Notre Dame corner stars in Hula Bowl

Nick McCloud played just one year at Notre Dame but starred on a great defense. McCloud made a few huge plays in the Hula Bowl this week.

Over the weekend much attention was spent by football fans becoming familiar with future NFL players at the annual Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

Notre Dame had more invitees than any other program so the eyes of Irish fans could have easily been too focused on that to have seen a former cornerback have quite the performance in the Hula Bowl.

Nick McCloud, who played 2020 with Notre Dame after transferring from North Carolina State, won the Defensive MVP honors in the Hula Bowl Sunday after recording a pair of interceptions.

The first of those interceptions came against former Indiana and Northwestern quarterback, Peyton Ramsey.

McCloud followed that pick up with a fourth-quarter interception.

The two interceptions helped Team Kai hold onto a 15-13 victory over Team Aina in what was very likely the final game ever played in Aloha Stadium.

Naquan Jones announced a few days ago that he accepted an invite to play in the 2021 Hula Bowl. It looks like accepting that invite paid off, and perhaps  has raised his draft stock. Jones was on the winning side as Team Kai defeated Team ‘Aina 15-13.

Late in the second quarter on a big third down, Jones lined up across from the right guard. Payton Ramsay, Northwestern quarterback, hiked the ball and Jones used a swim move to get to the outside of right guard Braylon Jones. Ramsey moved up in the pocket and Jones spun back around and was able to get to Ramsey for the sack.

It’s these types of play shows why Jones should be playing on Sundays in 2021 and beyond.

Two Ohio State players heading to Hula Bowl

Two Ohio State players are heading to Hawaii to take part in the Hula Bowl to showcase their talents for the NFL Draft.

Two Ohio State players have agreed to play in the Hula Bowl in January. The Hula Bowl, much like the Senior Bowl, is an invite-only showcase for college football players heading to the draft. It is located in Hawaii and has been around since 1960. With players starting to get invites to the bowls to improve draft stock, this now makes four confirmed Buckeyes heading to the two bowls.

Earlier we reported Tuf Borland and Trey Sermon heading to the Reese’s Senior Bowl. It is now been confirmed that Thayer Munford and Jonathon Cooper will be taking part in the Hula Bowl. Both players are trying to improve their draft stock and playing against other top college players will certainly help.
