals offensive line.

[mm-video type=video id=01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg playlist_id=01eqbw0bft20de1r4d player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg/01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg-42336ce12defd7b7ebc558b112017718.jpg]

A day before the Cincinnati Bengals activated him off injured reserve, we hinted the coaching staff might have big plans for offensive lineman Hakeem Adeniji.

And that they did.

Fast forward to Sunday, it was Adeniji, not second-round rookie Jackson Carman, starting at right guard against the Cleveland Browns.

No word on whether Carman continues to battle issues from the back injury he suffered last week, but the injury report didn’t feature him much and the coaching staff had suggested a change could happen.

Adeniji was a developmental pick for the Bengals in the sixth round of the 2020 draft and has experience at tackle or on the inside. He’s now been a favorite of two different line coaches too, so it’s pretty interesting to think about how he might have fit into the equation had a pec injury over the summer not landed him on IR.

Where this leaves Carman might strictly hinge on whether Adeniji can capitalize on his chance.

Bengals get good update after Jackson Carman injury scare

Good news on the injury front for the Bengals.

[mm-video type=video id=01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg playlist_id=01eqbw0bft20de1r4d player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg/01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg-42336ce12defd7b7ebc558b112017718.jpg]

The Cincinnati Bengals had an injury scare over the weekend during the loss to the New York Jets as rookie guard Jackson Carman had a cart come out after an apparent back injury.

Carman eventually didn’t need the cart to leave the field itself, but it was a scary moment for the player and team.

Fast forward to now though, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has classified the injury as “Day to day. Not serious,” according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.

That’s a big sigh of relief for the Bengals, as it means Carman might be able to play in Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns. He’s been starting at right guard when available and has been on the upswing after some rookie struggles. He’s a key part of the future and if he has to miss time, it’s sixth-rounder Trey Hill who would take snaps with veteran Xavier Su’a-Filo still on injured reserve.

Bengals rookie OL Jackson Carman carted off with injury vs. Jets

The second-round rookie suffered an injury Sunday.

[mm-video type=video id=01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg playlist_id=01eqbw0bft20de1r4d player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg/01fk180eypeyq2fw7jbg-42336ce12defd7b7ebc558b112017718.jpg]

Cincinnati Bengals second-round pick Jackson Carman needed a cart to leave the field in the fourth quarter of his team’s game against the New York Jets.

With less than four minutes left, Carman was a blocker on the right side of a Joe Mixon rushing attempt and went down seemingly holding his back. Trainers came out and the cart was quick to follow.

The second-rounder out of Clemson was the starter at right guard when available after taking a tumultuous journey to that spot on the depth chart since arriving in training camp.

With Carman out, the Bengals went to sixth-round rookie Trey Hill at right guard. Veteran Xavier Su’a-Filo is still on injured reserve.
