Titans’ joint practices with Patriots have been canceled after Isaiah Bolden injury

The Titans and Patriots will no longer hold joint practices this week following a scary injury to CB Isaiah Bolden, who is thankfully OK.

After a very scary moment during the New England Patriots’ preseason Week 2 game versus the Green Bay Packers, the team has canceled its joint practices with the Tennessee Titans this week.

The decision came after Saturday’s game was called off early in the fourth quarter following a neck injury to Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden.

The Pats released this statement, which most importantly gave the update that Bolden is doing OK and has been released from the hospital after undergoing a series of tests during an overnight stay:

“After undergoing a series of evaluations and being held for overnight observations, Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden has been released from the Aurora Bay Medical Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he was transported to after sustaining an on-field injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s preseason game between the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers. Isaiah will travel with the team today. We thank the medical staff at Aurora Bay Medical Center for their overnight evaluations, as well as the Patriots and Packers medical staffs for their immediate on-field response and care in transporting Isaiah to a nearby hospital. Due to the circumstances surrounding the abrupt and unexpected ending to last night’s game, the Patriots will return to Foxborough today. The joint practices that were scheduled with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday and Wednesday are cancelled. The team will train in Foxborough this week and fly to Nashville on Thursday for Friday night’s game.”

The Titans and Pats are slated to face off in the final preseason game on Friday night, with kickoff set for 7:15 p.m. CT.

Packers lose to Patriots after preseason game ended early due to Isaiah Bolden injury

With the Patriots leading 21-17, the Packers and Patriots agreed to end the preseason game after a scary injury to Isaiah Bolden.

A frightening injury suffered by cornerback Isaiah Bolden led the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots to agree to end Saturday night’s preseason game at Lambeau Field with 10:29 left in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots led 21-17 at the time of suspension and were declared the winner.

Bolden, a rookie, was injured after being struck in the side of the helmet by a teammate on a completion from Sean Clifford to Malik Heath. Players from both teams were down on a knee while Bolden was strapped to a backboard and carted off the field after spending several minutes on the ground following the injury.

Coaches Matt LaFleur and Bill Belichick mutually agreed to suspend the game. Referee John Hussey made the announcement at Lambeau Field around 10:00 p.m. local time.

The Patriots provided a positive update on Bolden’s condition:

The Patriots took a 21-17 lead on a 17-play scoring drive during the third quarter. Bailey Zappe scored the go-ahead points on a 6-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-2 on the final play of the third quarter.

The Packers held a 14-7 lead after a Patrick Taylor touchdown run and a 17-14 lead following a 52-yard field goal from Anders Carlson. Jordan Love threw a touchdown pass to rookie Jayden Reed in the first half. Romeo Doubs caught two passes for 52 yards, and Kingsley Enagbare had two sacks and a forced fumble.

Patriots announce 2023 rookie jersey numbers ahead of preseason opener

The jersey numbers for the Patriots’ 2023 rookies have been revealed.

The New England Patriots’ 2023 NFL draft class and undrafted free agents are ditching their temporarily assigned numbers for their actual game numbers.

On Thursday, the Patriots announced all of the new numbers ahead of their preseason opener against the Houston Texans.

With rosters being at 90 players at this stage, a lot of these numbers could change as rosters are finalized and numbers shift. It is also important to note that there are some players currently wearing the same number as another player on the roster. That is permitted in training camp, as long as the players aren’t not on the same side of the ball.

Let’s take a look at what numbers the rookies have decided to go with for the next few weeks of training camp.

Madden 24 ratings for every Patriots cornerback

Did Madden get it right this year with the Patriots’ cornerbacks?

The New England Patriots are expected to enter the 2023 season with one of the NFL’s most versatile defensive backfields. But does EA Sports’ “Madden NFL 24” player ratings reflect it?

That was one of the biggest questions when the video game’s cornerback ratings were released.

To be fair, it’s no surprise that the Patriots’ defensive playmakers continue to fly under the radar, especially after the team finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs last season.

