Roughnecks at Brahmas picks and predictions

Prediction

Roughnecks 23, Brahmas 13

Moneyline

Although Houston has lost 3 straight it should get back on track against a San Antonio team that hasn’t scored more than 15 points in any game. Plus, the Brahmas have not won a game at home this season yet.

But having to bet twice what you can win on the Roughnecks on the moneyline isn’t the best bet here. PASS and look to the spread.

Against the spread

Houston has scored 22 or more points in 5 of 7 games this season and the Roughnecks’ 4 wins have all been by at least 9 points.

Three of the Brahmas’ 5 losses have been by 9 or more points. San Antonio needs its defense to hold off the Roughnecks, because the offense has scored only 9 TDs and hasn’t topped 15 points in a game this season.

BET ROUGHNECKS -5.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Only 3 of Houston’s 7 games have had more than 40 points. Meanwhile, the Brahmas have only had 1 game all season go past 40 total points. Scoring 15 points or less in every game makes that hard to do.

BET UNDER 40.5 (-110).

St. Louis Battlehawks at Houston Roughnecks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s St. Louis Battlehawks at Houston Roughnecks Week 7 odds and lines, with expert XFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The St. Louis Battlehawks (4-2) visit the Houston Roughnecks (4-2) Sunday in Week 7 XFL action at TDECU Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET (ESPN/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Battlehawks vs. Roughnecks odds, and make our expert XFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Battlehawks posted a 29-6 win at Vegas last week as a 3-point favorite, bouncing back from a loss at home to the undefeated DC Defenders in Week 5. St. Louis has alternated losses and wins against the spread (ATS) in each of the first 6 weeks.

QB A.J. McCarron has completed an XFL-best 67.5% of his pass attempts while posting 1,322 yards with a league-best 14 TD and 4 INT through 6 games. It isn’t all great for McCarron, though, as he has been sacked an XFL-most 20 times.

While the offense gets a lot of the headlines, the defense has allowed just 12.5 points per game (PPG) in its 4 games against all teams other than DC.

The Roughnecks started out 4-0 SU and ATS, but it has dropped the last 2 games at Seattle and DC, going 0-2 ATS while allowing 29.0 PPG. Houston made headlines signing former Los Angeles Chargers WR Michael Bandy this week, looking to boost the offense.

Battlehawks at Roughnecks picks and predictions

Prediction

Battlehawks 25, Roughnecks 22

Moneyline

The BATTLEHAWKS (+130) are a solid play on the road, as this offense is really humming. McCarron is solid, especially on the off chance he actually gets protection, and the defense is on a roll, too.

There have been some rumblings that the Roughnecks (-155) could potentially change up the QB position, even though Brandon Silvers has completed 61.8% of his passes for 1,300 yards, 11 TD and 5 INT. That’s because of the 2-game losing streak, and the fact QB Cole McDonald provided a spark last week in DC. Stay tuned.

Against the spread

The BATTLEHAWKS +3 (-110) are worth playing if you don’t trust them straight up. It will be especially solid if you can catch St. Louis with 3 and the hook at some point before kickoff.

The Roughnecks -3 (-110) opened 4-0 ATS, but they have failed to cover the last 2 games, yielding 29.0 PPG in the process. Facing the pass-happy Battlehawks will be bad news for the Houston defense.

Over/Under

The OVER 44.5 (-110) is quite a high number. In fact, it’s the 2nd-highest total this season in the XFL. Both of these teams are 3-3 on totals, so there isn’t much to glean there. But McCarron has had a great season, helping the team roll up 20 or more points in 5 straight games, and Houston has allowed 29.0 PPG in the last 2 outings.

We might not get into the 50’s in this Week 7 clash, but high 40’s is a very good possibility as the XFL wraps up the week with a good game on Sunday.

Houston Roughnecks at D.C. Defenders odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Houston Roughnecks at D.C. Defenders Week 6 odds and lines, with expert XFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Roughnecks (4-1) come to the nation’s capital to face the D.C. Defenders (5-0) on Monday at 7 p.m. ET at Audi Field (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Roughnecks vs. Defenders odds, and make our expert XFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Defenders are the last undefeated team in the XFL and they are taking on a Houston teams that’s best in the South Division.

