Rivals’ Mike Farrell names former Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan as a top 10 transfer QB

Earlier today, Rivals columnist Mike Farrell released his top 10 transfer quarterbacks for the upcoming season. Former Wisconsin and current Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback, Jack Coan, was named as Farrell’s No. 4 transfer quarterback.

Although Farrell noted that Coan may not even win the starting job, he did mention that the Sayville, New York, native’s experience will be invaluable for the Fighting Irish this season. Coan did not play in 2020 after injuring his foot before the start of the season and transferred this offseason to Notre Dame.

Ahead of Jack Coan in Farrell’s transfer QB ranking is Western Kentucky QB Bailey Zappe, Memphis QB Grant Gunnell and Florida State QB McKenzie Milton.

5 things Notre Dame fans will like about QB Jack Coan

Former Wisconsin Badger quarterback Jack Coan entered the 2020 season with high expectations after an impressive showing in 2019—starting the year on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, Manning Award, Davey O’Brien Award and Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Then, as Badger fans know too well, he broke his foot in practice and ended up missing the year, giving way to redshirt freshman Graham Mertz to take over under center.

A transfer was all-but-inevitable at that point with Mertz set to lead the team under center for years to come. What I personally hoped at that point was for Coan to leave the Big Ten and not be a thorn in the Badgers’ side all season.

Well, I got what I wished but also didn’t, as Coan announced yesterday that he is headed to Notre Dame—a team that the Badgers will face in September.

With the Fighting Irish faithful not totally sure what they’re getting in Coan, I thought I’d put together five things Notre Dame fans will grow to like about their new quarterback.

Former Wisconsin Badger quarterback Jack Coan entered the transfer portal back in December after missing the 2020 football season with a foot injury.

Well, the grad transfer announced tonight via Twitter that he is headed to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Wisconsin is scheduled to play the Fighting Irish on September 25 next season at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Coan will now get a shot at revenge against the Badgers in the team’s biggest out-of-conference game next season.

Wisconsin senior quarterback Jack Coan entered the transfer portal today, looking to finish his career elsewhere with Graham Mertz set to…

News dropped today that Wisconsin senior quarterback Jack Coan has entered the transfer portal and will play his final collegiate year elsewhere.

The news makes sense with redshirt freshman Graham Mertz taking the starting job after the senior quarterback broke his foot in practice before the season.

The news is still, though, tough to hear after Coan had a tremendous 2019 campaign and was preparing for more of the same in 2020.

Here, as Coan searches for another school to finish his career, are some notable highlights from his time as the Wisconsin Badger quarterback:

BREAKING: Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan has entered the transfer portal

Wisconsin football senior QB Jack Coan has entered the transfer portal after suffering an injury in October and missing the 2020 season.

After an impressive 2019 season, Wisconsin senior quarterback Jack Coan was in line to lead the Badgers yet again this year. Those plans took a hit in October when he broke his foot at practice and was ruled out indefinitely.

As Badger fans know, redshirt freshman Graham Mertz took over under center and is set to lead the team for the years to come.

News broke today Coan has entered the transfer portal with the hope of finding somewhere to play his senior year.

It wasn’t the end of the Jack Coan story that many hoped to see, and this news is understandable given the current quarterback situation at the school.

Whoever gets the quarterback is getting a really good player, a great person and an even better leader. It will be fun to watch where he ends up and what his future holds at the position.
