Packers signing another USFL wide receiver

The Packers are signing WR/PR Ishmael Hyman, who played for the Michigan Panthers of the USFL.

For the third time in two weeks, the Green Bay Packers are adding another player from the USFL to the 90-man roster.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the Packers are signing wide receiver and punt returner Ishmael Hyman, who played for the Michigan Panthers of the USFL.

Over just four games, Hyman (6-0, 196) caught 15 passes on 22 targets for 158 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned seven punts for 78 yards (long of 35).

Hyman, 26, went undrafted out of James Madison in 2019. He spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers, playing in two regular-season games and catching two passes for the Buccaneers during the 2019 season.

The Packers could use more depth at wide receiver while Sammy Watkins and Christian Watson recover from injuries, and Hyman could compete to be the punt returner.

Hyman joins tight end Sal Cannella (New Orleans Breakers) and receiver Osirus Mitchell (Birmingham Stallions) as former USFL players arriving in Green Bay.

The Packers released linebacker Caliph Brice on Wednesday, clearing a roster spot for Hyman.

Colts worked out four WRs before training camp

The Colts worked out four WRs on Monday.

The Indianapolis Colts held a tryout for four free-agent wide receivers Monday ahead of the start of 2022 training camp, per the league’s transaction wire.

With second-year wideout Mike Strachan starting camp on the PUP list, it isn’t a surprise to see the Colts checking out the talent that’s available on the market.

The four wide receivers included Isaiah Ford, John Hurst, Ishmael Hyman and Tyson Morris.

Of the quartet, Ford has the most NFL experience. He has played in 37 games while making three starts since entering the league in 2018.

Hurst and Hyman have bounced around the league a bit mostly on practice squads while Morris went undrafted during the 2022 NFL draft.

The Colts may make a move at wide receiver, and players like T.Y. Hilton, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. are still available as well.

Panthers place another OL on injured reserve, activate DT from COVID-19 list

Today, the same thing happened to his fellow 2019 pick, sixth-rounder Dennis Daley.

The Carolina Panthers offensive line has been snake-bitten all season. A few days ago, the team placed second-year offensive tackle Greg Little on injured reserve, ending his 2020 campaign. Today, the same thing happened to his fellow 2019 pick, sixth-rounder Dennis Daley.

The Panthers just announced Daley is going on injured reserve due to the concussion he suffered in the team’s Week 11 win over the Lions. Daley only played in five games this season and was on the field for 15% of the team’s offensive snaps.

On a positive note, the team has activated defensvie tackle Zach Kerr from the reserve/COVID-19 list, where he’s been for several weeks. Kerr has performed well in 11 games this year, posting two sacks and nine quarterback hits to go with 27 combined tackles.

The Panthers also activated wide receiver Ishmael Hyman from the practice squad’s reserve/COVID-19 list. However, he is now on the practice squad’s injured reserve list.

8 Panthers players placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Panthers just announced that eight players have been placed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Panthers just announced that eight players have been placed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list.

Here is the list, per the team website.

WR D.J. Moore
WR Curtis Samuel
DT Derrick Brown
DT Zach Kerr
LB Shaq Thompson
OT Greg Little
P Michael Palardy (IR)
WR Ishmael Hyman (PS)

This is a pretty brutal list for an inexperienced team that’s had problems with injuries and COVID-19 all season.

Wide receiver is obviously the major concern, here. If Moore and Samuel are both out it will be an enormous blow to Carolina’s passing game, no matter how impressive Robby Anderson has been this season.

Defensive tackle is another other huge concern. Both Brown and Kerr have played well this season and with Kawann Short out for the year there’s not very much depth left behind them at all. To make matters worse, defensive tackle Bruce Hector is also on the practice squad reserve/COVID-19 list. That’s where wide receiver Ishmael Hyman is headed, as well.

As bad as all this is for the depth chart, right now football is a secondary concern. What matters most is the health and safety of these athletes and their families. We wish all those involved a full recovery and urge everyone to take precautions to do everything they can to avoid catching a virus that has killed almost 300,000 Americans to date.

Panthers rule out Christian McCaffrey, Donte Jackson for Week 12 vs. Vikings

The Panthers also placed wide receiver Ishmael Hyman on the practice squad injured reserve list.

The Carolina Panthers have made some announcements and roster moves ahead of tomorrow’s matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

First, running back Christian McCaffrey will not be traveling with the team. He was listed as questionable but it always seemed like a long shot that he would return this week. As expected, Mike Davis has been named the starting running back again.

Cornerback Donte Jackson has also been ruled out. No replacement has been named as of yet but last week rookies Troy Pride Jr. and Stantley Thomas-Oliver split his reps outside opposite Rasul Douglas.

Carolina also has elevated practice squad defensive back Natrell Jamerson to the active roster as a COVID-19 exemption. So far, he’s played in two games this year, putting in 12 snaps on special teams and one on defense. Unless there’s a couple of injuries to the DBs ahead of him on the depth chart, Jamerson will most likely rarely see the field in Minnesota.

The Panthers also placed wide receiver Ishmael Hyman on the practice squad injured reserve list.

Emergency kicker Taylor Bertolet was also re-signed to the practice squad.