The Roughnecks lost for the 1st time this season last week, 21-14 to the Seattle Sea Dragons. Houston forced 4 turnovers, but was held scoreless until the 4th quarter.

The Defenders beat the St. Louis Battlehawks 28-20 behind a solid run game. While QB Jordan Ta’amu did not throw a TD, RB Abram Smith ran for 3 scores.

Roughnecks vs. Defenders picks and predictions

Prediction

Roughnecks 18, Defenders 15

Moneyline

The Roughnecks are a TD machine, leading the league with 18 scores, 4 more than the Defenders. Where they really get you is from the deep ball. The Roughnecks have 7 passes of at least 40 yards, and no other team has more than 3; the Defenders have 1.

LEAN ROUGHNECKS +125.

Against the spread

Both of these teams not only win but cover as well. Last week’s loss was the only time Houston did not cover and D.C. is 5-0 ATS. Since I am riding Houston, you can bet BET ROUGHNECKS +2.5 (-110), although the moneyline is a better value.

Over/Under

The Roughnecks and Defenders are 1-2 in interceptions and 1-2 in the number of kickoff returns per game. I expect field goals, but not touchdowns.

LEAN UNDER 42.5 (-110).

Roughnecks at Sea Dragons picks and predictions

Prediction

Roughnecks 36, Sea Dragons 29

Moneyline

Houston is the highest-scoring team in the league. Seattle is No. 1 in yards, but does lead the league in turnovers.

This is a June Jones offense against a Wade Phillips defense. The Roughnecks lead the XFL in sacks and interceptions. Seattle has the league’s top two receivers and the leading rusher.

Houston has strength on both sides of the ball. However, betting the Roughnecks on the moneyline isn’t worth the action when you can make a good wager on the spread.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Roughnecks have not won a game by fewer than 9 points this season. Seattle’s two losses have been by 2 and 4 points.

Houston seems a cut above almost everyone else in the league right now.

BET ROUGHNECKS -3 (-110).

Over/Under

The Sea Dragons have had only 1 game this season with more than 40 points. The Roughnecks have had 2.

With a game featuring 1 team as the league’s leader in scoring and the other as the league’s leader in total offense, there should be points scored.

BET OVER 42.5 (-115).

Houston Roughnecks at Orlando Guardians odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Houston Roughnecks at Orlando Guardians Week 4 odds and lines, with expert XFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Roughnecks (3-0) visit the Orlando Guardians (0-3) in Week 4 on Saturday. Kick from Camping World Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (FX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Roughnecks vs. Guardians odds, and make our expert XFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Roughnecks have had an impressive start to their season with a 3-0 record thus far. In Week 1, they toppled Orlando 33-12 and followed that up with a 23-14 home win in Week 2 and a 22-13 home victory in Week 3. This week will be their first road game of the season.

Orlando has struggled mightily this season. It is 0-3 and before last week had not kept a game within 18 points, opening up the season with a 33-12 loss followed by a Week 2 30-12 loss. Last week, the Guardians fell 10-9 in yet another rough offensive showing.

Prediction

Roughnecks 24, Guardians 9

Moneyline

PASS.

At 4 times the risk as the potential return, the moneyline is not playable in this matchup.

Against the spread

BET ROUGHNECKS -9 (-110).

In their 3 wins this year, the Roughnecks have averaged a winning margin of 13 points. In the Guardians’ 3 losses this year, they have averaged a losing margin of 13.33 points. Expect the Roughnecks to roll through the Guardians and cover this spread.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 37.5 (-108).

The Guardians have struggled offensively this season, scoring 12 or fewer points in each of their 3 games. Houston started the season hot scoring 34 points but has scored 23 and 22 points, respectively, in Weeks 2 and 3.

While Houston toppled Orlando 33-12 at home in Week 1, it is yet to be seen how they will perform on the road. While another blowout is likely, its offense has slowed in the weeks following.

Brahmas at Roughnecks picks and predictions

Prediction

Roughnecks 26, Brahmas 20

Moneyline

The Brahmas’ lone win is on the road, but was over the lowly Guardians who have not scored more than 12 points in a game.

The Roughnecks have not allowed more than 14 points in a game thus far. They should win the game at home, but the line is too costly to be worth any action.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Roughnecks have won both games this season by at least 9 points.

