How well will the San Antonio Spurs do in the In-Season Tournament?

The San Antonio Spurs are set to roll out a new-look rotation this season, with the new look taking the form of a 7-foot-5 Frenchman projected to dominate the league. San Antonio’s roster looks very similar to last year’s, but the addition of Victor Wembanyama should take them to new heights next year and beyond.

The NBA will also be introducing a new event this year – the In-Season Tournament. Each team will be in a group with four other squads, and the winner of each group (and two wild cards from each conference) will advance to a knockout bracket. The Spurs’ group consists of them, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Sacramento Kings, and the Golden State Warriors.

On a recent edition of “Locked On Spurs,” host Jeff Garcia and KENS 5’s Casey Viera discussed the Spurs chances in the In-Season Tournament and whether or not they could go undefeated.

Do the Chicago Bulls have a shot to win the NBA In-Season Tournament?

The Chicago Bulls may not project to be a championship contender, but could they win the In-Season Tournament?

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Despite their clear push forward two years ago, the Chicago Bulls have been unable to find stable success. A red-hot start to the 2021-22 season was met with second-half struggles and a five-game elimination in the first round at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks. And this past year, they failed to even make it out of the Play-In Tournament.

That being said, they still have stars. Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic are all multi-time All-Stars capable of winning the Bulls some games. But how far can they take them? While the ceiling of the squad may not be a championship, can they set their sights on a different title?

This year, the NBA is introducing the first-ever In-Season Tournament, and Haize and Pat The Designer of “Locked On Bulls” sat down to discuss Chicago’s chances of winning.

With the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, Toronto Raptors, and Brooklyn Nets in their group, do the Bulls have a chance at winning the inaugural event?

Evan Wash, the NBA’s Executive Vice President of Basketball Strategy and Analytics, appeared on ESPN’s “NBA Today” show to discuss the format and goals of the new tournament.

The format features group play leading to knockout stages, strategically timed to invigorate the regular season without disrupting playoff aspirations. Feedback from teams has been positive; enthusiasm has surrounded the tournament’s launch. However, success will be gauged through viewership, attendance and fan feedback.

What Kristaps Porzingis’ foot injury means for the Boston Celtics

Porzingis announced on Tuesday morning that he is suffering from a foot injury, plantar fasciitis, after undergoing an MRI.

Star Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis announced on Tuesday morning that he is suffering from plantar fasciitis. The announcement came after he underwent an MRI.

While not optimal news, the condition is usually minor and can be managed. However, it is a blow to Porzingis’ hopes of leading Latvia in World Cup play, and it will need to be monitored moving forward.

The European big man will sit out the 2023 FIBA World Cup as he recovers ahead of the Celtics’ 2023-24 campaign. The NBA also announced the in-season tournament schedule ahead of the league’s full 2023-24 season schedule release that will be made public later this week.

CLNS Media’s Bobby Manning breaks down both Boston news items from today on the “Garden Report” podcast.

What do we need to know about the NBA’s new in-season tournament?

Is the tournament a positive change for the sport?

What do we need to know about the NBA‘s new in-season tournament?

The new tourney, which will take place as part of the league’s regular season save for the title and consolation games to be played in Las Vegas, Nevada, does not guarantee a playoff spot or confer anything of value — though it does have cash prizes for the winning team and the runner-up franchise.

This has caused many to speculate as to whether the tournament is a positive change for the sport, particularly given the seeming lack of purpose and meaningful impact on the season or playoffs.

Such was the tack taken by the hosts of the Peacock “Brother from a Different Mother” podcast in the clip embedded below.

Take a look at it to hear their takes on the new in-season tournament, and why they remain skeptical about its potential.

Why the NBA’s new in-season tournament will be a winner

The NBA’s new in-season tournament, set to debut in the 2023-24 season, was created to bring more meaning, money, and viewership to the first half of the season.

The NBA’s new in-season tournament, set to debut in the 2023-24 season, was created to bring more meaning, money and viewership to the first half of the season for the Boston Celtics and the rest of the league.

The tournament is integrated into the existing 82-game regular season. Games in the tournament will count toward the standings. It may also discourage tanking given the increased importance those early games will have.

The tournament provides new opportunities for media rights holders as well, potentially increasing the value of future media rights deals.

How hard is the Boston Celtics’ group for the new in-season tournament?

The Celtics have been placed in a group with the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, and Orlando Magic.

The NBA announced a new in-season tournament with group stages followed by a knockout stage, and we know what group the Boston Celtics will be in for the 2023-24 season.

The tournament games will be played on designated tournament nights, mostly on Tuesdays and Fridays, and will be counted as regular-season games.

The Celtics were placed in a group with the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic. Pending the moves those clubs make, Boston’s group is considered one of the easier ones to forge a path to winning the league’s inaugural in-season tournament cup.

To talk over Boston’s group placement and the tourney more generally, the hosts of the “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast linked up for a recent episode focused on it.
