Buffalo Bills sign CB Brian Allen

Buffalo Bills have signed cornerback Brian Allen, the team announced.

The Buffalo Bills have had some movement in their secondary at the cornerback position recently. In response, the team signed cornerback Brian Allen.

The team announced the move on Friday.

Allen’s signing comes after the team held a workout with Allen and two other cornerbacks on Tuesday. Allen, 26, was a fifth-round pick of the Steelers in 2017 and has only played special teams in his career. Allen does have excellent length for a defensive back though, standing awt 6-foot-3. He was recently released by the Seahawks.

Allen has a chance to battle for a depth spot on Buffalo’s roster. Potential No. 2 corner Josh Norman has battled a hamstring injury recently while UDFA rookie Ike Brown retired earlier this week.

Bills workout 3 CBs, release Niles Scott via injury

Buffalo Bills had three cornerback workouts after releasing Niles Scott.

The Bills had a few minor roster items to note on Tuesday via the NFL’s transaction wire.

Per the list, the Bills have released Niles Scott via injury settlement. The defensive tackle signed with the Bills on Aug. 2 and was previously placed on waivers due to an undisclosed injury on Aug. 16, went unclaimed and the 24-year-old reached that settlement with the team on Tuesday. The Bills had since added Tanzel Smart and Justin Zimmer to their depth at the position.

The more interesting set of notes on the list were the Bills’ listed workouts. Buffalo brought in three cornerbacks to do so, Brian Allen, Charles Oliver and Kobe Williams. Allen, 26, was a fifth-round pick of the Steelers in 2017 and has only played special teams in his career. He was recently released by the Seahawks.

Oliver and Williams are both undrafted rookie free agents out of Texas A&M and Arizona State, respectively.

The Bills’ decision to workout all three comes on the heels of undrafted rookie cornerback Ike Brown surprisingly retiring on Monday. In addition, veteran Josh Norman is currently battling a hamstring issue.

Bills rookie CB Ike Brown retires

Rookie cornerback who was a UDFA of the Buffalo Bills after the 2020 NFL Draft retires.

Buffalo Bills rookie cornerback Ike Brown has retired, the team has announced. Brown was reportedly not at the club’s Monday training camp session,

Brown was an undrafted rookie signee of the Bills out of FIU following the 2020 NFL Draft. The Bills completed their seventh full practice at this year’s constrained offseason due to the coronavirus the same day. Brown was  the first player from the Bills to be added to the team’s reserve/ COVID-19 list earlier this offseason as he tested positive for the virus. However, Brown later returned to the team. He also chose to not opt out of playing due to the virus earlier this offseason.

Brown was brought back on the team’s roster and Buffalo did release players in order to do so. Brown and Siran Neal were activated from the reserve/ COVID-19 list and in a corresponding set of moves, running back Antonio Williams and defensive end Jonathan Woodard were released by the team to make room.

Earlier this month, wide receiver Duke Williams was also brought back from the reserve/ COVID-19 list. When Buffalo added him back to their roster, cornerback Akeem King was signed by the team. King’s name might be one to watch in regard to replacing Brown on the roster.

While a shot to the team’s depth at the cornerback position as far as training camp is concerned, Brown was having an up-and-down training camp. He was considered a longshot for the team’s final 53-man roster.

Bills bring back Siran Neal, Ike Brown from COVID list, cut two others

Buffalo Bills defensive backs Siran Neal, Ike Brown, activated from COVID-19 list while Antonio Williams, Jonathan Woodard are released.

The Buffalo Bills brought a pair of players back from their COVID-19/ Reserve list on Wednesday. Defensive backs Ike Brown and Siran Neal re-join the team’s roster following their designation for the coronavirus.

In a corresponding set of moves, running back Antonio Williams and defensive end Jonathan Woodard were released by the team.

Both Williams and Brown are undrafted rookie free agent signings of the Bills from earlier this offseason. However, the Bills’ cornerback room took a hit last week when EJ Gaines decided to opt out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19. By comparison, the Bills’ running back room is set with Devin Singletary and Zack Moss at the top, along with TJ Yeldon and Taiwan Jones in backup roles.

Neal is expected to feature as a versatile defender for the Bills in 2020, as both a safety and potential nickel cornerback.

Woodard has bounced around the league, and only appeared in regular season action in 2018 for the Dolphins. The Bills’ defensive end room is also one of the deeper groups on the team’s roster as things currently sit.

The Bills do currently have one open roster spot, but it’s expected that will be taken by offensive lineman Brian Winters in the coming days. Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane previously said that new signees might have to wait up to five days before joining their new teammates due to safety precautions involving the coronavirus.

Bills’ Ike Brown placed on reserve/ COVID-19 list

Buffalo Bills cornerback Ike Brown is on the COVID-19 list.

The Buffalo Bills have added cornerback Ike Brown to the reserve/ COVID-19 list on Monday. Brown was an undrafted rookie free agent signee of the Bills out of FIU following the 2020 NFL Draft.

Brown becomes the first player from the Bills to be added to this coronavirus-related list. Since Brown’s addition, Bills defensive tackle Star Lotulelei has decided to opt-out of playing in 2020 because of the ongoing pandemic.

The list does not mean Brown has tested positive for the virus, although, he could have. But Brown might be on the list because he’s been instructed to quarantine because he has been in contact with another person who has the virus.

In total, 22 players across the NFL were placed on that list from teams on Monday. Also among those was Dolphins long snapper Blaker Ferguson, who’s the brother of Reid Ferguson, Buffalo’s long snapper. However, Reid Ferguson took to his social media account via Twitter and said he hasn’t seen his brother in-person in a month.