Jonathan Jones is one of the most underrated cornerbacks in the entire league, and Jack Jones is still relatively unknown in his second year. Meanwhile, rookie first-round draft pick Christian Gonzalez has yet to even take his first NFL snap.

The unit also has Marcus Jones, who earned a first-team All-Pro nod as a returner in 2022.

There is some high-level potential for coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots to tap into this season, even if it isn’t reflected in the recent ratings reveal. Here’s a look at the Madden 24 ratings for every Patriots cornerback:

Mailbag Monday 5/15: Will Kendrick Bourne be on opening day roster?

Kendrick Bourne’s future and Tom Brady’s return are both featured in this week’s mailbag.

We’re kick-starting this week’s mailbag with questions regarding the regular season roster, most notably with wideout Kendrick Bourne’s future with the New England Patriots.

Another fan touches on the Tom Brady return news, as well as the current state of the cornerback position in New England.

Be sure to follow @CamSGarrity on Twitter and submit questions to be answered on Mondays.

This is a chance to get some of your questions answered and generate good discussion across Patriots nation. Let’s get into this week’s submitted questions.

Patriots announce signings of eight rookie draft picks

Patriots officially announce the signings of eight rookie draft picks.

There have been reports of the New England Patriots agreeing to terms on deals with some of their 2023 rookie draft picks. Now, the team is announcing the official signings of eight rookie contracts.

The Patriots have locked up fourth-round draft picks Chad Ryland and Sidy Sow, fifth-round pick Atonio Mafi, sixth-round picks Kayshon Boutte, Bryce Baringer, Demario Douglas and Ameer Speed, and seventh-round pick Isaiah Bolden.

That leaves cornerback Christian Gonzalez, edge rusher Keion White, linebacker Marte Mapu and center Jake Andrews as the only Patriots draft picks that have yet to be signed.

Those contracts are expected to be done any day now.

The Patriots came out of the 2023 draft with an unusually large draft class.

But they’re obviously plowing through the paperwork and making room for what they hope will be future difference-makers for the team. They’ll need all of the help they can get after missing the playoffs last season.

If the incredibly tough 2023 schedule is any indication, it could be a long road back to relevance for New England.

Projected rookie contracts for each of the Patriots’ 2023 draft picks

What the 2023 rookie contracts could look like for the Patriots.

There will be plenty of mouths to feed for the New England Patriots with the team selecting 12 rookies in the 2023 NFL draft.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick worked his way up and down the draft board, accumulating a bevy of picks and cashing in on as many players as possible. The influx of youth should serve as a breath of fresh air for a Patriots team that needed to build depth at multiple positions, most notably cornerback, offensive line and wide receiver.

With the draft now in the rearview, the next objective for the Patriots is signing all 12 of their rookie draft picks to a deal. They’ve already signed former LSU wideout Kayshon Boutte and offensive guard Atonio Mafi to their rookie deals.

However, there are still 10 more players that have yet to put pen to paper. Here’s a look at the projected values of those contracts, via Spotrac.com.

Full seven-round Patriots’ 2023 NFL re-draft

How did the Patriots make out in our 2023 NFL re-draft?

The New England Patriots didn’t miss much in the 2023 NFL draft, which should be considered a major success for the organization.

Granted, there are no certainties until the rookies actually back up their hyped potential on the football field, but the Patriots meticulously worked their way up and down the board with great effect.

That doesn’t mean there weren’t missed opportunities for the team to capitalize on. There were plenty of potential game-changers left on the board by a Patriots team that made some bold moves in this year’s draft, including moving up to take a kicker in the fourth round.

Now that mock drafting season is over, it’s time to start exploring a 2023 re-draft for the Patriots. In this seven-round re-draft, we’re going to pretend like the board unfolds the exact same way in terms of where players are taken. A couple of the trades remain, but there is another trade thrown in that enables the Patriots to come away with a major offensive weapon.

Here’s how the draft do-over panned out:
