LEAN HEAT (+110) since I like Miami plus the points, but can’t fully get there on the Heat’s ML because it’s not a big enough payout.

If Miami’s ML was north of +130, I’d take a stab but I’d rather grab the Heat’s spread and in-game the Sixers plus points for a “middle” if Miami goes up double digits.

Against the spread

There’s value in the HEAT +2.5 (-112) because they are owning the 76ers -2.5 (-108) in turnover rate and rebounding. The most important thing in playoff basketball is accumulating possessions and Miami has a plus-24 rebound differential for the series and has committed 10 fewer turnovers.

Shooting comes and goes in basketball and these teams are tied in effective field goal shooting for the series. But, Miami was the best 3-point shooting team in the NBA during the regular season, 3rd in defensive turnover rate and had a much better rebounding rate than Philly.

Since the Heat should win the battle of possessions comfortably, I’ll take my chances that Miami’s elite 3-point shooters hit a few big shots in Philly Thursday and at least keep Game 6 close.

TAKE the HEAT +2.5 (-112).

Over/Under

PASS because my prediction aligns with the market’s projected score so there’s no value for me in this total.

If anything, I “lean” Under 207.5 (-115) since it’s an elimination game for Philly and this series has a 92.3 possessions per 48-minute pace while the average NBA team is playing at a 95.8 for these playoffs. Furthermore, these teams have a combined 46-60 O/U record vs. teams with a winning record.

LEAN 76ERS (-135) because this series should go 6 or 7 games with Embiid back in the lineup and because Miami’s half-court offense was dreadful in Game 3.

First-year Heat PG Kyle Lowry looks washed up and Philly figured something out when it started blitzing Heat SG Tyler Herro on high ball screens in the second half of Game 2, forcing Herro into bad decisions and turnovers.

That said, Miami has the better coach, has more continuity and more playoff experience. Also, the Heat were down just 4 points heading into the 4th quarter of Game 3 before Philly combo guard Tyrese Maxey erupted for 14 4th-quarter points on 5 of 5 shooting (4 of 4 from behind the arc).

It’s only a LEAN to the 76ERS (-135) because I see Game 4 being a rock-fight and the Under is my favorite wager in this contest.

Against the spread

PASS with a lean to the 76ers -1.5 (-120) because there’s a Pros vs. Joe’s scenario in the betting market with the presumed sharp side backing Philly.

According to Tipico Sportsbook, more than 85% of the bets placed are on the Heat +1.5 (-105), but roughly two-thirds of the money is on the Sixers. Since professional bettors wager more money than your average Joe, the cash column of the betting splits is the one to follow.

However, since this is a toss-up game, I’m not keen about laying points with either side. PASS.

Over/Under

BET the UNDER 206.5 (-107) because there’s reverse line movement headed south of the total. Nearly 75% of the action and two-thirds of the money is on the Over (per Tipico), but the Heat-76ers total has been lowered from a 208-point opener down to the current number.

Also, this series is playing at a snail’s pace. For instance, Heat-76ers have a combined 90.4 possessions per 48 minutes through Game 3 and the slowest-paced team in the playoffs was the Utah Jazz at 91.0 possessions per 48.

The Heat come into this game with a commanding 2-0 series lead.

They’ve yet to play against MVP finalist C Joel Embiid, who seemed to be on track to be a game-time decision. The line was at 1.5 then. It’s now blossomed to 3.5 as Embiid has been ruled out.

Miami, one of the few teams with both a top 12 offensive and defensive rating during the regular season, beat the Hawks 4-1 in the first round. The Heat are led by F Jimmy Butler, averaging 26.5 points per game this postseason.

The Heat have crushed the Sixers in 2 straight games.

On the season, they’re 13-11-1 ATS as a road favorite. They’re deep as well. Miami has 8 players averaging over 8 points per game in the playoffs, so its injuries aren’t quite as concerning.

Philadelphia is just 4-5 ATS as a home underdog. Without Embiid, the Sixers will struggle to keep pace. After all, even in its better-shooting performance, they still lost by 14.

The 76ers traded their best backup big man to the Nets and it’s coming back to bite them. Without a consistent, rim-rolling big man, former MVP G James Harden isn’t nearly as unstoppable.

With the Heat a top-5 team in opponents’ turnover rate during the regular season, they should be able to force the Sixers into some tough situations. Expect another blowout win.

Over/Under

LEAN to the OVER 209.5 (-112).

While the Heat’s defense was among the best in the NBA, they did foul frequently. They ranked 27th in opponents’ free throw attempt rate. Up 2-0 on and on the road, the whistle certainly won’t be in their favor.

The Sixers ranked second in FTA rate during the regular season, and although Embiid is out, Harden is among the NBA’s most foul-dependent players.

The total is 1-1 O/U in the series as it connected in Game 2 on a 119-103 Heat win. I expect the Sixers to get some calls and rack in easy points.

The potential key Miami players missing could be huge as well. If Tucker is out, the Heat’s defense would take a significant hit, as would it if Lowry doesn’t suit up for the first time in the series.

BET the HEAT (-125) for 1 unit because they excel when playing with a rest advantage and the 76ers struggle in the second of back-to-backs.

