Wednesday injury report for Cowboys vs. Commanders, Week 18

The Commanders open the week with a long injury report.

The Washington Commanders began their final week of practice Wednesday with another quarterback change. Head coach Ron Rivera announced rookie Sam Howell would start Sunday’s season finale against the Dallas Cowboys.

If we judge Wednesday’s injury report for Washington, the Commanders could be extremely shorthanded for the finale as 11 players missed practice.

Here’s the complete list:

  • DT Jonathan Allen [knee]
  • G/T Saahdiq Charles [concussion]
  • S Kam Curl [ankle]
  • LB Jamin Davis [knee]
  • RB Antonio Gibson [knee/foot]
  • RT Cornelius Lucas [ankle]
  • G Andrew Norwell [hip]
  • RB Brian Robinson Jr. [knee]
  • DE James Smith-Williams [concussion]
  • CB Benjamin St-Juste [ankle]
  • DE Montez Sweat [illness]

Allen is the premier name on this list. The Commanders dodged a bullet when Allen’s knee injury Sunday wasn’t determined to be serious. Considering Week 18 is meaningless in the standings, playing Allen doesn’t make sense.

Curl and St-Juste continue to miss time with ankle injuries. St-Juste has played once since Week 11, and Curl has missed the last two games. Washington has greatly missed both players as the secondary has resumed giving up big plays.

Gibson missed last week’s game, and likely doesn’t play in the season finale. Robinson has been listed on the injury report in recent weeks but hasn’t missed a game.

With starting left guard Andrew Norwell on the injury report, perhaps Washington turns to rookie Chris Paul to start in Week 18.

The Cowboys, who are playing for a chance to win the NFC East and the No. 1 overall seed, had just two players miss practice Wednesday.

Commanders injury updates following preseason week 2 vs. Chiefs

The Washington Commanders are a banged-up group right now.

The Washington Commanders entered Saturday’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs banged up. Washington had several players sit with minor injuries, such as tight ends John Bates and Cole Turner and offensive linemen Charles Leno, Andrew Norwell, Trai Turner and Wes Schweitzer.

Initially, many figured Leno, Washington’s starting left tackle, sat because there was no reason for him to play. However, after the game, head coach Ron Rivera said Leno didn’t travel with the team due to “a slight medical issue.”

Rivera didn’t get into specifics on Leno, but it doesn’t appear serious.

The Commanders only had two of their projected five starting offensive linemen on the field Saturday. One of them, center Chase Roullier, was back on the field for the first time since Week 8 last season due to a broken fibula.

For Roullier, there were no setbacks, and he is on track for Week 1 vs. Jacksonville.

“I think this game just built my confidence more and my ability to do that week one and barring any setbacks I think we are going to be good to go,” Roullier said after the game.

During the game, cornerback Corn Elder, who is having a strong training camp, was injured in the end zone when he nearly came down with an interception. Nicki Jhavala of The Washington Post reported Elder was in concussion protocol.

Reserve defensive end Bunmi Rotimi, who flashed at times last season and is battling to make the roster, left the game with a leg injury. There were no updates on his status following the game.

Finally, undrafted rookie tight end Armani Rogers left the game with an undisclosed injury. It’s unknown the severity of his injury or if he’ll miss any time.

Rogers started the game with so many injuries at tight end and continues to stake his claim for a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Commanders are back on the field next Saturday for the preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens. We’ll keep you posted on Washington’s numerous injuries throughout the week.

Browns vs Packers final injury report: JJ3, 4 Packers out

Only one listed as out for the Browns, four for the Packers on the final injury report of the week:

The Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers will not be fully healthy when they match up on Christmas Day. A number of players that would have played roles in the game were listed as out of the final injury report of the week.

The Browns will be without safety John Johnson III who injured his hamstring late in their Week 15 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Packers will be without four players who were listed as out:

  • OT David Bakhtiari
  • OL Billy Turner
  • WR Malik Taylor
  • LB Ty Summers

Cleveland will also have two players listed as questionable for the game:

  • DE Myles Garrett
  • DT Malik Jackson

Garrett would not have been able to practice all week with his groin injury while Jackson would have been able to limitedly practice by Thursday.

Green Bay only has one player listed as questionable:

  • TE Dominique Dafney

Dafney was listed as limited all week.

The Browns are still hoping and planning on getting a few players back from the reserve/COVID-19 list before kickoff as well.

Wednesday injury report for Washington vs. Eagles, Week 15

Remember the “Body Bag Game?” Here’s Wednesday’s injury report where we remember that game from 1990.

Does anyone remember the infamous “Body Bag Game” between Washington and the Philadelphia Eagles back in 1990? That was a Monday night game back on Nov. 12, 1990, at the old Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia.

Nine Washington players were injured in that game, including both quarterbacks, Jeff Rutledge and Stan Humphries. Washington already entered the game without starting quarterback Mark Rypien. So, Washington had to turn to a rookie running back named Brian Mitchell to finish the game at quarterback.

You’ve probably heard of Mitchell. He is one of the greatest return men in NFL history and a Washington legend. Mitchell played quarterback in college at the University of Southwestern Louisiana — now the University of Lousiana at Lafayette.

The Eagles won the game, 28-14.

Washington’s opponent this week happens to the Eagles — in Philadelphia. Why is this significant? Because this may be a “Body Bag Game” for Washington before the team ever touches down in Philly this weekend. Washington has several key injuries heading into Week 15, including wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel.

As the team returned to practice Wednesday, several notable players did not participate, including McLaurin, Samuel, center Keith Ismael and running back J.D. McKissic. Ismael is noteworthy because he’s Washington’s fourth center.

Here’s the full injury report for both Washington and Philadelphia.

Ok, those are just the injuries. Washington has 12 players on the reserve/COVID-19 list. And the names are notable. Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle, Kendall Fuller, Cornelius Lucas, Cam Sims and Montez Sweat are just some of the names on the COVID list.

Things don’t appear to be getting better anytime soon, as Washington has placed players on the COVID list every day this week.

More injuries to add to a ridiculous growing list

This injury list is getting a bit ridiculous.

It has just been one bad blow after bad blow for the LSU Tigers. Going into Saturday, it felt manageable for the team. However, since Sunday it has just gotten worse as the Florida game gets closer.

Since that point, the team has lost Kayshon Boutte, Joseph Evans, Eli Ricks, and Ali Gaye for the season. Major Burns is out until at least the Alabama game on Nov. 6.

Based on the number of growing injuries, it is hard to justify how this game against Florida can come out in their favor.

Player Position Injury Status
Andre Anthony DE Knee out for season
Kayshon Boutte WR undisclosed out for season
Myles Brennan QB arm out indefinitely
Major Burns DB undisclosed out Saturday
John Emery Jr RB Academics out for season
Joseph Evans DT undisclosed out for season
Ali Gaye DE undisclosed out for season
Glen Logan DT foot available
Eli Ricks DB undisclosed out for season
Jared Small LB undisclosed out for season
Deion Smith WR undisclosed doubtful
Derek Stingley Jr DB Foot out indefinitely

Gaye was the latest player to be out according to Brody Miller of The Athletic.
