Miami Heat at Brooklyn Nets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Miami Heat at Brooklyn Nets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Heat (41-22) play their second game in consecutive days Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets (32-31) in Kevin Durant‘s return to action. Tip-off at the Barclays Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Heat vs. Nets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Miami lost a nail-biter Wednesday night to the Bucks 120-119 in Milwaukee on a game-winning bucket by Bucks PG Jrue Holiday in the final seconds. The Heat did cover as 4.5-point underdogs, but the loss snapped a 4-game winning streak.

Brooklyn is 1-3 straight up (SU) and 2-2 against the spread (ATS) since the All-Star break. The Nets enter the game after being swept in a home-and-away back-to-back with the Toronto Raptors.

The Heat are 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS versus the Nets this season and the total is 1-1 Over/Under (O/U).

Heat at Nets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Nets 118, Heat 110

Money line

SPRINKLE on the NETS (+115) for a lite wager since Brooklyn’s spread is the sharper play but things will turn around for the Nets with KD back.

Durant is the best basketball player on the planet when fully healthy and is in the 91st percentile of wings for adjusted on/off net rating (plus-10.2), according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

The bottom line is everything from a basketball perspective falls into place for Brooklyn when KD is on the floor. My main concern with betting the Nets in this spot is the possibility of coach Steve Nash putting KD on a minutes restriction.

But, even if that happens, Brooklyn’s role players should be uplifted just by the mere sight of KD playing basketball.

Also, newly acquired Nets’ Seth Curry and Andre Drummond were immediately inserted into the starting 5 and have been giving Brooklyn good minutes. It’s a small sample size but both Curry and Drummond are in the 99th percentile in their respective positions for adjusted on/off net rating, each above plus-21.0.

On top of that, Miami played a tightly contested battle with Milwaukee Wednesday and the Heat struggle in the second of the back-to-back. Miami is 3-7 SU in those spots with a minus-2.2 adjusted net rating, per CTG.

It just has to be tough for the Heat to get up against two title contenders, in back-to-back nights, both struggling and needing to get wins.

Again, SPRINKLE on the NETS (+115) with the plan of hitting Brooklyn’s spread harder.

Against the spread

Definitely BET on the NETS +2.5 (-108) heavier than or instead of their ML based on all the previous analysis.

Furthermore, all the anti-Brooklyn trends Barney at the Bar is betting the Heat -2.5 (-112) based on, are worthless now with KD’s return.

According to VegasInsider.com, a slight majority of the cash is on Brooklyn but roughly 70% of the bets are on Miami. Since the money column is typically considered the sharp side of the market, it’d be wise to follow the money here.

For the record, the NETS +2.5 (-108) is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Over 221.5 (-112) because of all the firepower on both benches.

However, I’m not as locked into the total for this game as the Brooklyn side and would prefer to just stick with my Nets action.

Miami Heat at Brooklyn Nets odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Miami Heat at Brooklyn Nets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Heat (2-1) take on the Brooklyn Nets (2-2) Wednesday at the Barclays Center with tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Heat vs. Nets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Miami avenged its first loss of the season (102-91 to the Indiana Pacers this past weekend) to trounce the Orlando Magic 107-90 Monday. Through three games, the Heat have the highest net rating and the third-highest rebounding rate in the Association.

Brooklyn has alternated between wins/covers and losses/non-covers in its first four games with the latest being a 104-90 over the Washington Wizards Monday. However, the Nets rank 24th in net rating and 22nd in effective field goal shooting (eFG%) thus far.

The Nets won two of three regular-season meetings with the Heat last season, but Miami covered two of three and the Under was 2-1 in those contests. Also, Miami wing SG Jimmy Butler didn’t play in any of the three Heat-Nets meetings last year while SF Kevin Durant played in all of them.

Heat at Nets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 108, Nets 106

Money line

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Heat (+133) because I’m on Miami plus the points in this spot and generally will sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when betting them to cover.

That said, I’d need the Heat’s money line to be priced north of +150 for me to take a stab since I see more value in the Under than Miami outright.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the HEAT +3.5 (-107) because there’s “sharp line movement” toward Miami and the ramped-up physicality in these games helps out the Heat more than the Nets. For instance, this game opened with Miami getting 5 points but has been steamed down since.

On top of that, the NBA tweaked things this offseason when it enacted a policy to officiate unnatural offensive moves out of the game.

Now, both teams have players that benefited greatly from drawing weak fouls in previous seasons, but Miami has a more physical roster to start with.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 217.5 (-108) because neither team has shot well from the field to start the year or attacking the basket.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com, Brooklyn is 26th in percentage of shots at the rim and fifth in mid-range field goal volume.

While Miami is 27th in attempts at the rim and first in mid-range field goal volume. However, the Nets are ninth in defensive field goal shooting in the mid-range and the Heat are fourth.

The reason I only “LEAN” to the UNDER 217.5 (-108) is that we are getting to the party late.

According to Pregame.com, this Heat-Nets game opened with a 222.5-point total but has been dragged down to the current price. So, while the Under is the sharp play, we are getting the worst of the number.

Heat at Nets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nets 123, Heat 117

Money line (ML)

The Nets (-350) will cost you three-and-a-half times your potential return, and that’s risky and a poor long-term strategy. Even if this bet came through 77 percent of the time, you’d be running a deficit. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The HEAT +7.5 (-110) are a strong play, as the Nets’ -7.5 (-110) struggles on defense leave the door open for everyone. Brooklyn enters 0-3 ATS across the past three, and 1-4 ATS over the previous five outings. Miami lost 128-124 on Saturday as an eight-point ‘dog, and you can expect a similar spread here.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 234.5 (-110) is insanely high, but it might not be high enough. These teams combined for 252 total points Saturday in the first installment, including a ridiculous 74 points in the final quarter. Brooklyn is No. 1 with 120.3 PPG, a 49.3% field-goal percentage and their scoring defense ranks 27th with 116.8 PPG. The Nets are on a 12-0 Over run, with their last Under on New Year’s Day against Atlanta.

Miami Heat at Brooklyn Nets odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Miami Heat at Brooklyn Nets NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Miami Heat (6-8) visit the Brooklyn Nets (9-8) at the Barclays Center Saturday for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Heat-Nets NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

This will be the fourth straight two-game set against the same team for Miami, who will also play Brooklyn Jan. 25. The Heat lost both meetings vs. the Philadelphia 76ers (1-1 against the spread), next they split two games with the Detroit Pistons (0-1-1 ATS) and won the first of a two-game miniseries with the Toronto Raptors (1-1 ATS) coming into Saturday.

Brooklyn has lost back-to-back games at the Cleveland Cavaliers as heavy favorites to snap a four-game win streak entering Saturday. The 147-135 double-overtime loss to the Cavs on Jan. 20 was the Nets’ first game with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and James Harden all active. KD did not play to manage his surgically repaired Achilles’ in Brooklyn’s 125-113 loss to Cleveland last night.

Heat at Nets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nets 123, Heat 109

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. All of the big 3 are playing for the Nets (-350) Saturday, but I have too much respect for Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra to pay such a steep price for a straight-up Brooklyn win.

Miami’s run to the NBA Finals last season in the Orlando bubble was powered by the best teamwork, continuity and togetherness in the Eastern Conference. The Heat were slow to recapture that form early this season and have recently suffered setbacks due to injury and COVID-19. Miami will still be without Jimmy Butler, and Tyler Herro is now out with injury.

Against the spread (ATS)

Continuity is for sure a question mark with Brooklyn, but KD is the best player in the world, and I think he’ll want to make a statement versus the defending Eastern Conference champs. KD is the second-leading scorer in the NBA (31.3 points per game) on an efficient 60.7% effective field-goal shooting.

Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 38 points in Brooklyn’s loss Friday to the Cavs, and Harden is averaging 26.5 points, 8.3 and 12.5 assists per game in his four games with the Nets. Also, Kyrie was chirping this morning on Instagram with “We will be on that stage … The main stage” and KD responded with “Speak on it King!!” so I’m expecting Brooklyn’s big 3 to back up the talk tonight.

BET NETS -7.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS ON THE TOTAL with a lean on Over 232.5 (-110). The total aligns with my prediction, but I could see Miami getting hot from three and/or Brooklyn putting up 130-plus points. However, the Heat are banged up and 27th in points per game over their past five.
