Why stashed Boston Celtics guard Yam Madar is in no hurry to join the NBA

Hint: It’s all about opportunity.

Stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar is in no hurry to come over to the NBA just to struggle to get on the floor with the parent club or spend time schlepping around the G League to get the time he needs to grow his game.

Instead, the Israeli floor general has been taking advantage of an opportunity to helm the Israel National Team in the 2022 European Basketball Championship and to be featured with his European pro team, Partizan NIS, in the season to come. The Beit Dagan native does still hope to make the NBA in the future, but on his terms and when he is ready to make an impact.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear a good breakdown on this and his game put together by the folks at the Treese YouTube channel.

Israel drops Eurobasket tilt to Czechia 88-77 as stashed Boston Celtics guard Yam Madar gets 16 points, 5 assists

Boston’s 2020 second-round stash continues to shine despite Israel’s EuroBasket woes.

Stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar had another solid game in a start for the Israeli National Team on Thursday in FIBA EuroBasket play, but it came in an 88-77 loss to the Czech National Team.

The Beit Dagan native put up a team-high 16 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals in just under 34 minutes of floor time, picking up 3 personal fouls and turning the ball over just once. Madar had himself another hot-shooting night, hitting 5-of-9 from the floor overall, 2-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.

The Israeli floor general has been a bright spot for Israel so far in the group stage of EuroBasket play that has seen the Israeli National Team struggle a bit more than they might have been expected to, currently in fifth place of six clubs in Group D with a 2-3 record after the loss.

“We’re disappointed, I would say we’re sad,” said teammate Gal Mekel via Eurohoops. “We wanted to finish this week, but this is basketball. We made some mistakes and we paid for them.”

Yam Madar’s big game can’t stop Nikola Jokic’s Serbia; Israel falls 89-78

The stashed Celtics point guard couldn’t miss, but it wasn’t enough to shut down the Joker and company.

Israel fell to Nikola Jokic’s Serbia, 89-78, on Tuesday despite one of the best games in EuroBasket play yet from stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar.

The Beit Dagan native put up a team-high 20 points, 4 assists and 2 steals in a little more than 29 minutes of floor time, but it wasn’t enough to get Israel past one of the NBA’s top talents.

The Israeli floor general’s shooting, in particular, shined in the loss. He hit a red-hot 8-of-11 overall and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in a contest in which Madar had only 3 turnovers and 2 personal fouls.

As good as Madar’s game was, neither he nor any of his Israel National Team companions had an answer for Jokic, who cruised to 29 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks before fouling out in the game’s final frame.

With the loss, Israel falls to 2-2 and is tied with Finland for third place in Group D.

Stashed Celtics guard Yam Madar gets 17 points vs. Poland with Israel in EuroBasket play

Stashed Boston Celtics floor general Yam Madar had one of his best games yet in EuroBasket play for the Israeli National Team, but it was not enough to beat Poland.

Stashed Boston Celtics floor general Yam Madar had one of his best games yet in EuroBasket play for the Israeli National Team, but it was not enough to beat the Polish National Team, which won 85-76 on Monday.

The Beit Dagan native put up 17 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block in the loss. He shot 5-of-8 from the field overall, a sizzling 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe in slightly less than 21 minutes of floor time. Madar committed one turnover but no personal fouls for one of his most complete contests at this level.

Even so, Israel needed more than what Madar alone could provide. It fell to 2-1 in Group D play. Poland seized the top spot in the group with Israel second.

Stashed Boston Celtics guard Yam Madar gets 14 points, 3 assists vs. Netherlands w/ Israel

Madar helped the Israeli National Team defeat the Netherlands National Team 74-67 in EuroBasket play

Stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar helped the Israeli National Team defeat the Netherlands National Team 74-67 in EuroBasket play on Saturday afternoon. The Beit Dagan native put up a total of 14 points, 3 rebounds, as many assists, and a steal in just under 24 minutes of floor time.

The former No. 47 pick of the 2020 NBA draft for Boston turned the ball over 3 times, and picked up 2 personal fouls in the win, shooting a very solid 5-of-10 from the field, an equally-hot 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, and a much less impressive 4-of-8 from the free throw line to complete his production in the Group D game.

Madar elected to skip the 2022 Las Vegas Summer League to focus on getting ready for a season where he will be featured by Partizan NIS and the Israeli National Team’s participation in this year’s EuroBasket competition.

While it’s too soon to say how things will go with Madar’s Serbian league squad at present, the Israeli floor general looked good against the Netherlands, even hitting a dagger from mid-court at one point.

Stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar goes off for 27 points vs. Sweden in FIBA qualifier

Madar’s trey was looking especially crisp in the loss to their Scandinavian opponent.

Stashed Boston Celtics floor general Yam Madar went off in the Israeli National Team’s 95-83 loss to Sweden in FIBA World Cup qualifier play on Sunday.

The No. 47 pick in the 2020 NBA draft put together one of his best games ever in FIBA play: 27 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal in less than 29 minutes of play. The Beit Dagan native shot 7-of-12 from the field overall, a blistering 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe in the loss, fouling twice and turning the ball over as many times.

