Jinh Yu Frey vs. Istela Nunes targeted for UFC Fight Night on July 31

A strawweight matchup between Jinh Yu Frey and Istela Nunes is in the works for UFC Fight Night on July 31.

A strawweight matchup is in the works for UFC Fight Night on July 31.

[autotag]Jinh Yu Frey[/autotag] (10-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will take on [autotag]Istela Nunes[/autotag] in an event which doesn’t currently have an announced location or venue.

Two people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the booking Tuesday but asked to remain anonymous because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

After going 0-2 to start out her UFC tenure, Frey picked up her first octagon win when she defeated Dana White’s Contender Series alum Gloria de Paula at UFC Fight Night 187 in March.

Nunes, a former ONE Championship title challenger, will make her long-awaited UFC debut. The 28-year-old Brazilian was set to make her promotional debut against Angela Hill in September 2019, but was pulled after testing positive for multiple stanozolol metabolites, 16β-hydroxystanozolol and 3′-hydroxystanozolol, following an out-of-competition urine test on July 22, 2019. As a result she was suspended for two years and will be eligible to compete in July 22, 2021.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night lineup for July 31 includes:

  • Bryan Barberena vs. Jason Witt
  • Jinh Yu Frey vs. Istela Nunes
