BREAKING: 5-star RB drops list of top 7 schools, includes Florida

Florida made five-star running back Richard Young’s top seven list of schools on Sunday.

Five-star running back [autotag]Richard Young[/autotag] is considered one of the best running backs in the country, according to most recruiting services. The 247Sports composite has him 19th overall prospect and the second-best at his position. He’s coming closer to making a college commitment after releasing his list of top seven schools on Sunday via Twitter, and Florida was one of them. It made the cut along with Texas A&M, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma and Oregon.

It’s a big win because he sits within that 4.5-hour driving distance to the Swamp in Lehigh Acres, Florida, that head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] said he wanted to lock down when he took the Gators job.

Florida has used that close-to-home proximity to its advantage so far in his recruitment. He has visited the Swamp twice so far this year. The Gators will need to keep getting him on campus if they hope to prevail for his services.

Regardless of whether they eventually don’t land him, Napier and running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag] sit in a great spot for other targets [autotag]Cedric Baxter Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Treyaun Webb[/autotag]. The coaching staff has told recruits that they plan to take two running backs this cycle.

This high-priority RB target visited the Swamp again on Saturday

Four-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. is one of Florida’s top targets regardless of position.

Four-star running back [autotag]Cedric Baxter Jr[/autotag]. is Florida’s top target regardless of position in this year’s recruiting cycle. After visiting last month with his parents, he visited the Swamp again on Saturday. This will be his third visit to the Gators in 2022. The 247Sports composite rankings have Baxter as the 46th overall prospect and the fourth-best running back.

Baxter enjoyed sitting in meetings and watching the team practice during his last visit, according to 247Sports. He noted how well running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag] explained concepts and appreciated his teaching style. He also said Florida had the best spring practice out of all the teams he has watched.

Juluke has been the coach from Florida who has contacted him most. Baxter and he have been communicating so much on and away from campus that they have formed a tight bond. Baxter said he likes how genuine he is.

Baxter hasn’t formed an official leaderboard and doesn’t plan to. He said the schools he takes official visits to will make up his top five.

Report: 4-star OT high on Gators following midweek visit to the Swamp

Four-star OT Tyree Adams is up there on Florida’s recruiting wishlist, and a successful visit to the Swamp should help the Gators’ chances.

The Florida Gators hosted four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Tyree Adams[/autotag] on Tuesday and the Lousiana recruit came away with a different view of UF after touring the facilities and meeting the staff, according to 247Sports.

“It really opened my eyes,” Adams said. “I really liked it. It makes me feel wanted. It made me feel like I could come in and start as a true freshman if I work hard and that I’d have an opportunity to do my thing.”

Florida offered Adams just a week ago on March 29 and it didn’t take long for the Gators to become one of the top teams on his list. LSU tends to do well with in-state recruits and is the early favorite to land Adams, but Billy Napier has plenty of Lousiana connections on his staff.

Running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag], the one who offered Adams his scholarship, actually coached a few of Adams’ high school coaches. Even the staff that didn’t know him all that well made Adams feel wanted. Offensive line coaches [autotag]Rob Sale[/autotag] and [autotag]Darnell Stapleton[/autotag] had high praise for him.

Texas A&M will host Adams over the weekend and then his schedule quiets down a bit. He holds offers from 22 schools and will need to cut that list down by the summer so he can make official visits in June and July. Adams is hopeful to be committed by August.

The 247Sports composite ranks Adams as a three-star recruit and the No. 523 overall prospect in the class of 2023, but the On3 Consensus holds a more favorable view of him at No. 340 overall and No. 23 at his position.

Florida receives two crystal ball predictions for legacy 4-star RB

When could Florida see four-star running back Treyaun Webb hop on board after these crystal ball predictions?

Four-star running back [autotag]Treyaun Webb[/autotag] said after one of his visits earlier this month that he thought about committing to Florida before departing campus. Webb and his cousin and former star Gators cornerback [autotag]Dee Webb[/autotag] visited the Swamp again this past weekend.

