Giants vs. Texans: Statistics, numbers and broken records

The New York Giants defeated the Houston Texans in Week 10 and here’s a look at some of the records, statistics and numbers.

The New York Giants took down the Houston Texans, 24-16, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday.

The win gives the Giants a record of 7-2 on the season, which is their best start since 2008 and eclipses their win total in each of the previous five seasons.

Here’s a glance at what interesting stats, numbers and broken records were birthed from the Week 10 win over the Texans.

  • The Giants improved to 7-2 on the season, which is their best start (through nine games) since 2008.
  • New York’s seven wins are more than they’ve had in any full season since 2016 and the second-most they’ve had in any full season since 2012.
  • The Giants are 4-1 at home this season. They haven’t won more than three games at MetLife Stadium since 2016.
  • The Giants have won four straight games against the AFC this season, their longest interconference winning streak since 2010-2012.
  • The Giants ran the ball 47 times, their most in a game since November 7, 2010.
  • Daniel Jones recorded a career-high passer rating of 153.3. It’s also the highest passer rating of any quarterback in the NFL this season.
  • Jones’ 153.3 passer rating is the sixth-best in Giants history.
  • Saquon Barkley carried the ball a career-high 35 times, which is also the most for a Giants running back since December 5, 1999 (Joe Montgomery, 38 carries).
  • Barkley’s 100-yard game is the 16th of his career.
  • Dexter Lawrence recorded nine pressures in Week 10, the most by someone over 320 pounds since 2006.

  • Wan’Dale Robinson lost five yards on his first career rushing attempt.
  • Lawrence Cager scored his first career touchdown.
  • Dane Belton recorded his first career interception.
  • Davis Mills threw for 319 yards, which was the highest total against the Giants this season.
  • Jason Pinnock recorded the first 1.5 sacks of his career.

Giants activate Matt Peart, elevate two from practice squad

The New York Giants have activated OT Matt Peart from PUP and elevated two players from their practice squad.

The New York Giants have activated offensive lineman Matt Peart from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Peart has been out since tearing his ACL last December against the Philadelphia Eagles.

With starting right tackle Evan Neal (knee) still out, Peart will help provide additional depth at the position.

Guard Shane Lemieux and cornerback Rodarius Williams were not activated, but that could come as soon as next week.

Meanwhile, the Giants also elevated defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux and tight end Lawrence Cager from their practice squad.

Those moves were obvious as the team deals with depth issues at both positions. Defensive tackle Nick Williams was placed on injured reserve earlier this week and tight end Daniel Bellinger (eye) is still a week or more away from returning.

Safety Landon Collins was not elevated and will not play against the Houston Texans.

Giants’ Tyrod Taylor, Wan’Dale Robinson among 7 ruled out vs. Packers

The New York Giants ruled seven players out against the Green Bay Packers in Week 5, including QB Tyrod Taylor and three wide receivers.

The New York Giants visit the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in London and will do so down a number of players.

Earlier in the week, cornerback Aaron Robinson was placed on injured reserve (IR) and then on Friday, the team ruled out an additional seven players.

Among them is backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor (concussion), meaning Davis Webb will get activated from the practice squad.

On the plus side, safety Julian Love cleared concussion protocol and will play, and defensive lineman Leonard Williams inched closer to his return. However, he said he’d like a full practice before he steps back onto the field and was limited on Friday.

Note: Henry Mondeaux is on the team’s practice squad so it’s unclear why he’s being listed on the final injury report.

Full injury reports for both the Giants and Packers can be found below:

Kadarius Toney, Azeez Ojulari among Giants who didn’t travel to London

The New York Giants left five players behind on their trip to London, including WR Kadarius Toney and LB Azeez Ojulari.

The New York Giants won’t release their final Week 5 injury report until later on Friday, but we already know several players who will be ruled out.