Miami is 15-8 SU when playing with a rest advantage (plus-9.8 margin of victory) and Philly is 3-5 SU and ATS on zero rest days (minus-3.6 margin of victory).

Furthermore, the Heat have an identity and a huge coaching advantage in this spot. Miami coach Erik Spoelstra is one of the best in the NBA and the primary reason the Heat are 2-1 SU and ATS versus the Sixers this season. Also, Joel Embiid and the Sixers have only beaten the Heat twice in Miami.

On top of that, Philly gets abused by good defenses. According to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG), the Sixers are 9-11 SU versus teams in the top-10 of defensive rating with a minus-5.3 adjusted net rating (ranked 17th) and a minus-6.1 ATS margin (ranked last).

Finally, the Heat have been steamed from an underdog on the opener up to a favorite (according to VegasInsider.com) so it would appear as though Miami is the sharp side.

Against the spread

PASS because Miami’s ML is only 10 cents on the dollar more expensive than the Heat so let’s not sweat needing a cover.

That said, Miami is 6-0-1 ATS in the last seven games as a road favorite and 11-6 ATS on the road versus teams with a winning record. Whereas Philly is 2-6-1 ATS in the last nine Heat-76ers games and 7-13 ATS at home when playing winning teams.

Miami’s ML is my preferred wager but I’d be willing to lay up to 3 points with the Heat if their ML increases to -140 or pricier.

Over/Under

PASS with a “lean” towards the Under 214.5 (-115) since Philly is 2-5-1 O/U in the second of a back-to-back, 3-5 O/U as home underdogs, Miami is 7-12 O/U when playing with a rest advantage and the Under has cashed in four consecutive Heat-76ers meetings.

However, there isn’t a big enough margin between my prediction and the projected total to lay any money on my lean.

The Heat, down two of their key players, have gone 3-3 over their past six games. This is their second of four road games, having lost to the Cavaliers and failing to cover the spread Monday in a 105-94 loss.

The Heat are one of the better covering teams in the NBA, 16-12 ATS. They’re 5-2 ATS as road underdogs. The Sixers aren’t a great covering team, just 13-15 ATS. As home favorites, they’re just 2-4 ATS.

With C Joel Embiid questionable, one shouldn’t bet on this game until his status is officially announced. Both Embiid and Seth Curry, listed as questionable, missed the Sixers’ 35-point loss to Memphis Monday.

PASS on the money line. Embiid’s status will be telling. I’d be confident he’ll suit up, and even then, a -300 money line isn’t worth it. The +230 for Miami, on the chance he misses, may be worth a flier.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the HEAT +6.5 (-105) as they’ve been a covering machine lately.

Kyle Lowry knows how to keep games close, and with the grittiness of P.J. Tucker, the Heat should be just fine. Winning the game is another matter, and the sportsbooks clearly think Embiid will suit up.

The Sixers haven’t been scoring as much this season with Ben Simmons still not with the team. They may come out on top, but covering the spread over a talented, veteran-led team is another story.

I’d back Miami in this spot.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 204.5 (-110) as the Heat are actually the second-best Over team in the NBA. They have a 16-12 O/U record on the total. The Sixers are the opposite at just 10-17-1 O/U.

Given the Heat’s wide array of scoring options without their star, they’ve actually found success down two key players, scoring 118 on the Bulls and 113 on the Bucks recently

While the Sixers play at a slow pace, both teams have elite 3-point shooting and that could drive this score higher. This is a lower total and should be covered, especially if Embiid and Curry are active.

Miami’s scheduled game against the Boston Celtics this past Sunday was postponed since the Heat didn’t have a minimum of eight players active for the contest due to COVID-related absences. In their last game on Jan. 9, the Heat held off the Washington Wizards last night in a 128-124 road win but couldn’t get the cover as 7.5-point favorites.

A short-handed 76ers team was clubbed last night by the Atlanta Hawks 112-94 as 6-point road underdogs. Philadelphia was missing a few starters such as All-Star Ben Simmons and 3-point marksman SG Seth Curry and their offensive tanked because of it. The 76ers shot 40.2% from the field and 22.2% from three in the loss to the Hawks.

Both rosters are without several key contributors and Miami’s team has taken the biggest hit. For what it’s worth, the Heat have beaten the 76ers in three straight and Miami won last year’s season series 3-1 (2-1-1 ATS).

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. The Heat-76ers handicap boils down to who has more available productive players. So it’s either a bet on Philadelphia or a pass. However, there’s no way you can pay this much for a 76ers outright win regardless of the Heat’s situation.

Against the spread (ATS)

We haven’t seen how the Heat will look with all their missing players, but I have to fade them given what we saw last night out of the 76ers. C Joel Embiid played really well vs. the Hawks yesterday, but Philadelphia got smacked around.

The 76ers appear to be getting Simmons back, and their rookie PG Tyrese Maxey has stepped up offensively since Curry has been sidelined. Maxey has scored 15, 36 and 16 with at least 50% field-goal shooting in each outing over his past three games.

Philadelphia simply has more bodies and I lean 76ERS +8.5 (+100) for a half-unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

According to Pregame.com, money is pouring in on the Over in Heat-76ers and I’m following the money here. There’s absolutely no defense in the Heat’s backcourt so the 76ers are going to get into the paint at will. Miami will have to chuck threes – because how else will the Heat score points?
