Report: Tennessee WR commit Isaiah Neyor set to visit Texas on Wednesday

Getting Neyor on campus is big news for Texas’ staff.

It seemed as if Texas struck out with Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor after he announced his commitment to Tennessee last week. The good news for Texas is Neyor’s recruitment does not appear to be over.

The 6-foot-3 wideout is coming off a visit to Ole Miss and will check out Texas on Wednesday according to Gerry Hamilton of On3sports.

Getting Neyor on campus is huge for Texas’ coaching staff. It provides one final opportunity to sell him on becoming a Longhorn. The Longhorns are in desperate need of some depth at wide receiver and Neyor could provide to be a force opposite Xavier Worthy.

The former Wyoming Cowboy is coming off of a breakout season where he caught 44 passes for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns. Averaging nearly yards per catch, Neyor has the big-play capability that Steve Sarkisian is looking for in a wideout.

Flipping Neyor would provide Texas with another potential impact player from the transfer portal.

Texas transfer wide receiver target Isaiah Neyor commits to Tennessee

Texas misses out on another transfer target.

Even with recent efforts to add an experienced wide receiver to the squad, the Longhorns will have to look elsewhere.

There has been a talented pool of receivers that Texas has missed out on this offseason, and that trend continued on Friday.

Wyoming wide receiver transfer Isaiah Neyor elected to take his talents to the other UT, as he announced via Twitter on Friday his commitment to Tennessee.

Texas was supposed to host Neyor for an official visit, but his mind was made up before the visit could even happen.

This is a tough one to swallow for Texas, as the 6-foot-3 Neyor had a great year this pasts season, catching 44 passes for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns, while averaging 20 yards per reception. He also earned a second team All-Mountain West Conference nod.

While Texas still has some time to pick up another transfer before next year, they need to work at a much quicker pace than they have been so far in this round of the transfer portal. Addressing the disparity at receiver must be a focal point for the staff going into the next season.

WATCH: Transfer portal target WR Isaiah Neyor’s highlights while at Wyoming

Isaiah Neyor is a human highlight reel!

Texas is looking to add a major receiving talent out of the transfer portal in Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor.

The Arlington, Texas, native is a redshirt freshman who had a phenomenal year at Wyoming, where he caught 44 passes for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns. His performance has caught the attention of dozens of major programs, as he has accumulated offers from schools such as Ole Miss, USC, Tennessee, and as of Wednesday, Texas.

The 6-foot-3 playmaker offers a deep threat along with being someone who can go up and win 50-50 balls. Here are some of his best plays during this past season at Wyoming.

Neyor would be a fantastic addition to a Texas offense that badly needed someone other than Xavier Worthy to step up at the receiver position.

The receivers were a point of weakness for Texas’ offense, as they struggled with health and being consistent playmakers. The Longhorns may have an advantage over other schools due to the fact that he is a Texas native, but they will certainly need to stand out in order to get the big-bodied receiver in a Longhorns uniform.

Texas offers skilled transfer wide receiver Isaiah Neyor

Texas is now targeting WR Isaiah Neyor in the transfer portal.

Texas’ football team had an abundance of needs to fill after going 5-7 in Steve Sarkisian’s first season.

You could close your eyes and point at a position group to identify a problem, and you would be right about 90% of the time. One of the biggest needs to improve the team was the lack of depth and consistency at the receiver position for anyone not named Xavier Worthy.

The freshman sensation quickly stood out, and was one of the nation’s top pass catchers. The only issue was that after Jordan Whittington went down against Oklahoma, there was no one that was really able to step up and pose a credible threat. Defenses began to shade over towards Worthy and double him in order to take him out of the game as much as they could.

The Longhorns have a ton of unproven talent on the roster at the receiver position, and since day one of Sarkisian’s tenure, he expressed how he needed more from that group.

The Longhorns brought in two receivers in the 2022 class, but counting on players who haven’t done anything at the college level yet is big risk to take, especially when Brenen Thompson is coming off an injury and Savion Red could end up being a gadget player.

The staff has decided to look to the transfer portal, and Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor seems to be their primary target.

The redshirt freshman is an Arlington native, and had a tremendously productive year for the Cowboys. He caught 44 passes for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns, while averaging 20 yards per reception.

His performance garnered a second team All-Moutain West Conference nod. Neyor is a shifty receiver who also offers some size at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, and has been receiving a ton of attention from Power Five programs, receiving offers from schools such as Ole Miss, TCU, and Tennessee among others.

In an offense that will likely be airing it out with Quinn Ewers behind center and Sarkisian calling the plays, Neyor seems like the perfect fit to compliment Worthy while also taking the offense to whole other level.