Head coach Brian Daboll and his players boarded a red-eye flight to London  on Thursday evening but were five short. Those who didn’t travel include edge rusher Azeez Ojulari (calf), wide receivers Kadarius Toney (hamstring) and Kenny Golladay (knee), defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux (ankle) and cornerback Cor’Dale Flott (calf).

Toney had participated in practice on Wednesday but was immediately shut down after. He will now miss his third consecutive game.

The news on Golladay also isn’t a surprise. He suffered a sprained MCL against the Chicago Bears and Daboll recently said he’s out indefinitely.

Ojulari might be the most concerning loss for the Giants come Sunday. He had been playing impactful football since his return, making his presence felt in a number of ways.

It remains unclear how much time Ojulari is expected to miss.

The good news for Big Blue is that both quarterbacks, Daniel Jones (ankle) and Tyrod Taylor (concussion), made the trip. Safety Julian Love (concussion) also appears to be trending in the right direction.

Giants injury report: Kadarius Toney sits, Julian Love returns

While the news on New York Giants QB Daniel Jones is positive, the same can not be said for WR Kadarius Toney who regressed in 24 hours.

The New York Giants took the practice field in East Rutherford for the final time before jetting off to London on Thursday. And once again, quarterback Daniel Jones was participating and looked good to go against the Green Bay Packers.

The same could not be said for wide receiver Kadarius Toney, however. One day after returning to practice, the 2021 first-round pick was sidelined with injury. He seems unlikely to play on Sunday.

On the plus side, safety Julian Love and wide receiver Richie James Jr. returned to practice.

The Giants’ Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: WR Kenny Golladay (knee), QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion), CB Cor’Dale Flott (calf), LB Azeez Ojulari (calf), DL Henry Mondeaux (ankle), WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring)

Limited participant: QB Daniel Jones (ankle), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), DL Leonard Williams (knee), OL Evan Neal (neck), DB Fabian Moreau (foot), DB Nick McCloud (hamstring), S Julian Love (concussion), WR Richie James Jr. (ankle)

Giants injury report: Leonard Williams, Kadarius Toney return to practice

The New York Giants had a long Wednesday injury report but on the plus side, Daniel Jones, Leonard Williams and Kadarius Toney practiced.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday ahead of their Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers in London, but much of the team was limping.

In what has become a yearly trend for the Giants, injuries are again the story. This time around, eyes were on the quarterbacks, wide receivers and defensive line.

Luckily for Big Blue, there seemed to be more good news than bad news.

Quarterback Daniel Jones, defensive lineman Leonard Williams and wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Wan’Dale Robinson all participated on at least a limited basis. However, quarterback Tyrod Taylor and safety Julian Love remain in concussion protocol.

The Giants’ Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: WR Kenny Golladay (knee), QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion), S Julian Love (concussion), CB Cor’Dale Flott (calf), LB Azeez Ojulari (calf), WR Richie James Jr. (ankle), DL Henry Mondeaux (ankle)

Limited participant: QB Daniel Jones (ankle), WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), DL Leonard Williams (knee), OL Evan Neal (neck), DB Fabian Moreau (foot), DB Nick McCloud (hamstring)

Giants injury updates: Kenny Golladay, Aaron Robinson likely to miss time

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll offered updates on more than 10 injured players and indicated that WR Kenny Golladay may miss time.

The New York Giants may have defeated the Chicago Bears, 20-12, in Week 4, but it came at a cost. In excess of 10 players went down injured and the prognosis on some of them is less than desirable.

During a Monday afternoon Zoom conference with the team’s beat reporters, head coach Brian Daboll broke down each — some in more detail than others.

Here are the updates on the team’s walking wounded.

Dexter Lawrence, Andrew Thomas were highest-graded Giants in Week 4

Pro Football Focus grades are out and Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas led the way for the New York Giants in Week 4.

The New York Giants picked up a 20-12 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday and continue to be led by the same core group of players.

Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence once again earned the team’s highest grade courtesy of Pro Football Focus, checking in with a 92.7. Those who followed him on the defensive side of the ball were linebacker Jaylon Smith (83.8), and cornerbacks Fabian Moreau (74.1) and Darnay Holmes (70.5).