It might not have ended with the result he wanted for Israel, but the Partizan NIS point guard is showing real progress as a player, which could translate to Madar finally making the leap to the NBA in the near future.

To see his game against Sweden in full, check out the highlights from the tilt in this video put together by FIBA.

Stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar, Israel have off night vs. Finland in Eurobasket play

Much of Madar’s woes stemmed from a rough shooting game, the Beit Dagan native going just 4-of-12 from the field overall.

Stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar had a bit of a tough outing with the Israeli National Team on Thursday, scoring 11 points, an assist, and 2 steals in 27 minutes of play against the Finnish National Team in EuroBasket play. But it wasn’t enough to overcome Cleveland Cavaliers big man Lauri Markkanen’s 28 points as Finland pulled off a 79-72 win.

Much of Madar’s woes stemmed from a rough shooting game, the Beit Dagan native going just 4-of-12 from the field overall, including only 2-of-6 from beyond the arc for the night, picking up 4 fouls and committing 3 turnovers to compound his woes against Finland.

It was an off night for Israel in general, with teammate and Washington Wizards wing Deni Avidja scoring just 8 points on 3-of-10 shooting overall, per Eurohoops. With the loss, the Israeli National Team (3-4) now finds themselves in fourth place in Group J, trailing Germany (6-1), Finland (6-1), and Slovenia (5-2) in that order.

Stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar shines vs. Auburn in exhibition with Israeli National Team

The Celtics’ Madar put up an impressive 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists in the win for Israel.

Stashed Boston Celtics point guard Yam Madar continues to hone his craft abroad. He is reportedly set to play a major role with European club Partizan NIS in Serbia this season. The Israeli floor general eschewed playing in the Las Vegas Summer League with the Celtics in July to focus on preparing for that campaign and the Israeli National team.

In a recent exhibition game against the Auburn’s men’s basketball program, Madar put on a show. He put up an impressive 24 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists in the 95-86 win for Israel. Auburn is playing three exhibition games in Israel this summer.

Check out his highlights in the clip embedded above, courtesy of the folks at the Bllen YouTube channel.

Auburn falls to Israeli National Team in final game of Israel tour

Auburn fought hard but was unable to best Israel’s national team.

It was by a slim margin of nine points, but the Auburn Tigers were unable to leave their expedition to Israel undefeated.

Auburn lost to the Israeli National Team by a score of 95-86, ending their tenure in the country with a loss and a 2-1 record over three exhibition matches. Unlike the Israeli U20 team and the Israeli All-Star Select, the regular national team boasted NBA competition and players who were much older than the current Tigers roster.

The Tigers kept it close across the entire game, and they ended the first half tied with Israel at 20 apiece. [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag] was the leading scorer for the Tigers with six points and two rebounds, and emerging star [autotag]Yohan Traore[/autotag] wasn’t too far behind.

Auburn still kept it close at the half, as the Tigers ended the first half of the game trailing 43-41. [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] emerged as the Tigers’ leading scorer at the break, scoring 10 points and netting two assists.

The Tigers found themselves down by 10 at the end of the third, 68-58. Green Jr. continued his dominant performance, ending it with 15 points and six rebounds. [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] showed out as well, scoring eight points and six rebounds.

In the end, though, the Tigers were not able to rally and defeat Israel. The team lost 95-86, but managed to put four of its players in the double digits for scoring. Green Jr. remained the team’s highest scoring, dropping 19 points across the game.

Auburn basketball coasts by Israel U-20 team in first exhibition

The Tigers had no trouble with their foreign tour opponents.

The Auburn men’s basketball team will certainly still be enjoying their vacation after breezing through its first challenge overseas.

The Tigers defeated the Israeli U-20 national team 117-56 on Tuesday in the first of three exhibition matches the team plans to play in Israel. The win was Auburn’s third consecutive 100-point game in preseason foreign tours.

Auburn never stopped rolling the entire game, and as such, got off to a very hot start. The Tigers ended the first quarter up 21-8 on the Israeli U-20 team, with incoming freshman [autotag]Yohan Traore[/autotag] leading the scoring with five points — he also netted three rebounds in the first quarter.

[autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag]’s squad extended their lead to 33 by the time the second half came to an end, going up 55-22. Traore shot 50 percent from the field by halftime’s end and had eight points and five rebounds to top the team’s scoring. Transfer [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] put in some work as well, netting six points, four rebounds and a block for his new team at the half.

The lead grew to 40 points by the end of the third, with the Tigers up 80-40. It was [autotag]Chance Westry[/autotag] that would briefly take over the scoring title from Traore in the game, as he had 11 points, three assists and a block by the time the third quarter came to an end. Westry was one of three players with 10 points or more for Auburn at the end of the third, joining [autotag]K.D. Johnson[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag]. Cardwell in particular had a staggering 14 rebounds up to that point.

Auburn really opened up in the fourth quarter to take it away, winning by the 117-56 score by a deficit of 61 points. Traore wouldn’t be outdone, scoring 11 more points in the final frame. Broome also showed out, ending the game with 17 points and 9 rebounds.

Auburn is set to play the Israeli All-Star Select Squad on Sunday and then the regular Israeli National Team the following day.
