Lynnsie Elam and Jordy Bahl pick up Big 12 weekly awards after incredible weekend performances

After a dominant performance in a five-game set over the weekend, Lynnsie Elam and Jordy Bahl earn Big 12 weekly awards.

It was a dominant performance for the Oklahoma Sooners over the weekend as they went 5-0 with five run-rule wins in the Hall of Fame Classic in the Sooners’ home away from home in Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium.

In wins over Sam Houston, Indiana, San Diego, Houston, and Iowa, the Sooners outscored their opponents 64-2 in the five-game set to stay undefeated and improve their record to 25-0.

Though it was a total team effort from start to finish, two Sooners stood out and earned Big 12 player of the week honors.

Lynnsie Elam, who started all five games at catcher, went 5 for 9 over the weekend with four home runs, 12 RBIs, a double, and had a slugging percentage of 1.200. On Sunday, her three home run game in the Sooners 20-0 domination of Iowa tied a single-game Sooners’ record. This is the fifth time in Sooners history that a player has hit three home runs. Elam’s efforts earned her the Big 12 Player of the Week award.

Elam is now hitting .342 with seven home runs and 20 RBIs with an on-base percentage of .947 across 22 games played in 2022.

Jordy Bahl, who’s been electric for the Oklahoma Sooners in her true freshman season, earned the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week award after dazzling in three appearances this weekend.

Against Iowa on Sunday, Bahl threw her second career no-hitter with eight strikeouts and just two walks. She’s now 10-0 in 15 appearances with five complete games and three shutouts. The true freshman has a 0.92 ERA over 58.2 innings pitched, with 96 strikeouts and only 36 baserunners allowed. Opponents are hitting just .112 against her on the season as she continues to take the softball world by storm.

The Sooners take on No. 8/13 ranked Kentucky in Lexington tonight at 5 pm CDT on the SEC Network. The radio broadcast can be heard on 1560 The Franchise 2.