Other notable defensive grades include linebacker Tae Crowder (69.9), edge rusher Azeez Ojulari (63.6) and rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux (58.5).

The Giants’ lowest-graded defenders were defensive end Henry Mondeaux (30.5) and linebacker Micah McFadden (28.7).

Offensively, left tackle Andrew Thomas continued his domination with an 87.0. He was followed by quarterback Daniel Jones (85.8), and tight ends Chris Myarick (73.9) and Daniel Bellinger (73.0).

Other notable grades on offense include running back Saquon Barkley (62.1), wide receiver Kenny Golladay (58.7) and right tackle Evan Neal (51.8).

The lowest-graded players on offense were offensive tackle Devery Hamilton (48.5) and quarterback Tyrod Taylor (47.3).

The highest-graded special teams player was Carter Coughlin (74.2).

Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor among new wave of Giants injuries

The New York Giants saw 10 players go down with injury against the Chicago Bears, including QBs Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor.

The New York Giants may have picked up a victory against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but they saw a new wave of injuries decimate their roster.

Among those injured were quarterbacks Daniel Jones, who suffered a sprained ankle, and Tyrod Taylor, who exited with a concussion.

After Taylor was knocked out of the game, the Giants were in such dire need at quarterback that Saquon Barkley briefly took over before Jones was forced back in under center.

“(Jones) wanted to go in,” head coach Brian Daboll said after the game. “I said, ‘You’re not going into the game. I see you’re limping. I’m not risking you getting injured to try to protect yourself with that limp. But if we need you, can you go back in the game?’ He said, ‘Yeah. I can go in the game now.’

“I said, ‘Tyrod’s going in the game, and if we need you, hopefully it’ll be just to hand the ball off.’ So, when Tyrod went down, I looked over to (quarterbacks coach) Shea (Tierney) and said, ‘Is he good to go?’ He said, ‘Yup.'”

With two injured quarterbacks, the Giants managed to win without throwing the ball the rest of the game.

“I feel good. I feel good. A little sore but all good. Listen to the trainers and doctors and go from there but feeling good,” Jones said, admitting there was pain when he returned to the game. “It hurt. Didn’t feel like I could move quite the same.”

In addition to Jones and Taylor, the Giants also saw injuries to right tackle Evan Neal, safety Julian Love, guard Mark Glowinski, wide receiver Kenny Golladay, cornerback Aaron Robinson, defensive lineman defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux and edge rushers Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari.

Are we missing any?

The exact severity of each injury remains unclear but at least a few of them (Robinson, Mondeaux) appeared destined to miss some time. The same is likely true for Jones and Taylor. The good news is that Thibodeaux said he merely had a back spasm and would be fine.

Love also said he would “return soon,” but that promise was vague and also sounded like he could miss some time.

Although the Giants are 3-1 on the season and that’s worth celebrating, they once again appear to be well on their way toward leading the league in injuries — a distinction they own since 2009.

Steelers release former Oregon DL Henry Mondeaux

Former Oregon Ducks defensive tackle Henry Mondeaux was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers swung a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire veteran cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon for a 2023 fifth round pick on Friday.

In order to make room on the 53-man roster, former Oregon Ducks defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux was released.

The expectation is that Pittsburgh will add Mondeaux to the practice squad, assuming he clears waivers.

Mondeaux initially caught on with the Steelers on a reserve/future contract in December of 2019. He ended up appearing in 11 games for Pittsburgh last season, recording five combined tackles and two quarterback hits while serving primarily on the special teams.

He was off and on the practice squad last year as well, getting protected multiple times while the team shuffled him up and down onto the active roster.

Mondeaux starred at Oregon from 2014-2017. He recorded 17 tackles for loss and 10 sacks while with the Ducks, providing a disruptive presence up front for defensive coordinator Don Pellum.
