The Kansas City Chiefs are fresh from their first loss of the season but got some positive news regarding an injured starter. Head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters on Wednesday to discuss the status of starting running back Isiah Pacheco as he continues to work his way back from injury.

“We’ll see on both those two (Charles Omenihu),” said Reid. “Kind of go through the practice (and) see where we’re at this week and go from there. We’ll just have to say, a day-by-day-type thing.”

Reid also mentioned rehabbing Charles Omenihu’s progress toward a potential return, but Pacheco’s potential this weekend seems promising. During his press conference, the Chiefs head coach praised Pacheco’s work ethic and desire to return.

“He’s a spark plug, emotionally; he’s something that way, and he’s worked his tail off to get to the point he’s at now. We’ve got to keep an eye on him that way,” said Reid. “He would’ve played three weeks ago if he had his choice, but that’s sometimes how it goes. I appreciate that, though, that mentality. That’s what’s helped him get to this point.”

Pacheco was off to a productive start this season before going down with a fractured fibula in the team’s Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. A backfield alongside Kareem Hunt appears to be a matter of time as the Rutgers standout’s health is on the uptick.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco has been sidelined since Week 2 due to a fibula injury.

In his absence, veteran rusher Kareem Hunt has stepped up to lead Kansas City’s ground game.

Could Pacheco make his return to the field in the Chiefs’ Week 12 matchup against the Carolina Panthers?

Pacheco was a limited participant in Kansas City’s Wednesday practice session. He was listed with an ankle injury, and seems like a long-shot to see the field when the Chiefs face Carolina on Sunday.

How long will Isiah Pacheco be out?

It is unclear when Andy Reid intends to get Pacheco back to action, but given Hunt’s outstanding performance as Kansas City’s lead back, it is unlikely that he will be rushed back into the starting lineup.

With Pacheco sidelined, the Chiefs have relied on Hunt, Carson Steele, and Samaje Perine to lead their ground game. Former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire is also available to pitch in if needed.

Isiah Pacheco was the Kansas City Chiefs’ starting running back earlier this season but saw his 2024 campaign abruptly halted in Week 2 when he suffered a serious injury in the defending Super Bowl champions’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

This forced the Chiefs to place Pacheco on their injured reserve list.

Pacheco suffered a major setback when he fractured a fibula in Week 2.

He made his first return to practice in Week 11, but his participation in Kansas City’s drills was limited.

How long will Isiah Pacheco be out?

It is unknown how much more time is needed to ease Pacheco back into his starting role.

He is likely to make his comeback at some point before playoffs, but he will not see the field against the Buffalo Bills in Week 11.

While Pacheco recovers, Kareem Hunt will be the No. 1 option in the Chiefs’ backfield. Hunt has proven to be a capable replacement for Pacheco this season and will combine with Samaje Perine and Carson Steele to keep Kansas City’s ground game rolling against Buffalo.

Chiefs OC Matt Nagy on the potential of a Kareem Hunt, Isiah Pacheco backfield

The return of Isiah Pacheco to practice for the Kansas City Chiefs opens the door for various new formations alongside current starter Kareem Hunt. Offensive Coordinator Matt Navy discussed with reporters Thursday the possibility of playing both talented running backs together soon.

“Well, just those guys both want the football, which is a great thing. And again, they’re really good when they have the football. So again, positive for the Chiefs and the fact that they run hard, they’re physical and violent.” said Nagy. Pop (Isiah Pacheco) brings that. Pacheco brings that Energizer Bunny mentality of excitement and fire, and you put that together with Kareem. It’s a great one-two punch, per se.”

Hunt has been the primary running back since signing with the team and has shown impressive versatility and durability with his workload. The return of Pacheco should alleviate some of Hunt’s usage as the Chiefs focus on the rapidly approaching postseason.

“So I think more than anything, it’s just refreshing to see him (Pacheco) out there, the energy, the positivity, such a happy kid,” said Nagy. “He runs hard, but he’s a good player, too, so there’s that element to it. I think it makes it unique for the defense throughout.”

Pacheco was already ruled out for this Sunday, but there is optimism that he could be available soon before the postseason.

The emergence of veteran running back Kareem Hunt since returning to the Kansas City Chiefs has provided another dynamic for the offense this season. The heavy workload focused on the run serves the team well while the team eagerly awaits their injured starter.

Hunt spoke to reporters on Wednesday before practice, expressing his desire to play alongside starting running back Isiah Pacheco soon.

i think that’s great, man. I’m happy for him (Isiah Pacheco), and i know he’s excited to get back and get out there.” said Hunt. “I think it’s gonna be a heck of a one-two punch.”

The 29-year-old running back spent five seasons with the Cleveland Browns, working primarily alongside Nick Chubb. He is confident he can work well with Pacheco once he’s available to play.

“I think it could be very similar, man. I’m excited,” said Hunt. I’m used to working with other great backs and stuff like that. So, I feel like it’s gonna be another great one-two punch.”

Pacheco returned to practice to continue his ramp-up process after being taken off the injured reserve. He has been out of action since fracturing his fibula in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

First look: Key Chiefs veterans returned to practice on Wednesday

Watch this video of #Chiefs veterans Charles Omenihu, Isiah Pacheco, and JuJu Smith-Schuster making their return to practice on Wednesday.

Footage has surfaced from the Kansas City Chiefs’ Wednesday practice session that showed Charles Omenihu, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Isiah Pacheco getting reps in during the team’s drills.

These three Chiefs have had to miss games due to brutal injuries but will look to make their comebacks over the next few weeks.

Omenihu tore his ACL in last season’s AFC Championship Game, which kept him off the field through the first half of the regular season.

Smith-Schuster has had to miss time since Kansas City’s Week 7 road trip that saw the Chiefs defeat the San Fransisco 49ers. He is the most likely veteran to make his return to the starting lineup on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Pacheco has been on injured reserve since he fractured a fibula against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.

The Kansas City Chiefs welcomed back two starters to practice on Wednesday after extended stints on injured reserve. Defensive lineman Charles Omenihu and running back Isiah Pacheco officially returned to practice, joining their teammates on the field in hopes of ramping up and getting ready for potential game action.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the statuses of his returning players ahead of practice during his weekly podium press conference.

“As far as injuries go, Charles (Omenihu) and (Isiah) Pacheco will start working today, and we’ll just gradually build them up as we go. And that’s really it. Everybody else is practicing.”

Reid also quickly responded to a reporter’s question about their status for Week 11 as: “Unlikely.”

Pacheco has been out since fracturing his fibula in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Omenihu suffered a torn ACL in the AFC Championship Game earlier this year against the Baltimore Ravens.

Each player’s return to the lineup will be welcomed, but there isn’t necessarily a rush to get them on the field without being 100 percent.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been dealing with injuries all season, but finally got some good news on Wednesday when veteran defensive lineman Charles Omenihu and running back Isiah Pacheco returned to practice.

Both players were designated for return from Kansas City’s injured reserve list earlier this week, though their status for the Chiefs’ Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills is still in question.

Omenihu had been dealing with a torn ACL he suffered in the AFC Championship Game earlier this year.

Pacheco fractured a fibula in Week 2 of the regular season, which caused Kansas City to sign Kareem Hunt on September 16.

It seems unlikely that Omenihu and Pacheco will see the field in Week 11, though Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is sure to be chomping at the bit to get them back in action for Kansas City’s second-half push to the playoffs.

Stay tuned to see when Omenihu and Pacheco get back into action.

Report: Chiefs to designate two key veterans for return from IR

According to a report, the #Chiefs are set to designate RB Isiah Pacheco and DL Charles Omenihu for return from their injured reserve list.

The Kansas City Chiefs may soon get some much-needed reinforcements for the second half of their 2024 Super Bowl defense campaign.

On Tuesday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the defending Super Bowl champions intend to designate veteran running back Isiah Pacheco and defensive lineman Charles Omenihu for return from their injured reserve list.

Pacheco was injured earlier this season and has missed all of Kansas City’s games since Week 2 due to a fractured fibula.

Omenihu, who signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in 2023, is recovering from an ACL injury that he sustained during the AFC Championship Game earlier this year.

Though it remains unclear exactly when both players will return to action for Kansas City, their return is a great sign for the Chiefs heading into the second half of the regular season.

Stay tuned to see if head coach Andy Reid reveals when Pacheco and Omenihu can be expected to return to the field.

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire shares Brett Veach story, preparing for game return

Kansas City #Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire shares Brett Veach story, preparing for game return | @EdEastonJr

The return of Clyde Edwards-Heaire to the Kansas City Chiefs is eagerly anticipated as he continues to work through PTSD. During a recent appearance on ‘The Pivot‘ podcast, the former Chiefs first-round pick described his preparation for returning to game action, helping the defense during practice and uplifting conversation with general manager Brett Veach.

“I’ve been doing everything that I that I can. I’ve been in every meeting and at every practice since I’ve been, you know, let off NFI,” Edwards-Helaire explained. “I was talking to (Brett) Veach, and he was like, Man, even though you’re not out there, you are on our 53. No other team would do that in the league. No other team would do that. Like man, I know what you bring.”

Since being taken off the NFI list, the former LSU star has been listed as inactive. The Chiefs’ running backs room continues to be led by Kareem Hunt while starter Isiah Pacheco recovers from injury.

“I think I’m showing everything that I need to do, like I’ve been on service, you know, P-Squad (Practice Squad), servicing the starters on our defense, making sure they good every week,” said Edwards-Helaire. “That’s a proud moment for me because I feel like our defense ain’t been letting up on anybody. So I’m like, I’m doing the things that I need to do for our team to be successful as much as I can in this spot.”

Last season, Edwards-Helaire started three of the 15 games he played, tallying 223 yards rushing and 188 yards receiving. He had one touchdown as a runner and another as a receiver.

“As soon as they flick that two or five light, for me to get on with the ones and be able to be out there and showcase with our guys who’ve been rolling,” said Edwards-Helaire, “they going to get Clyde, full-blown I mean, and I think the biggest thing was me, was just finding peace within myself and I think I found it.”

Edwards-Helaire will eventually rejoin a productive running back room on the active game roster. Kansas City has been one of the best-rushing teams in the league this season.