The Brahmas were in position to have covered the spread in both games this season, but they allowed the BattleHawks to score 12 points in the final 1:25 to go from winning by 9 to losing by 3.

Houston’s defense has dominated thus far this season and we expect it to continue.

BET ROUGHNECKS -3.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Both of Houston’s games this season have had 37 or more points. The Brahmas’ 1st game of the year had 33 total points and the 2nd had 42 points, including 30 of their own points.

Houston has scored no fewer than 23 points this season.

BET OVER 36.5 (-105).

Arlington Renegades at Houston Roughnecks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Arlington Renegades at Houston Roughnecks odds and lines, with expert XFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Arlington Renegades (1-0) and the Houston Roughbecks (1-0) meet Sunday in a Week 2 matchup at TDECU Stadium in Houston  (ESPN2/ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Renegades vs. Roughnecks odds, and make our expert XFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Renegades held on for a thrilling 22-20 win over the Vegas Vipers last week, although Arlington and its backers were the victims of a late backdoor cover as the Over cashed. Arlington has the ability to move the ball with former NFL RB Keith Ford, as well as De’Veon Smith.

The Roughnecks blew out the Orlando Guardians by a 33-12 count, easily the most lopsided game in Week 1. In fact, all of the other games were decided by 4 points or less.

Houston QB Brandon Silvers was sharp, throwing for 272 yards and a pair of TDs, while WR Deontay Burnett had 90 receiving yards and a score. Former Washington State standout RB Max Borghi showed his versatility with 42 rushing yards and 32 receiving yards.

Renegades at Roughnecks picks and predictions

Prediction

Roughnecks 23, Renegades 20

Money line

The Roughnecks (-240) should get a much better test this week than they did in Week 1 against a disheveled Guardians side.

The Renegades (+190) were impressive at times on offense in Week 1, coming back from a 14-3 deficit to win 22-20, and Arlington rode its defense in the 2nd half.

PASS.

Against the spread

The RENEGADES +4.5 (+100) are an intriguing play catching 4 and a hook AND it’s plus-money.

While the Roughnecks -4.5 (-120) will be a popular play based on their Week 1 stomping of the Guardians, it’s a small sample size. Don’t put too much stock into 1 game. In 4 of the 1st 5 games in the XFL so far, the margin of victory has been 4 or fewer points.

Over/Under

The OVER 39.5 (-120) is the lean. We saw the Over cash in 3 of the first 4 games in Week 1, including for both of these teams. And we saw the Over hit in the Week 2 opener in Seattle on Thursday night. Look for a total into the 40s here, too.

Orlando Guardians at Houston Roughnecks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Orlando Guardians at Houston Roughnecks Week 1 odds and lines, with expert XFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Orlando Guardians visit the Houston Roughnecks Saturday on the opening day of the 2023 XFL season. Kickoff from TDECU Stadium is at 8:30 p.m. ET (FX/ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Guardians vs. Roughnecks odds, and make our expert XFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Guardians are led by coach Terrell Buckley and have one of the league’s most notable starting quarterbacks in Paxton Lynch. Lynch was a 1st-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2016 but struggled in the NFL and did not impress with the Michigan Panthers of the USFL last year.

The Roughnecks were a perfect 5-0 in 2020 before the XFL shut down. They are led by legendary coach Wade Phillips, who made a name in the NFL for his defenses. QB Brandon Silvers is the starter for Houston.

Guardians at Roughnecks picks and predictions

Prediction

Roughnecks 20, Guardians 13

Money line

Lynch has NFL experience but Phillips’ proven defensive scheme should be difficult to overcome in a season opener on the road. It is more likely the defenses are ahead of the offenses this early in the season.

Plus, Phillips’ vast experience as a successful NFL coach will help him keep things cool in an emotional opener.

However, with the line where it is, it is not a good bet value-wise to take Houston (-170) on the moneyline with such little information on how things will actually play out. PASS.

Against the spread

Can the Roughnecks win by more than a field goal?

It is the beginning of a league reboot and teams have not been together long. Houston has the coaching experience advantage and is at home.

We will know more about both teams once games are played, but to start things off, BET ROUGHNECKS -3.5 (-108).

Over/Under

Teams will likely look rough. Offenses will probably be a little off with their timing and Phillips’ defenses are always good.

I don’t expect a lot of points in this game.

BET UNDER 35.5 (-115).
