It’s time for one young pass rusher to step into the spotlight

It’s McGuire’s time to shine

The Cleveland Browns selected defensive end Isaiah McGuire out of Missouri in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft.

After essentially taking a redshirt season in his rookie year, McGuire now has a chance to make a massive impact on the Browns. Then, McGuire really shined during the preseason where he was a constant threat in the backfield. This forced the Browns to get him on the field despite being a healthy scratch in Week 1.

Even with Wright and Ogbo Okoronkwo playing snaps through the last three weeks, the Browns have forced themselves to put the talented McGuire on the field as he has played about 15-to-20 snaps in that span.

Not only does McGuire have a chance to make an impact for the Browns, he has to make an impact with the season-ending injury to the ascending Alex Wright. He is now a core rotational pass rusher for the Browns, and with superstar Myles Garrett nursing injuries and coming off of the field more, McGuire is going to see plenty of chances.

Fresh off of what should have been a game-changing forced fumble that resulted in a defensive touchdown for the Browns, McGuire is looking to stack performances and do his job on a defense that is still asking questions five weeks into the season.

Now consider Za’Darius Smith entering the later stages of his career. McGuire’s impact on the field is not only about this year as the Browns need the young player to step into the spotlight (even if it is most immediate), but they need him to establish himself as a contributor beyond 2024 as well.

Is McGuire up for the challenge? Why wouldn’t he be? His new journey as a core rotational player starts against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Defense forces huge fumble for touchdown to get Browns back in the game

The Browns’ defense keeps them in the game!

The Cleveland Browns forced a turnover when the team needed it most against the Las Vegas Raiders as defensive end Isaiah McGuire punched the football out and safety Rodney McLeod ran it back for six.

In the fourth quarter against the Las Vegas Raiders, linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah forced a fumble that resulted in a Browns touchdown. The Browns linebacker has been quiet compared to his usual performance, and he came up big for the Browns here in the fourth quarter.

The hit on Raiders running back Zamir White jarred the ball loose and was scooped up by Browns safety Rodney Mcleod Jr. A momentum swing Cleveland desperately needed.

Jim Schwartz’s defense has lost energy against the Las Vegas offense as each possession progressed. Injuries have overcome the team’s confidence and ability to play to their full potential. This turnover will hopefully turn their hopes around and help them find their footing here in the fourth quarter. Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins missed the extra point after the defensive touchdown as Cleveland is still down a score. We’ll see if they can create another turnover to help the team secure a win.

Browns rookie Isaiah McGuire gets his first career sack vs. Bengals

The rookie gets his first sack in the NFL

The Cleveland Browns have nothing to play for and as a result, they are getting blown out by the Cincinnati Bengals who are playing most of their significant contributors. One player who is getting significant playing time as a reserve is rookie fourth-round pick defensive end Isaiah McGuire.

With how good the Browns’ defensive line has been this season they haven’t had McGuire active for most of the season let alone getting playing time. But in the second half against the Bengals, the former Tiger was able to break through and get the first sack of his career.

It has been a developmental year for McGuire but seeing him make some positive plays today has been encouraging. After seeing Alex Wright make such strides in his second season this year it gives you hope that McGuire can do the same thing. The playoffs are up next as the Browns get blown out against the Bengals to end the regular season.

Browns vets hilariously strap rookie defensive linemen with $40k dinner tab

The vets stuck the rookies with a hefty tab…

Fun, hilarious rookie hazing happens in the NFL every year, and a bit of it took place for the Cleveland Browns last night. As the team travels and spends the week in Los Angeles as they prepare for the Rams, the defensive linemen went out for dinner together. And rookie defensive linemen Siaki Ika and Isaiah McGuire got a “welcome to the NFL” moment.

As the check from the dinner came due, all of the veterans huddled around the youngsters, sticking them with a tab of nearly $40,000 on the night. They knew their famous rookie dinner was coming eventually, and the bill finally came due for McGuire and Ika.

This team seems bonded better than any other Cleveland team before them. This joint dinner among the defensive linemen headlined by a good bit of fun with the rookies is just another example. Hopefully, this all leads to a rebound win for the Browns as they stay in Los Angeles for the week.

