Indianapolis put up an offensive dud in a 25-16 Week 3 road loss at the Tennessee Titans due in part to Colts QB Carson Wentz playing on two sprained ankles. Wentz suffered the injuries in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams and was questionable to play up until kickoff.

The Colts failed to cover the spread as 4.5-point road underdogs despite being plus-3 in turnover differential. Wentz was 19-for-37 passing for 194 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions against a weak Tennessee defense.

Miami lost in a 31-28 overtime nail-biter at the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3 but covered as a 3.5-point underdog. It was backup QB Jacoby Brissett‘s first start for the Dolphins.

Brissett completed 32 of 49 passes for 215 yards without a TD or INT but did send the game into overtime with a 1-yard TD run in the final seconds of regulation.

Colts at Dolphins head-to-head

The Colts and Dolphins last met in 2019 when Miami went into Indianapolis in Week 10 and upset the Colts 16-12 as 11-point underdogs in Dolphins’ head coach Brian Flores’ first year on the job.

Coincidently, that was the year former Colts QB Andrew Luck abruptly retired and Brissett took over the starting role in Indianapolis. Despite that Brissett started 15 of the 16 regular-season games for Indianapolis the tilt against Miami was his lone absence.

Rams at Colts head-to-head

Being in different conferences, the Rams and Colts don’t square off very often. They play just once every four years, with their most recent meeting coming in 2017. That was Sean McVay’s first game as head coach of the Rams, a blowout 46-9 victory by Los Angeles at home.

The Rams also beat the Colts 38-8 in 2013 when they were still residing in St. Louis and were led by QB Kellen Clemens and his 247 yards with 2 touchdowns. The matchup before that came in 2009, a 42-6 win by the Colts on the road.

So in the last three meetings, the average margin of victory has been 34.3 points. The favorite is 2-1 in the last three meetings between these two teams and the total went to the Over three times.
