Social Media reacts to Nebraska’s victory over Iowa

The Huskers end the 2022 season with a victory!

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a chance to end the 2022 season as a spoiler and did just that as they defeated Iowa 24-17 on Black Friday. A win for Iowa would have clinched the Big Ten West and a trip to Indianapolis for the Hawkeyes. Instead, the Purdue Boilermakers can clinch the west division with a win against Indiana on Saturday.
Trey Palmer had a record-setting day as the receiver passed Stanley Morgan Jr. to become the school’s single-season receiving yards leader. Palmer had nine catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns for the game. Quarterback Casey Thompson was 20-30 for 278 yards and three touchdowns.

The Nebraska defense had one of their best games of the year, holding Iowa to 272 yards of total offense on top of forcing multiple fumbles. The Hawkeyes were also an anemic 6-15 on 3rd down and had seven penalties for 65 yards.

The Cornhuskers finished the 2022 campaign with a 4-8 record. Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph ends the year with a record of 3-6 since taking over for Scott Frost on September 11th. Joseph was seen as a candidate for the permanent head coach job, but recent reports state that Matt Rhule may be the front-runner.

The victory also ends Nebraska’s seven-game losing streak to the Hawkeyes. Scroll below for social media reactions to Nebraska’s victory over Iowa.

Twitter reactions to Nebraska’s loss to Michigan

The Huskers fall to 3-7 on the season.

The No. 3 team in the country took care of business on Saturday afternoon as the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers 31-3. Michigan improved to 10-0 on the season, with the Huskers falling to 3-7 with two games remaining.
Nebraska’s offense struggled, only gaining 147 yards on the day. Injuries also stalled the offense, with starting Chubba Purdy and offensive coordinator Mark Whipple both suffering injuries during the first half. Logan Smothers came in in relief but struggled, going 4 for 8 for 15 yards.
Nebraska’s defense also had its problems. The Wolverine offense lived up to its billing as one of the best running teams in the country, with 264 yards on the ground, with star running back Blake Corum gaining 162 of those yards.
With seven losses on the season, Nebraska will miss a bowl game for another year as they have not played in the postseason since the 2016 Music City Bowl. Below are Twitter reactions to Nebraska’s 31-3 loss at the hands of the Michigan Wolverines. Scroll down to find more.

Everything Mickey Joseph had to say about the Michigan game

Kickoff on Saturday is at 2:30 pm on ABC!

Earlier today, Nebraska Interim Head Football Coach Mickey Joseph spoke with the media. The Cornhuskers will face off against the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon. The start time from Ann Arbor is 2:30 pm on ABC. Stay tuned to Cornhuskers Wire for all the latest on Nebraska’s Big Ten clash against Michigan. Later this week, we’ll have a look “Behind Enemy Lines” with our friends from Wolverines Wire.

Opening statement

“Our players came back on Sunday with good energy just like I expected. It is a relentless group. I expect them to come back the way they did. They came back with good attitudes. We all know what is in front of us. Michigan is a really good football team. They are top five in rush offense and top five in every category on defense. We know what we are getting into. We know the task at hand but it is an opportunity and the ball is going to kick off on Saturday.”

Everything Coach Mickey Joseph about Minnesota

A big game at Memorial Stadium this weekend for the Cornhuskers.

Nebraska Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph spoke with the media on Tuesday afternoon. Here is what he had to say.

Opening statement

“Tough loss on Saturday. The boys really hurt after this one, and so did the coaches. This week we just had to get back to work. I am confident that they will come back and bounce back this week. We talked this morning. They guaranteed me that they are still ready to go. They are ready to get after it and be the best team on Saturday. This time of year we are dealing with a lot of injuries, so we have the next man up mentality like we talk about every week. In this conference, you saw it last week against Illinois, you have to play sixty minutes of solid football. We showed lapses of doing it but to win games you have to play a full sixty minutes. That is what we have to get the guys to do play the full sixty minutes.”

Social Media reacts to Nebraska’s loss to Illinois

It was a rough afternoon at Memorial Stadium!

Where do you even begin? The Nebraska Cornhuskers lost their second game in a row as the Illinois Fighting Illini leave Lincoln with a 26-9 victory. However, a bigger storyline to the game was starting quarterback Casey Thompson was forced to leave the game in the first half after suffering an injury to his arm. Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph has described the injury as day-to-day.

That injury placed the offense in neutral for the remainder of the afternoon. Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple could not figure out how to use the skills of backups Chubba Purdy and Logan Smothers effectively against a talented Illinois defense. As a result, the Huskers could only muster 248 yards of total offense, including just 29 yards in the second half. Combine that with four turnovers, and you’ll find it hard to win no matter who or where you’re playing.

The defense wasn’t much better, surrendering 367 total yards of offense, including 188 yards on the ground. Star running back Chase Brown was responsible for 149 rushing yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Tommy DeVito was efficient in the pocket, going 20-22 for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

The fact is, this loss isn’t on any coach or players. This was a collective defeat at the hands of a talented Illinois football team. Where the season goes from here is anyone’s guess. How will this loss affect the head coaching search? Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph had a big feather in his cap with the commitment of Malachi Coleman of Lincoln East High School earlier this week. He also made waves when Ohio State commit, and the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2024, Dylan Raiola, decided to take a visit to Lincoln. This loss will most definitely take some of the shine off those accomplishments.

Four games are left in the regular season, and the Huskers can still make a bowl game. Mickey and the staff have shown they are willing to put in the hard work to get this program back on track. But the fact of the matter is it’s not translating to the field. Big changes are on the horizon for Nebraska football. What those changes are will be anyone’s guess.

Analyst discusses head coaching candidates for Nebraska job

Some interesting names were discussed around the head coach’s job.

An analyst with one of the top recruiting services in the country has discussed his shortlist for the head football coach at Nebraska. Jesse Simonton discussed the position earlier in the week, and when looking over this list, there are no significant surprises as every candidate mentioned has been previously mentioned in some way, shape, or form to the job.
Athletic Director Travis Alberts has repeatedly said that he will conduct a thorough search and will make his decision and announce it when he feels it would be appropriate. He will operate and coordinate this search for his needs. When asked about the characteristics he is looking for in a future head coach, the A.D. said the following.

Blackshirts won’t return this season

The tradition dates back to 1964!

It’s official; The Blackshirts will not be returning to Nebraska football this season. Interim head coach Mickey Joseph made the announcement during his Thursday appearance on the Husker Radio Network.

“I think with this group, being a Blackshirt adds more pressure to them. And if they don’t play well, then they get a whole bunch of negative comments about the Blackshirts. We’re talking about being just a team, so we’re going to be a team right now and we’re going to let the Blackshirts sit down for a while. We won’t give them back this year so everybody can stop wondering what we’re going to do. They’re not getting them back this year.”

Nebraska had previously awarded The Blackshirts before the Northwestern game in Dublin, Ireland. However, coach Joseph took those Blackshirts away when he assumed head coach duties.

Below is a collection of social media reactions regarding the announcement that The Blackshirts will not return this season.
