NFL insiders confirm T.J. Hockenson’s hold in

NFL insiders confirmed it after a lot of speculation

There was a lot of speculation about Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson holding in during training camp. Those were confirmed by NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Diana Russini.

It was really strange what happened at the beginning of training camp with Hockenson. He was warming up with the team and even running routes on the side during the first night practice on August 3rd. This is what we wrote about it after the first night practice.

During both individual and team drills, tight end T.J. Hockenson was not participating. Instead, he was working on routes with an assistant coach off to the side. He didn’t seem to be injured and it was very peculiar. My initial thoughts are that he might be doing a similar “hold in” to what Hunter was doing, except just not participating in team drills. That is all speculation at this point, but it’s worth noting.

That was when we started to hear from the team. First, it was an ear infection that was impacting his balance. Then, he had a stiff back that was preventing him from practicing.

This tweet from Schefter says it all.

The Vikings found a way to solve both of their holdings before the beginning of the season.

DK Metcalf reports to Seahawks but not practicing to start camp

Seattle Seahawks WR DK Metcalf reported to the Seattle Seahawks facility but isn’t practicing to start camp, awaiting a contract extension.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf reported to the Virginia Mason Athletic Facility to start training camp on day one but he wasn’t a participant in practice. Metcalf appears to be currently “holding in” as he waits for a contract extension.

There was some thought that Metcalf could be still sidelined by his earlier foot injury but coach Pete Carroll was quick to silence that notion.

“He passed his physical,” Carroll told reporters. “He’s fine.”

The hope is still that the two sides are able to reach some sort of agreement sooner than later and Metcalf can join his teammates in prepping for the season.

“We’re working,” Carroll said. “I don’t have any update for you, but we’re working.”

The action continues at the VMAC on Thursday – tickets are still available to the public!

Seahawks tackle Duane Brown ‘ready to go’ for season opener in Indy

Seattle Seahawks tackle Duane Brown is ready to play in the team’s season opener against the Colts despite “holding in” during training camp.

Seattle Seahawks left tackle Duane Brown will take the field next Sunday in Indianapolis when the team faces the Colts for their season opener.

“He’s ready to go,” coach Pete Carroll said after Monday’s practice to start the workweek. “We’re pleased to have him. All in all, in the camp that he was able to put forth he did all the learning, and he’s really healthy, really healthy right now, and I’m really thrilled about that for him.”

Brown reported for the start of training camp but only participated in the Seahawks’ meetings and walkthroughs, opting to sit out the actual practice sessions. It’s unclear at this time whether or not Brown was able to gain any footing in the contract negotiations after conducting his “hold in.”

Regardless, Brown will be available to Seattle Week 1 of the regular season and Carroll is choosing to see the positive from the situation, noting Brown will be “fresh” to start the year.

“It was one of the things realized in about the process of it that we would not wear him down at all during camp, like any player, so he’s got fresh legs coming in,” Carroll said. “He wants to play tight end, we probably won’t get that chance, but he’s asking.”

Seahawks unsure if safety Quandre Diggs will opt to practice this week

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is unsure if safety Quandre Diggs will opt to practice this week as he continues to stage a “hold in.”

The Seattle Seahawks have dealt with a number of contract issues this summer, with various players opting to “hold in” to drive their demands home. For safety Jamal Adams, the tactic worked – for left tackle Duane Brown . . .  not so much. And as of last week, Pro Bowl safety Quandre Diggs decided to stop taking to the practice field.

“I think this is an opportunity for players in all sports to communicate where they’re coming from, and this is a way to do it,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters Friday. “Quandre has been great all through camp. He’s had a fantastic camp, and he’s in great shape and he’s ready to go.”

Diggs did not play in the Seahawks’ final preseason against the Chargers, although most starters also remained on the bench. Carroll did have an update on Diggs’ situation, however. Here’s what he had to say when asked if he thought the veteran would return to practice this week.

“We’ll see, we’ll talk about it,” Carroll said. “We’ve had great conversations, and it’s important that we were able to really address where he is and where he’s coming from, and I had a chance to hear him out and all that. I think the world of this guy.

“He’s an amazing competitor, tough as hell, in every way, and really I can’t imagine not playing with him.”

The Seahawks are set to practice on Monday but there will be no media availability until Tuesday.