Browns Inactives: Juan Thornhill in, Anthony Walker Jr. out vs. Broncos

The Browns have announced their inactives as Juan Thornhill will play. Anthony Walker Jr. is out against the Broncos

Coming into this Week 12 matchup against the Denver Broncos, the Cleveland Browns saw two starters with questionable designations. Safety Juan Thornhill and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. were not 100 percent to give it a go this week in practice. However, as the Browns release their inactives list, Thornhill will play in the Mile High City, while Walker Jr. will miss this matchup against the 5-5 Broncos.

Look for Sione Takitaki to start at MIKE linebacker in Walker Jr.’s absence, with Tony Fields II taking over as SAM (Takitaki’s usual post). The Browns did get linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk back from Injured Reserve this week as well to soften the blow of Walker Jr.’s nagging hamstring. To help fill the void of their missing defensive backs, the Browns also brought up two young guns from the practice squad.

Here is the full list of inactives as the Browns look to make it four straight, taking on the Broncos on the road.

Juan Thornhill, Marquise Goodwin headline Browns’ inactives vs. Steelers

The Browns will take on the Steelers without Juan Thornhill and Marquise Goodwin today.

The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers are getting set in a clash of 6-3 AFC North teams looking for the edge. The Browns will not only be without quarterback Deshaun Watson for the rest of the season, but they will be without wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and safety Juan Thornhill as well.

This means that undrafted free agent safety Ronnie Hickman will dress in this one, and wide receivers Cedric Tillman and David Bell may see more targets coming their way.

Goodwin and Thornhill are just two of the inactives announced by the Browns in this Week 11 matchup as they look to jump to 7-3 on the season. The Steelers will be without safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, defensive tackle Montravious Adams, and safety Keeanu Neal in this showdown at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Here is the full list of inactives released by the Browns as they prepare to get another win at home with Dorian Thompson-Robinson under center.

Browns announce Deshaun Watson, Cedric Tillman, 5 others as inactive vs. Seahawks

The Browns have announced their gameday inactives against the Seahawks.

The Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks are now just 90 minutes from kickoff as these two 4-2 teams get set to lock horns. And just as teams do an hour and a half before kickoff every week, the Browns have released their list of inactive players for this Week 8 bout. The announced inactives are of course headlined by quarterback Deshaun Watson as P.J. Walker will see the field for the third straight week. The other notable inactive is rookie wide receiver Cedric Tillman, who has been active in every game he has been healthy in.

This could be due to the need to bring up a practice squad offensive tackle in Ty Nsekhe. While Jedrick Wills is expected to start in this one, the Browns have added another offensive lineman to their gameday roster for added security.

Here is the full list of inactive players dropped by the Browns 90 minutes before kickoff. Can they grind out another tough win and advance to 5-2 on the season?

Browns Inactives: Ethan Pocic and David Njoku both playing vs. 49ers

As the Browns release their inactives, both David Njoku and Ethan Pocic will play despite their questionable game status

We are just under 90 minutes away from this Week 6 showdown between the beat-up Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers. The Browns will start P.J. Walker at quarterback in this game as Deshaun Watson is inactive for the second straight game. Positive for the Browns, however, is that both questionable players in tight end David Njoku and center Ethan Pocic are active despite lingering injuries.

All-Pro guard Joel Bitonio will also miss this game, breaking a streak of 102 straight games he has played for the Browns. Michael Dunn is expected to start in his absence, and rookie center Luke Wypler is active for the first time this season as Pocic remains hampered despite playing against this NFC juggernaut.

Can the Browns shock the world in this one?

Here are the gameday inactives for the Browns, led by Watson and Bitonio, who the Browns are hopeful will be back next week as they take on the Indianapolis Colts.

Browns announce Deshaun Watson and a plethora of rookies as inactive vs. Ravens

The Browns have announced their inactives for today’s matchup against the Ravens including quarterback Deshaun Watson

The Cleveland Browns are just about set to take on the Baltimore Ravens in this Week 4 AFC North showdown, and they will be doing so without their starting quarterback. Deshaun Watson has been ruled out in this game due to a contusion on his throwing shoulder as the Browns will now give him through the bye to rest. This means Dorian Thompson-Robinson will get the start for the Browns as they look to advance to 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the division.

As they do every week, the Browns have announced the rest of their inactives 90 minutes before game time. This week’s list of inactives is nearly identical to the previous weeks as well. One big name omitted is tight end David Njoku, as he will play despite sustaining burns on his arms and face during a fire pit accident at his home on Friday night.

Here is the full list of inactives the Browns have announced.
