Look: Clemson HC Dabo Swinney in Raiders gear on Las Vegas sideline is…interesting

Since Raiders hired Mike Mayock as their GM three years ago, the team has been stocking up on Clemson ball players. Now they could be looking at a new head coach come the offseason. So, the sight of Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney in Raiders gear on the sideline in Las Vegas has raised some eyebrows.

Swinney has been the head coach for Clemson since 2008. In those 14 years, he’s taken the Tigers to a Bowl game every season, with four appearances in the College Football National Championship Game, winning it twice over the past five seasons.

The Raiders currently have three players on the roster — DE Clelin Ferrell, CB Trayvon Mullen, WR Hunter Renfrow, and G John Simpson. All were drafted by the team. They also spent a third round pick on LB Tanner Muse who was cut this offseason.

So, yeah, they have a thing for Clemson players. Could they be trying to woo their coach to Las Vegas as well?

Just as important, could he be interested in becoming the Raiders head coach? If him donning Raiders gear on the sideline during a game isn’t enough to make you wonder, his constant facetiming with Derek Carr certainly would.

“Dabo Swinney literally has FaceTimed me or texted me more than like my coaches that I played with in college. I promise,” Carr said on the Harvester sports podcast last month. “This man FaceTimed me the other day, and it wasn’t even anything about Hunter. He’s like, ‘Hey man, keep it going. Man, so proud of you. I’m so fired up.’ I’m like, ‘Dude, you’re getting me fired up.’”

Definitely an interesting conversation. One the Raiders are clearly leaning into.

Power Ranking the LSU Tigers head coach candidates

Let’s power rank the head coach candidates

Plenty of chatter going on with the LSU Tigers and their hunt for the next head coach.

Most are just potential candidates stating they love their current jobs and don’t have interest, but who believes head coaches when it comes to open jobs during the season? What exactly are they supposed to say? There could be truth to their statements for some. At this point, all conversations are being done by agents and not the coaches.

With all that being said, we look to power rank the most talked-about candidates. This isn’t pointing to who we believe will become the next LSU head coach but where they stand in the priority.

Plus predictions for how it all ends for each one of them.

247Sports names Tom Herman a viable head coach candidate for TCU

Is Tom Herman the right guy for TCU?

Even though his time in Austin was cut short due to mediocrity, some still believe that Tom Herman should get another crack in college football.

Carl Reed of 247Sports broke down why he thinks that Herman would be the perfect fit for the TCU head coaching job. It’s a fairly sought-after position that opened just days ago when 20-year head coach Gary Patterson and the school decided to part ways.

Herman is currently an offensive analyst with the Chicago Bears, but Reed thinks TCU should move fast to get Herman there as soon as possible to salvage this recruiting class.

Reed explains that just because Herman did not hit the mark at Texas, which as we all know carries high expectations and at times unrealistic ones, he believes in his recruiting ability and previous success at the college level.

“Herman won a national championship with a third-string QB at Ohio State, had massive success at Houston on the field and on the recruiting trail (landing 5-star and future top 10 pick Ed Oliver), and although Texas never competed for a national title, he still had an overall winning record (32-18).”

TCU would be the type of place where Herman could find success, as it is a program that is not likely expecting to be in the College Football Playoff talk every year, but just like when they had Treyvon Boykin, the program often overachieves and makes some noise.

Herman was never able to live up to the expectations that came along with the Texas job, but the same position at TCU would allow him the time to build.

With Ed Orgeron out, what is next for the LSU Tigers at head coach?

What names can you expect to hear over the next several months?

The news broke late Saturday morning early afternoon that the LSU Tigers have decided to part ways with head coach Ed Orgeron. This ended the speculation of when the news would come down about the future of the head coach that won a national championship less than two years ago. This had a very Gene Chizik at Auburn feel to it.

The difference being the off-field issues under Orgeron to go along with a 9-8 record following the season of perfection. It is out in the open now and the school begins the hunt for the next head coach at LSU. We have heard a few names which we will begin to look at.

Jon Gruden’s out as Raiders head coach. Stepping in as the interim head coach is Rich Bisaccia, who had served as Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator for Gruden’s entire recent tenure with the Raiders. But interim head coaches rarely stick as the next head coach.

Falcons complete interview with Titans’ Arthur Smith for head coach

The Atlanta Falcons completed another interview for their head-coaching vacancy, adding Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to an already-impressive group of potential candidates.

The Atlanta Falcons completed another interview for their head-coaching vacancy, adding Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to an already-impressive group of potential candidates. Smith is one of the best offensive minds available, and could have a real shot to land the job.

Smith, 38, has been a part of the Titans organization in various roles for 10 years. Originally a defensive quality control coach with Tennessee, Smith worked his way up to tight ends coach before taking over as offensive coordinator in 2019.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team will hold a second interview on Monday afternoon with Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

Check back for more interview updates throughout the week.

Blank: Falcons new GM, head coach ‘have to see the game the same way’

The Atlanta Falcons have been arguably the NFL’s busiest team since their season concluded on Sunday.

The Atlanta Falcons have been arguably the NFL’s busiest francise since their season concluded on Sunday. Needing to fill vacancies at head coach and general manager, the team has interviewed a half dozen candidates in just three days.

Due to the Falcons’ dire salary cap situation and limited roster flexibility, team owner Arthur Blank knows he must get both hires right. The best way to do that, according to Blank during Monday’s virtual press conference, is by hiring two candidates with a similar vision of how to build a team.

“They have to see the game the same way,” said Blank. “They have to have a similar plan for how do you build a championship team. If you have different plans, then you’re fighting over the draft — who do you pick, who you don’t pick.”

Some have been critical of Blank for being too loyal, and it’s certainly fair to criticize him for failing to dismiss Dan Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff in 2019. However, Quinn and Dimitroff had a great working relationship — which paid off with a trip to the Super Bowl in 2016 and a playoff win in 2017.

Watch Blank’s virtual press conference, as shared by the team’s Twitter account below.
