Raptors’ Precious Achiuwa backs up Jaylen Brown’s critique of in-season tournament courts’ safety

“I’m extra cautious,” explained Achiuwa. “Ending up on the floor is kind of like, OK, I’m checking myself. I’m trying to make sure everything is intact.”

If All-NBA Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown‘s loud critique of the safety of the NBA’s new in-season tournament (IST) courts were not enough after the NBPA vice president slipped and hurt himself on one in Boston’s 108-105 win over the Toronto Raptors, Toronto big man Precious Achiuwa confirmed that the new IST courts were concerningly slippery for him as well.

“It was slippery,” said Achiuwa postgame via The Athletic’s Eric Koreen of the new, paint-covered courts that have been getting press more for their aesthetic shortcomings than safety issues, at least until Friday night. “I fell myself a few times.

“A couple of times I ended up on the floor,” added the Raptors center. “I slipped a few times.”

“I’m extra cautious,” explained Achiuwa. “Ending up on the floor is kind of like, OK, I’m checking myself. I’m trying to make sure everything is intact.”

“At the end of the day, I just want to hoop,” he closed, reflecting Brown’s perspective in fewer — if equally important — words.

Chicago was in the game until the very end, and an Alex Caruso three put them in a great position. But Franz Wagner helped seal the deal for the Magic, Eurostepping his way to a 103-97 victory over the Bulls.

Zach LaVine poured in 34 points and was making some big shots late in the game, but it wasn’t enough to help lead the Bulls to a win. DeMar DeRozan chipped in with 23, and Caruso has 18 as a member of the starting lineup.

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown criticizes safety of new in-season tournament courts

“Tonight I thought the floor was unacceptable,” said Brown.

The NBA’s new in-season tournament (IST) has proven more popular with players than many expected, with the level of play clearly higher than it usually would be in the month of November. But when it comes to how the new, heavily painted courts for the IST are being received, it’s safe to say they are a dud for more than aesthetic reasons.

On top of the frequent complaints about the visual impact of the courts and the rushed mistakes they brought with them, there are now concerns about their safety after star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown slipped and hurt his groin in Boston’s IST win vs. the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.

Speaking postgame, the Players Union vice president spoke up on the courts and their potential risk.

Celtics remain undefeated in in-season tournament play, beat Raps 108-105

Boston managed to outlast a furious assault from the Raptors, the Celtics hanging on to stay undefeated in IST tournament play.

The Boston Celtics made the trek to Ontario to play the Toronto Raptors on the road Friday night, their first trip to Canada this season and second in-season tournament (IST) tilt in it overall and vs. Toronto. The Raps came out strong to jump out to an 8-point lead, but the Celtics roared back to a 16-point lead Toronto would walk down to brief leads in the third and fourth quarters of the game.

Boston managed to outlast a furious assault from the Raptors, the Celtics hanging on to stay undefeated in IST tournament play with a 108-105 win. Big games from Jaylen Brown (23 points, 4 assists), Jayson Tatum (17 points, 7 rebounds), Kristaps Porzingis (14 points, 12 boards, 5 assists, 3 blocks), and Jrue Holiday (14 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) helped secure the win.

The bench was strong as well with Sam Hauser and Al Horford adding 11 points each.

Is a Boston Celtics vs. Denver Nuggets Final the best hope for the NBA’s in-season tournament?

The Celtics fan base would be thrilled if they win the tournament, but if they lose, no one will care.

The NBA’s new in-season tournament (IST) has begun, but it seems that not many people are excited about it. The players don’t seem interested, and even the fans don’t have a strong connection to it. The tournament, which was pushed by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, features funky courts and new jerseys, but it feels like just another regular season game to some.

The Boston Celtics, who won their first game in the tournament, may have a chance to make it to the championship round, but the real excitement will come if they face off against the defending champion Denver Nuggets in the title game of the IST. The Celtics fan base would be thrilled if they win the tournament, but if they lose, no one will care. The future of the tournament will depend on the outcome of the championship game, and if it doesn’t live up to expectations, people may lose interest.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast recently weighed in on exactly such a scenario on a recent episode.

Check it out above!

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla responds to Dennis Schroder’s ire over late challenge in Raps’ drubbing

“Up 30 you’re not supposed to challenge nothing.” said former Boston guard Dennis Schroder of Mazzulla’s late call dispute.

When Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla challenged an out-of-bounds call on a play late in the Celtics’ 117-94 drubbing of the Toronto Raptors at TD Garden on Saturday night, it rubbed some of the Raptors the wrong way.

Given the contest was part of the group play segment of the NBA’s new in-season tournament where point differentials impact a club’s ability to advance, it might have added some extra impetus for the Raps’ players being extra salty about Boston’s evident desire to leverage every opportunity available to them in the contest. But former Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder in particular had some sharp words for the situation postgame.

“Up 30 you’re not supposed to challenge nothing. You won, it’s three minutes left. You shouldn’t disrespect us like that,” said the German floor general to the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn.

Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets: How to watch, broadcast, lineups

The Boston Celtics will host the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden on Friday for the first game of their slate of games for the NBA’s new in-season tournament.

The Boston Celtics will host the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden on Friday for the first game of their slate of games for the NBA’s new in-season tournament and what Boston hopes will be its first win after dropping two games in a row after a hot start to the season.

If you happen to be looking for a way to watch the on-court action live on cable television or a local or national online streaming service that carries the game, keep reading while we get you up to speed on everything else you need to know about the game. Along with player injuries and likely starters for both teams, we of course will have how to watch it listed below.

Let’s begin with the players available to play.

What is the Boston Celtics’ group in the in-season tournament, and when do they play it?

The winners from each group advance to the knockout stage along with a wildcard team from each conference with the next-best record in group play.

The Boston Celtics are set to kick off their first-ever run at the title for the NBA’s new in-season tournament as part of one of the six groups of five teams who will play one another during the tournament’s group play stage. Those groups are split between the league’s Eastern and Western Conferences — three from each — with a random drawing based on last season’s record deciding which ball clubs end up in which of the three groups.

In group play, each team within that group will play one another one time, with individual teams splitting that play between two home and two away games taking place on Tuesdays and Fridays in November with special courts to distinguish the titles from regular season games (the record will still count for the regular season record as well).