247Sports’ Florida recruiting reporters Blake Alderman and Jacob Rudner have opted to submit crystal ball predictions with high confidence of seven for Webb after another strong visit to the Gators this weekend.

Webb hails from nearby Jacksonville, Florida, and plays for Trinity Christian that have produced players like Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade, Florida wide receiver [autotag]Marcus Burke[/autotag], Florida State and Indiana receiver D.J. Matthews Jr. recently. The 247Sports composite rankings have Webb as the 116th overall prospect and as the fifth-best running back in the country.

Coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] had his work cut out for him once he took over the Gators program. Florida was an afterthought for Webb under previous head coach [autotag]Dan Mullen[/autotag]. They quickly surged up his leaderboard and became the favorite.

Napier and running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag] want to take two tailbacks this cycle. The top target on their board is [autotag]Cedric Baxter Jr.[/autotag] and would love to couple him with Webb.

4-star Louisiana OT plans visit to Florida after picking up offer

Billy Napier has been recruiting four-star offensive tackle Tyree Adams since he was the head coach at Louisana.

Four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Tyree Adams[/autotag] has known Florida head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag] since they were coaching the Ragin’ Cajuns in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Napier offered the St. Augustine recruit a scholarship to play at ULL and he still wants him on his team after moving to the SEC. Adams picked up an offer from the Gators on Tuesday and has quickly planned a visit to the Swamp on Tuesday, April 5, according to Gators Online.

“When they left, they still continued to keep an eye on me. They wanted to evaluate me a little bit more to see if the SEC was right for me, and then eventually I put in the work. I did what I had to do and they pulled the trigger.”

In addition to Florida, Adams plans to stop by LSU and Texas A&M in the coming weeks. He holds offers from Florida State, Ole Miss and Mississippi State as well, so there’s plenty of competition for the No. 15 offensive tackle in the country, according to On3’s individual recruiting rankings.

LSU has a history of keeping Lousiana kids in the state, but Napier has been able to use his regionals ties to keep pace with the Tigers fairly often. [autotag]Trevor Etienne[/autotag] was the big name out of the state to sign with Florida last season and Florida was on the table for [autotag]Trevonte’ Citizen[/autotag].

Adams already has chemistry with the Florida coaches, and he says they’re sitting high on his list before he even gets to see the campus in person.

Report: New Orleans offensive tackle offered by Gators, plans visit

The Gators are looking to pull this 4-star offensive lineman out of the Louisiana bayou.

Caden Jones might not have expected to pick up an offer to play for Florida when Gators running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag] asked to call him on Tuesday night, but that’s exactly what happened, according to 247Sports.

Just a few days after getting the offer, Jones says he’s planning on visiting the Swamp on April 6. It will be his first time in Gainesville and his first time meeting Juluke despite having talked with him since Juluke was recruiting within his home state of Louisiana.

“(Juluke) was the main guy I was talking to at ULL when he was over there, so now he’s the main guy I talk to at UF,” Jones said to 247Sports. “He’s a great coach and I like him. I would say I have been talking to him since last summer. So I’ve been talking to him for about a year now.”

Jones has picked up more interest from elite programs in recent weeks. Florida State, Mississippi State and Texas A&M have all recently offered him and LSU has been involved since June. Juluke is no longer recruiting a diamond in the rough. Jones is good and word is getting out.

Although he isn’t ranked by 247Sports, On3 ranks Jones as a four-star recruit and the No. 27 offensive tackle in the class of 2023. Florida has struggled to land four and five-star offensive linemen in recent years, so having some history with Jones could help.

Right now, the most important thing for Florida regarding Jones is to wow him when he gets to campus in a little over a week.

Florida is going after this 4-star DL committed to Texas A&M

Could Florida steal this four-star defensive lineman from Texas A&M?

Four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Anthony James[/autotag] committed to Texas A&M on February 11, 2021 but that hasn’t stopped him from talking with other elite programs over the last year. One of the teams in James’ ear recently has been the Florida Gators.

