Blackshirts won’t return this season

The tradition dates back to 1964!

It’s official; The Blackshirts will not be returning to Nebraska football this season. Interim head coach Mickey Joseph made the announcement during his Thursday appearance on the Husker Radio Network.

“I think with this group, being a Blackshirt adds more pressure to them. And if they don’t play well, then they get a whole bunch of negative comments about the Blackshirts. We’re talking about being just a team, so we’re going to be a team right now and we’re going to let the Blackshirts sit down for a while. We won’t give them back this year so everybody can stop wondering what we’re going to do. They’re not getting them back this year.”

Nebraska had previously awarded The Blackshirts before the Northwestern game in Dublin, Ireland. However, coach Joseph took those Blackshirts away when he assumed head coach duties.
