NBA Twitter reacts to Warriors dropping loss vs. Hawks despite 37 points from Klay Thompson

Despite 37 points from Klay Thompson, the Warriors couldn’t slow down Trae Young and the Hawks. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Twitter on Friday night.

After Jordan Poole and the rest of the young core helped will a victory over the Miami Heat without Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Otto Porter Jr., some of the Golden State Warriors’ veterans returned to the floor on Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks.

With players like Thompson and Green back in the lineup around a red-hot Poole, the Warriors battled the Hawks through the first two-quarters of the contest. Despite a fast start, the Warriors’ offense went cold in the third quarter.

The Hawks All-Star guard tallied 15 points on his own on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor with three triples in the third quarter.

While the Warriors attempted a run in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough to keep up with Young and the Hawks. Young notched 33 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the floor with 15 assists and four rebounds to lead the Hawks to a 121-110 win.

3 things to know: Despite 37 points from Steph Curry, fouls hamper Warriors in loss vs. Hawks, 117-111

Despite a game-high 37 points from Steph Curry, the Golden State Warriors couldn’t stop fouling in a loss to the Atlanta Hawks, 117-111.

Although Steph Curry and Draymond Green made their much-needed return to the starting lineup, the Golden State Warriors struggled to snap their losing streak with a contest against the Atlanta Hawks.

Despite limiting Trae Young to only 13 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the floor, the Warriors had no answers for Atlanta’s second unit.

Danilo Gallinari led the Hawks with a team-high 25 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor in 29 minutes off the bench. Veteran sixth-man Lou Williams added 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field in 26 minutes off the bench. While Atlanta’s second unit dominated the game with 55 combined points, Golden State’s bench only tallied 19 points.

Along with trouble slowing down the Hawks’ bench, the Warriors couldn’t stop committing fouls. Golden State notched 26 personal fouls, sending Atlanta to the free-throw line 45 times. The Hawks shot 35-of-45 from the charity stripe while the Warriors only went to the line 21 times for 15 points.

Steph Curry registered a game-high 37 points on 12-of-23 shooting from the floor with five boards, two steal and two assists in 37 minutes. However, it wasn’t enough to end Golden State’s three-game road swing with a victory. Following a 117-111 loss to the Hawks, the Warriors will have a long flight back to the Bay Area before meeting Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks at Chase Center on Tuesday night.

Turnover City

While Curry led the Warriors with another 30 point performance, the seven-time All-Star struggled with protecting the ball. Curry was responsible for eight of Golden State’s 16 turnovers against Atlanta. The Hawks tallied 15 points off the Warriors’ turning the ball over.

Double-doubles

In his return from a one-game absence due to a finger injury, Green notched a double-double effort with 11 points and 11 assists in 36 minutes. The former Defensive Player of the Year added seven boards and four steals against the Hawks. Green finished the contest with a team-high +9 on the evening.

Kelly Oubre Jr. tacked on a double-double of his own with 20 points and eight rebounds in 37 minutes. The Kansas product added three blocks, two assists and two steals for Golden State.

Highlight of the night

Although the Warriors couldn’t record a victory, Curry added another highlight-reel moment to his 2021 resume. In the first half, the two-time Most Valuable Player showed off his handles while weaving through Atlanta’s defense for a gritty layup.

3 things to know: Warriors slide continues with rough loss to Hawks, 124-108

With no answer for John Collins, the Golden State Warriors dropped their fourth consecutive contest with a loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.

After dropping an ugly loss to the Sacramento Kings, the Golden State Warriors couldn’t stop their losing slide on the backend of a back-to-back against the Atlanta Hawks.

Without Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors in scoring with 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. However, it wasn’t enough to slow down John Collins.

The Atlanta forward notched a new-career scoring high performance with 38 point son 14-of-19 shooting from the field with 12 rebounds, two assists and a steal. Behind Collins, the Hawks coasted past the Warriors at Chase Center, 124-108.

Following Friday’s loss to the Hawks, the Warriors are riding a four-game losing streak. The Warriors will get two days off before meeting the Chicago Bulls at Chase Center on Monday night.

Draymond Green’s doesn’t let it fly

While Draymond Green is only averaging 6.0 points on 5.6 field goal attempts per contest, the Golden State forward was especially quiet on offense against the Hawks.

Green finished the contest scoreless on zero attempts from the field and from the free-throw line in 27 minutes. Green’s scoreless night against the Hawks was the second time this season he recorded zero points. Green went 0-for-3 from the field in 17 minutes against the Trail Blazers on Jan. 1.

Although Green didn’t register a shot attempt, the former Defensive Player of the Year added nine assists and two rebounds.

James Wiseman bounces back

On Thursday night in Sacramento, James Wiseman struggled with some rookie hiccups. The 2020 second overall pick tallied only six points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field with five turnovers and four personal fouls in 29 minutes against the Kings.

In the second leg of Golden State’s back-to-back, Wiseman showed some improvement. Wiseman was involved on offense, scoring 18 points — his highest-scoring since Jan. 27. The Memphis product also protected the ball better, recording only one turnover in 27 minutes against the Hawks.

Defensive struggles

While Collins scored a game-high 38 points, the Hawks’ offensive attack got whatever they wanted against the Warriors on Friday night. Three different members of the Hawks recorded double-double performances, with five different players scoring in double figures.

Along with Collins’ 38 points and 12 rebounds, Trae Young notched a double-double with 21 points and 15 assists while Clint Capela dominated the glass, registering 18 points and 15 boards in 36 minutes.