James tweeted on Tuesday that Florida’s new staff offered him a scholarship, tagging head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag], co-defensive coordinators [autotag]Sean Spencer[/autotag] and [autotag]Patrick Toney[/autotag], running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag] and defensive personnel analyst [autotag]Joe Hamilton[/autotag].

He’s supposed to visit the University of Miami on April 16, so there’s an opening for Florida’s recruiting staff to try and schedule a visit with him while he’s in the state. James plays for Wylie East (Texas), so it may be hard to pry him away from his home state.

Jimbo Fisher is coming off the No. 1 recruiting class for 2022 and James is one of the centerpieces of the Aggies’ 2023 class. He’s ranked No. 54 overall and No. 8 among defensive linemen on 247Sports’ individual rankings.

Texas A&M has already seen one four-star de-commit from the program (Eli Holstein), so it’s not entirely out of the question that James backs off his pledge as well. Michigan most recently hosted James in November on an unofficial visit for the Ohio State game.

This Gators legacy running back target included Florida in top 5

Four-star running back Treyaun Webb included Florida in his top five on Friday.

Four-star running [autotag]Treyaun Webb[/autotag] trimmed his top list of schools down to five on Friday. Florida made the cut along with Baylor, South Carolina, Tennessee and Penn State.

The Jacksonville, Florida native is a legacy recruit for the Orange and Blue through his cousin, former Gators cornerback Dee Webb. He made UF the only in-state team to make his top-five list after overhauling the top 11 that he released in late January, dropping the likes of Georgia, UCF, Michigan and Oregon, among others.

Coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag] want to take two running backs this cycle to accumulate depth that the previous teams lacked. Juluke is one of the largest reasons for Florida’s resurgence in his recruitment.

The Gators have soared in Webb’s recruitment after being excluded from his top 11. Florida then got him on campus during the first weekend of March. He told reporters after the visit that he almost gave his pledge to Napier and Co.

Webb hopes to make what will be his third commitment before the start of his senior season. He previously committed to Oklahoma and Georgia.

5-star running back sets Florida visit for next weekend

Five-star Richard Young will visit Florida next weekend.

Five-star running back Richard Young mentioned his desire to visit Florida in February but didn’t have a date set yet. On Saturday, he tweeted that he’ll visit the Swamp on March 18 for an unofficial visit.

The 247Sports composite currently ranks him as the 18th overall prospect and the best player at his position. Hailing from Lehigh Acres, Florida, Young tallied 1,755 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns on 196 attempts while averaging nine yards a carry during his junior season, according to 247Sports.

His upcoming visit will be his first time seeing Florida under new coach Billy Napier. He told Swamp247 that off-the-field analyst Jamar Chaney and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke have led the charge for the Gators. Young added that he has built a strong relationship with them but looks forward to meeting them in person.

Napier visited his high school in January, but due to NCAA rules, he couldn’t speak directly with Young during his stop. But he did give his high school coach this message.

“When Coach Napier came to my school,” he said. “He told my coach to tell me to just give them a chance to recruit me. That has made it seem different with how they want to make sure that guys know they are wanted.”

So far, Young has made visits to Oklahoma and plans to visit Oregon in April.

Visit pushed back for one of Florida’s top running back targets

Four-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. scootched his visit with the Gators back a couple of days.

Four-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. is arguably Florida’s top target at the position along with Richard Young and Treyaun Webb this cycle. After his first visit to see the new look Gators under coach Billy Napier in January, Baxter wasted little time setting up another visit to the Swamp in March. However, he informed 247Sports Wednesday that he will push his visit back a few days to the 20th of March.

Running backs coach Jabbar Juluke and Napier have led the charge in his recruitment and made a strong impression on him during his last visit. He said his visit to Florida was his favorite so far and that the people stood out to him the most.

The Gators staff like Baxter because he is a three-down back who can get it done in the running or passing game. Juluke told him during his January visit that he likes his ability to run inside or outside the tackle.
