2022 NFL draft: Watch highlights of new Chargers RB Isaiah Spiller

Get familiar with the newest member of the Los Angeles Chargers, RB Isaiah Spiller.

The Chargers got their presumed complement to Austin Ekeler with the pick of former Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller at No. 123 overall.

The first thing that stands out with Spiller is his vision. He has the eyes to find the holes and his footwork allows him to get between them quickly.

Spiller has smooth and fluid feet when changing directions.

He may not be a bruiser, but Spiller has the toughness and the ability to easily run through arm tackles and grind out extra yardage on contact.

He ran screens, flats, swings, and wheels out of the backfield, where he showed good hands and catching ability.

Spiller does lack long speed and fumbles can be an issue, as he put the ball on the ground nearly 10 times in just three seasons.

The bottom line is that the Chargers got a solid running back in the fourth round who is capable of coming in and making an early impact for them and freeing up some of Ekeler’s workload.

NFL Draft 2022: Best day 3 draft fits for Isaiah Spiller

NFL Draft 2022: Best day 3 draft fits for Isaiah Spiller

In a surprising turn of events, day two of the NFL draft has come and passed, and heralded Aggies running back, Isaiah Spiller has yet to be selected.

Day 2 of the draft saw six running backs go off the board, including suprising selections like Tyrion Davis-Price and Rachaad White, who were ranked much lower than Spiller by media draft experts, but Spiller sat unselected.

As day 3 is ready to begin, Spiller shouldn’t be waiting long to hear his name called, so which teams could still use a running back where Spiller could fit in the 4th round and make the league regret letting him fall so far.

Which Aggies should hear their names called on Day 3?

In the last two nights, 105 players have been selected in the NFL draft, in a bit of a surprise, only two of those players, Kenyon Green, who was selected 15th overall by the Houston Texans, and defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal who was picked 84th by the Pittsburgh Steelers, attended Texas A&M University. Many draft pundits believed atleast a third Aggie would be selected by the end of the second day. Now it seems as though the third and final day will be the day of the Aggies as we expect to see six Aggies picked before Mr. Irrelevant’s name is called in Las Vegas.

2022 NFL draft: Predicting positions the Seahawks will target on Day 3

This team loves to run the rock and they’re going to be doing more of it than ever now that the pesky future Hall of Fame quarterback is out of the way.

In a surprise twist, the Seahawks have mostly kept to a script of taking plus athletes at premium positions in the 2022 NFL draft. Of course they also used a second-round choice on a running back, but if you were shocked by that then you should take what coach Pete Carroll says more literally. This team loves to run the rock and they’re going to be doing more of it than ever now that the pesky future Hall of Fame quarterback is out of the way.

The good news is they have also hit left and right tackle plus the edge, which were their top-three positional needs heading into the draft if we’re not counting quarterbacks. On that front, it appears that coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider are not into any of these 2022 signal callers. They passed on multiple chances to draft both Malik Willis and Desmond Ridder, who wound up being taken by the Titans and the Falcons, respectively. Matt Corral has also been picked by the Panthers.

There’s always an outside chance they could roll the dice on Sam Howell or Carson Strong, but we’re going into Day 3 assuming quarterback is not on the menu this year. With that in mind, here are a few other positions fans should probably expect to see Seattle target today.

2022 NFL draft: Which A&M players are waiting to hear their name called?

The first day and first round of the 2022 NFL draft are officially over, with 32 men hearing their names called and ready to start their professional football careers. For Texas A&M, offensive lineman Kenyon Green became the first of hopefully a number of Aggies drafted, selected 15th overall by the Houston Texans, staying close to home and looking to make an impact right away.

With seven other Aggies looking to be drafted on day two and day three, teams will be eyeing areas of need to supplement their rosters, and with this being one of the more talented A&M draft classes, teams will be getting a steal in later rounds, as we see every year after the first round concludes. Let’s see who’s left before the second and third rounds begin.

Texans think there are good running backs on the board

The Houston Texans believe there are good running backs on the board to start Day 2 of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Houston Texans used their twin first-round picks to take LSU cornerback Derek Stingley No. 3 overall and Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green No. 15 overall after a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Texans weren’t expected to use a first-round pick on a running back, nor were any running backs projected to go in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. However, Day 2, which comprises Rounds 2-3, is a different story.

General manager Nick Caserio said the club will “look at everything” on Day 2.

“As far as how we evaluate the running back position in general, yeah, no different than we evaluate any other positions,” Caserio said. “There are certain skills that are required. We talked about this the other day, just about the overall composition of the room currently. If there’s an opportunity to add a player that we feel makes sense that enhances that room, then we’ll go ahead and do it.”

The Texans have selections at Nos. 37 (Round 2), 67 (Round 3), and 80 (Round 3). There are ample opportunities to pick up a running back, whether Texas A&M’s Isaiah Spiller, Michigan’s Hassan Haskins, Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker, or Iowa State’s Breece Hall.

Said Caserio: “When will that take place? Who knows? We’ll see. I think there are some good football players at that position and good football players at some other positions. Try to make a good decision and add a good player to the team and keep moving forward.”

The Texans have not picked a running back on Day 2 since they selected Texas’ D’Onta Foreman with a Round 3 pick.

Seahawks 2022 NFL mock draft: The run shall be established edition

What good are 10 draft picks if you don’t use at least three of them on running backs?

The 2022 NFL draft begins Thursday evening in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Seattle Seahawks head into this year’s draft with major needs at several critical positions. In the wake of the trade sending former franchise quarterback Russell Wilson to the Broncos, this team will most-likely be looking to establish a different identity offensively, one more in line with coach Pete Carroll’s ideas about how football games can and should be won.

Seattle should at least take a chance on one of the top QB prospects in this class. However, no matter who winds up starting Week 1 – be it Geno Smith, Drew Lock or somebody else, we’re willing to bet Shane Waldron’s offense will be more run-heavy.

With that in mind, we went into our final seven-round mock draft of the year with a clear goal of reaching that ultimate pinnacle of competing in modern professional football by firmly establishing the run.

Vikings 2022 NFL draft preview: Where does Minnesota stand at RB?

The need isn’t high for the Vikings at RB, but there’s still clearly a need.

The Minnesota Vikings will be galloping into the 2022 season with one of the best offensive backfields in the league. Things have been so good that the team hasn’t had to endure much change at the running back position.

But that might not be the case with certain contracts coming due at the end of the 2022 season.

The bottom line is the Vikings need to go into the 2022 NFL draft looking to get some fresh legs in the pipeline to ensure they can continue to have long-term success at running back.

There’s plenty of intriguing options at the position, including the younger brother of a player already on the roster. Here are where things stand right now for the Vikings at running back.

Denver Broncos 3-round NFL mock draft

Draft Wire’s latest NFL mock draft has the Broncos going LB, OT, RB with their first three picks.

With the 2022 NFL draft just over one week away, Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling recently published a new three-round NFL mock draft.

Easterling’s mock has the Broncos using their first pick (No. 64 overall in the second round) to select Alabama linebacker Christian Harris. Given that other mock drafts have Harris going off the board at No. 52 overall on average, landing him in the bottom of the second would be good value for Denver.

After that, the Broncos select Minnesota offensive tackle Daniel Faalele with their initial third-round pick (No. 75). That would represent another good value pick for Denver as mocks have Faalele going at No. 57 on average.

To finish up the three-round mock, Easterling has the Broncos adding Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller at No. 96 overall in the third round. Spiller, who rushed for 1,011 yards last season, would be a good complement to Javonte Williams in Denver’s backfield.
